Host T.J. Lavin has presented the reality competition series since its 11th season, The Gauntlet, in 2005. Og Mark Long, who began appearing in the second season and won twice before the Las Vegas native became the host, has seen several people attempt the job, including skier Jonny Moseley, the late BMX rider Dave Mirra, and himself alongside Real World star Eric Nies.
However, when T.J. entered the picture, Mark called him a “breath of fresh air” because it seemed like the reality TV host cared in a February 2023 interview with the Challenge Mania podcast.

In a recently-revealed clip from The Challenge: Untold History, viewers can take a trip down memory lane with some of the Og cast members who were part of the show’s early evolution.
Initially, MTV’s The Challenge didn’t involve the extra-fancy production, an extensive cast of reality TV stars, or even a big money prize, as competitors roughed it in an Rv.
Those early years brought Real World and Road Rules together to see which cast might win bragging rights for various missions, among other random prizes they received. Money was on the line at times, but never near the amounts competitors battle for today.
The show’s earliest cast members included legends like The Godfather Mark Long, Darrell Taylor, Jon Brennan, Theo von Kurnatowski, and Veronica Portillo.

This week’s “Saturday Night Live” brought back a past host in “Ambulance” star Jake Gyllenhaal. Having hosted “SNL” 15 years ago, while Gyllenhaal wasn’t able to slot himself into this season’s first-timer narrative — though, just to be clear, if Maggie were to host, she would be a first-time — he was able to give a strong return performance.
Host: Jake Gyllenhaal
As mentioned, Gyllenhaal last hosted “SNL” 15 years ago — in 2007, when he made his debut. A quick rundown of the episode truly captured how dated this “topical” live sketch comedy show can be in the blink of the eye — as has always been the case, not just something that has become apparent in recent years. The monologue wasn’t funny, as it was pretty devoid of jokes, and the jokes that were there didn’t quite hit due to Gyllenhaal’s pacing.

If you think that Andy Cohen — the executive producer of Bravo’s many “Real Housewives” shows and the host of the network’s late-night talk show “Watch What Happens Live” — has seen it all over his years in television, think again. In the second episode of his E! docu-series, “For Real: The Story of Reality TV,” Cohen, the program’s host and executive producer, is moved to tears at the sight of four of the cast members of the original “Real World.” Wiping his eyes as Julie Gentry, Heather B. Gardner, Norman Korpi and Eric Nies greet one another, a choked-up Cohen tells them, “It’s beautiful to see you all together.”
Cohen’s tears surprised him, he tells Variety: “I had been excited about it, but I never expected to start crying.”

When The Real World debuted in 1992, it was considered a ground breaking show. At the time, reality TV was still a new concept and the idea of a bunch of strangers living together in a house seemed crazy. The show quickly appeared to be a hit, however, and it has gone on to be considered one of the most influential reality series of all-time. When Eric Nies signed up to be a cast member on the show’s first season, he had absolutely no idea what to expect. To his surprise, the experience turned out to be life changing in

The first half of the premiere episode of Paramount+’s highly anticipated “The Real World” reunion was dedicated to the original cast members reuniting for the first time in nearly 30 years, a largely cheerful segment punctuated by the refrain, “Where’s Eric?”
Turns out that Eric Nies, one of the first season’s biggest stars, wasn’t able to move into the New York City loft with the other cast members because he tested positive for Covid-19. Instead, Nies had to isolate in a separate New York hotel and call in via video chat.
“When Eric popped on the monitor, I knew,” his castmate Andre Comeau said in the episode. “These are the times of Covid, so yeah, I added two plus two pretty quickly.”
Fans likely had the same reaction after the news that Eric wasn’t able to participate in the reunion in person was first reported by the New York Times.

Seven years ago, Rolling Stone interviewed Real World co-creator Jonathan Murray about the newest season of the groundbreaking MTV reality show. At the end, we ran an idea past him: “[Thinking] back to that original cast in New York, it would be nice to see something with them again. Maybe put them all back into a loft for a week.”
He was a little skeptical. “I don’t know doing it that way is best, and I’m not sure they’d be willing to do it,” he said at the time.

Paramount+’s upcoming “Real World” reunion series will bring the entire original cast to the same New York City loft they shared in 1992 — with one major exception.
Eric Nies, one of the MTV reality show’s seven original stars, was forced to stay in a hotel room apart from the other housemates and video call in for the duration of filming, he told the The New York Times. Nies said he couldn’t explain why he wasn’t able to live with the rest of the cast, saying only that it was “definitely not by my choice.”
The six other original cast members — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi and Kevin Powell — were all reunited in person at the SoHo loft where their original season was set.

MTV is reuniting the original cast of “The Real World: New York” for a revival series on the streaming service Paramount+, the company announced Friday.
Titled “The Real World Homecoming: New York,” the series will bring the original seven strangers — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell — back to the New York City loft they shared back in 1992. MTV has recently started teasing the reunion with clips from the original show on its social media pages.
“Homecoming” is the start of a broader revival of the iconic reality TV franchise planned for the soon-to-be-rebranded streaming service. It will mark the show’s first return since 2019’s “Real World: Atlanta,” which was produced by MTV’s studio arm and aired on Facebook Watch.
The cast will revisit memorable moments from the groundbreaking reality series’ first season and discuss how the show transformed their lives.

The Challenge has changed a lot throughout the years.
But one former cast member is looking for MTV to throw it all the way back.
Mark Long, who has appeared in the first Road Rules, as well as some of the earlier seasons of The Challenge, wants MTV to produce a season featuring original stars.
Long won the show two times and has a lot of fans.
After seemingly exiting the franchise in 2012, he has a pitch for a special season that would film a season in the U.S. across two weeks.
Currently, seasons film across two to three months and typically take the challengers to other parts of the world, something that might be difficult for some of the veteran cast members.
With families and careers, leaving everything behind for over two months is not something that everyone can agree to.
“How bout an All Old School #2week Challenge instead?...

In the tradition and style of IFC’s sublime “Documentary Now!” parody series, the bizarre allure of “Sherman’s Showcase” is that it’s a spoof that takes itself seriously. The IFC series from Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin is sneering in tone, wringing out the absurdities to be found in classic shows like “Soul Train” and “Solid Gold,” even as it goes to great lengths to imitate their style. Satirizing a format the creators clearly love, the series is so obviously a passion project – a fanboy costume party that celebrates a legendary, even if fictional, TV program’s history.
A variety show in the purest sense of the word, “Sherman’s Showcase” is structured as a series of infomercials – running from a few seconds to several minutes in length – for a 23-disc DVD compilation of a 40-year-old music variety show, hosted by Salahuddin’s egotistical and maybe even slightly shady Sherman McDaniel.
