Musk, Alex Gibney’s doc about the tech giant Elon Musk, has landed at HBO Documentary Films in North America.
Musk has been described as a “definitive and unvarnished examination” of the controversial and headline-making CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter. (When the doc was first announced, in characteristic fashion, Musk made a comment on Twitter, writing, “It’s a hit piece.”) Gibney, who earned an Oscar for the 2008 film Taxi to the Dark Side, is no stranger to controversial figures, having produced docs on Scientology, Wikileaks and Enron.
Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions produced the film alongside Closer Media, Anonymous Content and Double Agent, which is also financed the project.
HBO and Gibney have a long working relationship, which includes films about the opioid crisis The Crime of the Century, Elisabeth Homes doc The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

Netflix’s upcoming documentary “Money Shot” tells the story of one of the world’s most-visited websites — Pornhub.
Featuring interviews with sex workers, activists and ex-employees of the porn giant, the film, premiering March 15, “offers a deep dive into the successes and scandals of Pornhub,” per Netflix.
More specifically, “Money Shot” chronicles how Pornhub fundamentally changed adult entertainment, allowing erotic content to reach a massive audience and turning pornography into a multi-billion dollar industry. The doc explores the allegations of non-consensual material and trafficking on the site, and Pornhub’s subsequent crackdown on its own content.
“Knowingly profiting from sex trafficking is what we believe they are liable for,” says one interview subject in the trailer. Adds another subject: “The more I explored, the more aghast I became. I found too many cases of kids whose worst moments were preserved in amber.”

Netflix is gearing up to release a documentary film about Pornhub, the controversial sex video platform that features user-uploaded content.
“Money Shot: The Pornhub Story” will debut on Netflix worldwide on March 15, 2023. The documentary, from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, looks at the history of the internet’s most famous adult entertainment platform and the recent backlash against the site.
Pornhub changed how pornography is produced and distributed, enabling adult content creators to reach “a massive audience while the company made billions of dollars — but it also became embroiled in allegations including non-consensual material and trafficking on the site,” according to Netflix’s description of the film. “As anti-trafficking organizations seek justice for victims, can the online giant protect those from whom they profit, or is this a new wave of censorship for adult performers making consensual porn?”

A new documentary series from HBO will pull back the curtain on La Luz del Mundo, a secretive and nontraditional Christian denomination, and the sexual abuse that several members, many of them minors, say they have suffered at the hands of its successive leaders.
Titled “Unveiled: Surviving La Luz Del Mundo,” the HBO Original production will unfold in three parts. It was directed by award-winning filmmaker Jennifer Tiexiera, the director of “P.S. Burn This Letter Please,” and produced by Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions in association with Law & Crime Productions.
In an interview with Variety, Tiexiera said she hoped to draw attention to a story that was not given much coverage by the media despite the global reach of the church. La Luz del Mundo (Lldm) claims to have congregations in over 50 countries and over five million followers, but it is an institution that is also cloaked in secrecy.

There’s another plus in town – Epix is being rebranded as MGM+.
The cable network and streaming service is getting a new name and identity as well as a handful of new titles, as part of a relaunch set for January 2023.
MGM+ joins the likes of Disney+, Discovery+, Paramount+, ESPN+ and BET+ with the use of the symbol.
It comes five years after the vaunted Hollywood studio completed its acquisition of Viacom and Lionsgate’s stake in the business, giving it full control of the network, and five months after Amazon completed its own acquisition of MGM.
As part of the rebrand, the network, which will continue to be available in the U.S. on Prime Video, cable, telco, satellite, has handed out a number of greenlights.
Hotel Cocaine, which comes from Narcos’ Chris Brancato, has been handed an eight-episode order and Julian Fellowes’ British period drama Belgravia has been given a follow-up series.

AppleTV+ has launched a non-fiction podcast series about a controversial war crimes story ahead of the premiere of a doc series.
The streamer is launching The Line, which tells the story of U.S. Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher who was charged with committing war crimes, before ultimately being acquitted on all but one count—for posing in a photo with a corpse.
The six-part audio series is hosted by Dan Taberski, host of the Missing Richard Simmons podcast. Its first two episodes launched today, April 6.
It will be followed by a four-part doc series premiering later this fall.

Apple TV Plus announced “The Line,” its first combination podcast-tv original — a bid to exploit the tech giant’s podcast footprint to seed signups for its TV subscription service.
“The Line,” from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, comprises two non-fiction series: a six-part narrative non-fiction audio series that debuted Monday (April 6) on Apple Podcasts and a four-part limited documentary series premiering this fall on Apple TV Plus.
The pair of original series promises to reveal “previously untold aspects” about the story of former Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher, who in 2018 was charged with committing war crimes after he had posed for a photo with a corpse in Iraq. Members of his platoon had broken ranks and accused Gallagher of murder; he was ultimately being acquitted on all but one minor count and in the fall of 2019 was pardoned by President Trump.

The second half of HBO’s Tiger Woods documentary drew 874,000 total viewers on Sunday night, charting significant growth over Part 1.
Part 2 of “Tiger,” which notably featured Rachel Uchitel’s first-ever sit-down interview about her relationship with Woods, grew 37% over Part 1, which scored 639,000 viewers the day of its premiere last week.
The second installment covered Woods’ downfall in the wake of multiple injuries, the infamous 2009 affair scandal that tarnished his public image and the 2017 DUI arrest that many saw as a death knell for the golfer’s career. It also covered Woods’ comeback victory at the 2019 Masters Tournament.
“Tiger” currently stands as the most-watched HBO Sports doc since Bill Simmons’ “Andre the Giant” walked through the curtain back in April 2018. A spokesperson for HBO said last week that there have been “about 15” HBO Sports titles in the genre between the two docs.
“Tiger” hails from HBO Sports and Jigsaw Productions in association with Our Time Projects.

Hollywood loves character-driven stories with a meteoric rise, a dramatic fall and the ultimate redemption. Tinsel Town is going to love HBO’s Tiger Woods documentary, and so will viewers — and it’s only going to take two minutes to hook you.
“Tiger,” from directors Matthew Heineman and Matt Hamachek, has an excellent opening scene. The cold open combines never-before-seen footage from Eldrick “Tiger” Woods’ dad, Earl, speaking glowingly about his boy at the Haskins Collegiate Awards Banquet with a childhood Tiger making sure “daddy” just saw his brilliant iron shot from the fairway. Earl’s audio continues over a signature Woods win at The Masters, and then ultimately, laid on top of police-station footage from Tiger’s 2017 DUI arrest.
Yeah, it’s been a wild 45 years.
Heineman and Hamachek told TheWrap they first read about Earl Woods’ proud-papa Haskins speech in Gary Smith’s 1996 Sports Illustrated article, “The Chosen One.
