Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood will reflect on the band’s history with How To Disappear – A Portrait of Radiohead, out Oct. 15.
The announcement arrives two months after Greenwood joined Instagram, where his first few posts featured his dogs and a pencil sharpener. In the announcement of How to Disappear, Greenwood included a portrait of Thom Yorke in his “Lotus Flower” hat — which the frontman auctioned off for charity in 2020 — as well as photos of his brother and bandmate Jonny Greenwood, drummer Phil Selway, and guitarist Ed O’Brien.

Robyn, Fever Ray, and First Aid Kit are among more than 1,000 Swedish artists who have called for Israel to be banned from the Eurovision 2024 song contest.
The musicians signed an open letter calling for Israel’s ban from the 2024 competition, which is currently scheduled to host its finale in Malmö, Sweden on May 11th. In addition to Robyn, First Aid Kit, and Fever Ray, other signatures came from fellow Swedish artists, dancers, producers, and songwriters, including Axel Boman, Refused, Viagra Boys, DJ Seinfeld, and Kite.
Addressing the European Broadcast Union (Ebu), the letter outlines the collective artists’ frustration with the decision to let Israel compete in light of the ongoing war in Gaza. “The fact that countries that place themselves above humanitarian law are welcomed to participate in international cultural events trivializes violations of international law and makes the suffering of the victims invisible,” the letter reads.

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has given fans an update on his next solo album in a message that also calls for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.
In an Instagram post, O’Brien thanked his “little community” of fans and explained that he had needed a break. “I’m deep into my next record, and deep in the process,” he wrote. “I will share some more soon … from music to influences to gear .. all of it… it’s been and continues to be a journey..Sending love and warmth from me and Ziggy.”
Earlier in the message, O’Brien apologized for not commenting on the heightened Gaza conflict earlier. “Like so many of you I have found the events of October 7 and what has followed too awful for words .. anything that I have tried to write feels so utterly inadequate,” he said. “Ceasefire now. Return the hostages.

Washington, Apr 6: People believe they'll be happy in the future, even when they imagine the many bad things that could happen, because they discount the possibility that those bad things will actually occur, a new study suggests.
"I've always been fascinated by the changeability of people's perceptions of happiness," psychological scientist Ed O'Brien of the University of Michigan said.
"On some days our futures seem bright and exciting, but on other days the same exact future event can feel stressful and terrifying," he said.
With this new research, O'Brien wanted to explore whether fluency - how easy or difficult it feels to think about different events - might play a role in how people think about well-being.

Washington, Jan ary 31: Women in their 50s are more empathic than men of the same age and than younger or older people, according to a new study of more than 75,000 adults.
"Overall, late middle-aged adults were higher in both of the aspects of empathy that we measured," says Sara Konrath.
"They reported that they were more likely to react emotionally to the experiences of others, and they were also more likely to try to understand how things looked from the perspective of others."
For the study, researchers Ed O'Brien, Konrath and Linda Hagen at the University of Michigan and Daniel Gruhn at North Carolina State University analyzed data on empathy from three separate large samples of American adults, two of which.

In 2004, three bad brothers you know so well handed out 50 camcorders to fans at a sold out Beastie Boys concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Ad-Rock, McA, and Mike D told those fans to fight for their right for good camera angles and to keep the cameras rolling at all times. Two years later, the footage captured from the show was cut together and released as the concert film Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That! to mild critical acclaim. This week, a Radiohead concert film dropped on YouTube that was kind of sorta conceived in the same way. The major difference is Radiohead Roseland Ballroom NYC 2011-09-29 Full Show multi-cam Sbd audio came to be not from top-down instruction, but bottom-up organization and a fan culture reminiscent of Deadhead tape traders. Finally! A time-lapse video that we can really get behind. Directed by Matt Ornstein -- and set to the tune of Radiohead's "The Daily Mail" -- this time-lapse was shot during Bonnaroo this year and features footage from the Tennessee music festival, leading up to the band's headlining live performance.
"The Daily Mail" was released as a digital download from Radiohead's King Of Limbs: Live From the Basement live video collection. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien revealed that the single had been in the works for "at least six years." However, when Radiohead decided to perform the song during their From the Basement set, the final arrangement "came together within a week."

What happens when you wrangle some of the finest, most critically acclaimed musicians today, fly them to New Zealand and get them to collaborate on an album and live concert? Well, you'll find out in the music documentary "The Sun Came Out," a look behind the curtain at a pretty phenomenal undertaking all done in the name of charity.
In 2001 Neil Finn, lead singer and founder of Crowded House, gathered folks like Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien from Radiohead, Sebastian Steinberg of Soul Coughing and Lisa Germano, and they staged three successful charity concerts under the moniker 7 Worlds Collide. Seven years later at Piha on the wild west coast of Auckland, Neil did it again, this time inviting Wilco and KT Tunstall to the line-up, and in addition to three concerts, they recorded a double album of new songs in just three weeks.

-- Adele is the rare star that doesn't need multiple magazine covers, a cosmetics contract or a clothing line to sell albums. She does it all based on the strength of that sumptuous voice and those stirring songs.
That's a rarity in today's pop world, where artists are overexposed and their music often comes second to what they're promoting in tandem with it.
Adele scored an unlikely critical and commercial triumph with "21," last year's best-selling album, all based off the artistry of songs like "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You." And she'll be richly rewarded come Sunday, when the Grammys hand out their trophies at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While Kanye West is the lead nominee with seven, Adele, who's up for six, will be the act who dominates – well, at least that's what We think.

London, Jan 26: Moviegoers may have felt 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2' was more magical than the previous parts because it was the last in the series, according to researchers.
University of Michigan researchers say people often view the 'last' moments of an event positively simply because they signal the end of an experience.
They found that even if the experience is painful or negative, but concludes on a pleasant note, people would consider the event a more positive experience.
"Endings are powerful," the Daily Mail quoted Ed O'Brien, a graduate student in the U-m Department of Psychology, as saying.

The moment you've waited three years for has finally arrived. Radiohead announced their first extensive U.S. tour since 2008's In Rainbows tour via their website Monday, with 10 dates running through March, and more to come.
The tour -- the first for their latest album, The King of Limbs -- will begin on Feb. 27 in Miami, Fl, with dates running through March 15 in Glendale, Az. It will wind from Florida to Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Colorado and Arizona. Other Lives, an indie band from Oklahoma, described as "dynamic, orchestral pop," will support the band on these dates.
Back in October, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien told BBC 6Music that they'll be on tour for the majority of 2012: "We'll be on the road from the end of February to November and we’ll be playing in both the UK and Us, the usual ports of call."

Radiohead have revealed that they plan to play indoor venues during their world tour next year. The band have confirmed plans to perform a string of concerts across the globe next year to promote their recent album The King of Limbs. However, guitarist Ed O'Brien has promised fans that the group aim to perform the European leg of the tour at indoor venues. Talking about initial ideas for the shows, O'Brien told BBC 6Music: "I think the important thing is that it's got to be a set in itself, it's got to work. "Last time we went out, it felt very much like In Rainbows plus the greatest hits. And it's not going to be like that this time. We reported over the weekend that Radiohead wanted in on the Record Store Day action at the last minute. And today, we reap the benefits of the gesture. "The Butcher" and "Supercollider" can be heard in full, streaming, below. According to guitarist Ed O'Brien, both were recorded during the "King of Limbs" sessions, though the latter was finished only after the album was done. "Supercollider" is a pretty, easy-to-listen track, with Thom Yorke's yawp evened out with a dance-floor synth pounding on-beat throughout. British rockers Radiohead have denied rumors they are releasing a second album of material from "The King of Limbs" recording sessions, insisting they plan to "start afresh" with new songs. The band unveiled its eighth studio album in February and hopeful fans were quick to speculate that the "Creep" hitmakers had an imminent follow-up waiting to hit shelves.
The rumors were fueled after two new tracks, "Supercollider" and "The Butcher", leaked online. But guitarist Ed O'Brien insists those songs are actually part of a special vinyl Ep they created to mark Britain's Record Store Day on Saturday, April 16, when fans are encouraged to go out and buy music from independent shops.
O'Brien admits devotees will have to wait a while before hearing new music from the band - because there are no other tracks ready for release. He tells the BBC, "The Butcher is from the King Of Limbs sessions.

Never underestimate the generosity/self-confidence of Radiohead. Just four days after announcing the Feb. 19 release of their new album, "The King of Limbs," the band put the album out there 24 hours early, complete with a video for lead single "Lotus Flower."

Though pre-orders are now obviously over, you can purchase the MP3 album for $9 and $14 for Wav files.

Band releases their darkly atmospheric eighth studio album Friday, a day ahead of schedule.

Radiohead's last album, 2007's In Rainbows, was a very major affair. From its pay-as-you-wish, set-the-industry-ablaze rush release to its scattershot sonics — all clicky drum tracks and doomy guitars and keening electronics — it was exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from arguably the best (and certainly the most mercurial) band on the planet. It was an event.
Their new album, The King of Limbs, which was announced Monday and then showed up unexpectedly in fans' in-boxes on Friday (February 18) morning — one day ahead of schedule — is, by comparison, a decidedly minor effort. It was not preceded by a single "Death of the Music Industry" think piece, instead, it just sort of came out early, for reasons that, at the time of this writing, have yet to really be explained.

The band is dubbing the latter release a "Newspaper Album" that will contain a CD, two 10-inch vinyl records and artwork sheets. According to the webpage, the package will...

British rockers Radiohead have backtracked over their decision not to release a new album this year - guitarist Ed O'Brien has confirmed the band is recording new music. Earlier this year online gossips claimed the Grammy winners were putting the finishing touches to a new release called "Tehrangeles", a follow up to their 2007 album "In Rainbows".
But the band insisted the gossip was false and there would be no new music in 2010. In a statement released to NME.com, the group insisted: "Most of it is made up and there is no album or album title." But O'Brien has revealed plans for a 2010 release are in fact in the works - and could be released in "a matter of weeks".
He tells BBC 6Music show: "We're in the heart of the record. It's genuinely exciting. It's very different from what we did last time. It's really nice to be doing this.

Ed O'Brien has confirmed that the recording of Radiohead's eighth studio album has nearly been completed. The guitarist told BBC 6 Music that work on the follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows was almost finished and that the group had worked in a "different spirit" to that album, one whose three-year recording was "the end of Radiohead Mark II". O'Brien said: "It's genuinely exciting, it's very different to what we did last time. It's just really nice to be doing this. Even though Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke recently declared that the entire record industry would collapse within a matter of months, that hasn't stopped his band from taking care of its own business. Guitarist Ed O'Brien told BBC 6 Music show host Adam Buxton that the follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows is nearly complete. "We're at the finishing line," he said. The rumors were fueled by guitarist Ed O'Brien, who recently told fans, "I am so genuinely excited about what we're doing, but for obvious reasons I can't divulge anything more. Anyway, we all love surprises don't we?" But the band insists the gossip is all a hoax and there'll be no new music in 2010. Manic Street Preachers' rocker Nicky Wire has fueled a war of words with Radiohead's Ed O'Brien - he launched a furious tirade against the guitarist during a gig on Thursday, February 18. The bass player was seething after O'Brien branded him a "w**ker" for accusing the "Paranoid Android" hitmakers of taking a stand against illegal downloaders only after they had made their fortune in the music industry.
Wire hit back at the Radiohead's star during a show in Glasgow, Scotland on Thursday, branding O'Brien a "c**t" and mocking his education at an upmarket school. He told the audience, "Apparently Ed O'Brien called me a w**ker. I'm really f**king scared. Go back to your boarding school you c**t!"

Radiohead star Ed O'Brien is adamant the internet is not "killing" the music industry - because fans who illegally download albums still spend cash on merchandise and concert tickets. The guitarist, a member of the Featured Artists Coalition (Fac), has waded into a debate over the British government's proposal to launch a crackdown on internet service providers who refuse to ban illegal file-sharing.
He insists the record industry will not collapse as a result of online trading - but bosses need to offer cheaper music in order to survive. O'Brien says, "I have a problem when people in the industry say it's killing the industry, it's the thing that's ripping us apart. I don't actually believe it is... (Pirates) might not buy an album, but they're spending their money buying concert tickets, a t-shirt, whatever."
"It's an analogue business model in a digital era. The business model has to change.

British rockers Radiohead nearly parted ways during the recording of their hit 2007 album "In Rainbows" - because the lengthy studio sessions dragged on for several years. The band began working on tracks for the groundbreaking record in 2005 before it was eventually released online using a 'pay-what-you-like' system in late 2007.
And guitarist Ed O'Brien admits the album process was so long and tedious, they weren't sure whether they would continue as a group. He tells Midem, "The recording of the album took three years. Which is a long time by anybody's standards. It pretty much half killed us. Whether the band would continue was very much in the balance."
But the musician is convinced the decision to release the album using such an unconventional sales technique saved them from a split. He adds, "It was empowering. You can't put it into a balance sheet, this feeling of empowerment. It completely rejuvenated us as a band.

Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien has declared that the music industry needs to radically change in order to seriously compete with illegal filesharing. O'Brien has previously been a vocal critic of government plans to disconnect internet users who are found to be filesharing illegally. He has now said that the record industry is faltering because it has failed to change with the times. Speaking with Midem ahead of its 2010 music conference, O'Brien said: "I have a problem when people in the industry say 'it’s killing the industry, it's the thing that’s ripping us apart'. Editors frontman Tom Smith has reportedly said that he believes Radiohead's decision to release 2007 album In Rainbows as a pay-what-you-like download was "selfish". Smith also claimed that the scheme was in direct conflict with guitarist Ed O'Brien's current stance on downloading. O'Brien, a member of the Featured Artists Coalition, has previously spoken out against file-sharing, calling for a 'three strikes' rule for offenders before their connections would be restricted. Smith told BBC 6Music that he believed O'Brien's view was contradicted by the In Rainbows release. "It's a weird thing to say (more)...

Pick Of The Week. 7 Worlds Collide -- The Sun Came Out The brainstorm of singer-songwriter and New Zealand pop legend Neil Finn, 7 Worlds Collide first came about in 2002, when Finn and a stellar group of musicians that included Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien & Phil Selway of Radiohead, and Neil's brother, Split Enz founder Tim Finn, put on a series of concerts to benefit the international medical humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres. This time, sans Eddie Vedder, but including Wilco, the concerts happened again, as well as this 2 CD studio LP, that is just remarkable from top to bottom. This year the benficiary of all proceeds will go to Oxfam, which you could read all about here and the full roster of musicians can be found here.
