Discovery Networks has shifted its programming chief in the United Kingdom to the top post at domestic channel TLC. David Abraham will replace Roger Marmet, who resigned last month amid a mass layoff at the company (HR 1/28). TLC has been in a ratings tailspin with the fade of signature hit Trading Spaces, which recently lost host Paige Davis. "David possesses a formidable arsenal of creative skills and business acumen that make him the ideal choice to take the TLC brand in exciting new directions," Discovery Networks president Billy Campbell said. Abraham had been general manager of Discovery's nine British channels since 2001. Before joining Discovery, Abraham was a leading figure in the British advertising industry as chief operating officer of Chiat/Day London and co-founding iconoclastic agency St. Luke's. Robin Paxton, executive vp and managing director of Discovery Networks Europe, will commence a search immediately for a general manager for the U.K. business.
