Durham, England, Aug 31 (Ians) Young cricketer Harry Brook did his chances of a late call-up to England’s squad for this year’s Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup squad no harm with a stunning knock against New Zealand in the opening match of their T20I series at Chester-le-Street, here.
Brook was a glaring omission from the preliminary World Cup squad that England named earlier this month and the 24-year-old has reacted well since the news with a string of excellent scores, reports Icc.
The right-hander smashed a century in his last match in England’s domestic T20 competition last week and followed that up with an eye-catching 43* from just 27 deliveries against the Kiwis to help his side clinch a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
England captain Jos Buttler indicated earlier this month that Brook was still an outside chance of earning a place in the final World Cup squad that...

Auckland, July 19 (Ians) Uncapped players batting all-rounder Dean Foxcroft and leg-spinner Adi Ashok on Wednesday earned their maiden New Zealand call-ups while pace all-rounder Kyle Jamieson made his comeback to the side for next month’s T20 tours of the UAE and England.
New Zealand are scheduled to play three T20Is against the UAE on August 17, 19 and 20, followed by four games in England from August 30 to September 5.
Jamieson is set to return to international cricket more than a year after sustaining a serious back injury in England last June. On the other hand, Foxcroft and Ashok earned their call-ups off the back of representing New Zealand A and impressive domestic form in the recent season.
Foxcroft, born in South Africa, moved to New Zealand in 2016 and is a newly qualified player for the side, having recently received eligibility approval from the Icc under its “exceptional circumstances” criteria.

The pitch for Sunday’s match is the one used in Friday’s game, where Rajasthan were handed a nine-wicket thrashing by defending champions Gujarat Titans. New Delhi, Jan 22 (Ians) Former Pakistan Cricket Board (Pcb) chairman Ramiz Raja showered rich praise on India opener Shubman Gill for his performances in ODIs this year, saying he has got enough potential to succeed and even compared to his opening partner, India captain Rohit Sharma.
“Shubman Gill looks like a mini-Rohit Sharma. He has extra time and looks good. He has enough potential. Aggression will also develop with time. He doesn’t need to change anything. He scored a double hundred recently,” said Raja in a video on his Youtube channel.
Gill was unbeaten on 40 in India’s successful chase of 109 against New Zealand at Raipur, while Rohit top-scored with an eye-catchy 51. “Batting was easy for India because they have an outstanding batter like Rohit Sharma. He plays exceedingly well. He is an amazing striker of hook-and-pull shots, so a 108-run chase becomes easy,” added Raja, a former Pakistan cricketer.

Raipur, Jan 21 (Ians) The Indian bowlers were accurate in their bowling, fetched good swing, turn, bounce, and took sharp return catches in an impressive show to bundle out New Zealand for just 108 in the second Odi at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
On a pitch with some amount of grass cover, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami found seam movement to run through the New Zealand top and middle-order, reducing them to 15/5 at one stage.
Though Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner played some defiant knocks, they were unable to bail their side out of trouble and the pressure was maintained by Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav.
Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first brought was rewarded immediately as Shami got one to nip back in and go past Finn Allen’s flick to crash into the stumps on the fifth ball of the innings.

Raipur, Jan 21 (Ians) India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the second Odi at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium on Saturday. India are currently leading the three-match series 1-0.
Rohit admitted he forgot what was actually decided to do on winning the toss and added that India are playing with the same eleven from the 12-run victory in Hyderabad.
“Just wanted to challenge ourselves under difficult conditions. Was a good test for us, knowing that the wicket will get better to bat on and that was the challenge in front of us. Bracewell batted well, but we bowled well in the end and won the game.”

Karachi, Jan 8 (Ians) New Zealand have called up pace-bowling all-rounder Doug Bracewell to replace the injured Matt Henry in their Odi squads for the upcoming 50-overs series against Pakistan and India.
Henry was ruled out of the tour with an abdominal strain, which he sustained on the final day of the second Test in Karachi, with the injury requiring two to four weeks of rest and rehabilitation.
Bracewell, who has 68 international caps to his name, most recently featured in the home Odi series against the Netherlands last April, the New Zealand Cricket informed in a media release on Sunday.
The 32-year-old has been in good form with bat and ball on the domestic scene for the Central Stags, starting the season as one of the leading wicket-takers in the Plunket Shield and more recently showed his ability with the bat, making key contributions for the Stags in the Super Smash.

Jamieson, who is returning from a back injury, was purchased in the 2021 auctions by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 15 crore — the highest bid for a New Zealand player and the fourth-highest in Ipl history. However, the 27-year-old had struggled to meet the price tag when playing just nine of Rcb’s 15 games.
The tall quick had opted out of the 2022 Ipl to spend more time with his family and be fresh for New Zealand duties as 24 Nz cricketers had put themselves up for auction and top guns like Kane Williamson,...

Napier, Nov 23 (Ians) After leading India to 1-0 victory in the T20I leg of the New Zealand tour, stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya believes that the efforts will be there to enjoy playing the game and without any fear in their road to building up for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup.
After India’s semi-final exit at the T20 World Cup in a 10-wicket loss to eventual champions England at the Adelaide Oval, their conservative approach in power-play came under severe criticism. With many tipping Hardik to be the next T20I captain of India, the bilateral series win against New Zealand has the chance to boost his leadership credentials for a full-time leadership role in the shortest format of the game.
“What I have tried to do is, if you have reached the international level, you have obviously done well and achieved success at the levels below. As a captain,...

Napier, Nov 22 (Ians) New Zealand skipper Tim Southee on Tuesday said the rain-affected third and final T20I against India which ended in a tie, would have been an interesting game and could have gone either way if both sides had batted for the whole overs.
After New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first, Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj (4/17) and Arshdeep Singh (4/37) produced sensational bowling performances and scalped four wickets each to bowl out the Black Caps for 160 despite fighting half-centuries by Devon Conway (59 off 49) and Glenn Phillips (54 off 33).
Chasing 161 to win, India were reeling at 21/3 in 2.5 overs but Hardik Pandya hit three boundaries and a six during his unbeaten knock and along with Deepak Hooda (9 not out off 9) took India to 75/4 in 9 overs when rain stopped play.
According to Dls, 76 would have been the winning score for India after 9 overs but they were 75, which was the par score.

Napier, Nov 22 (Ians) New Zealand captain Tim Southee won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the third and final T20I which was delayed due to rain at the McClean Park, here on Tuesday.
New Zealand made one change in the playing XI as Mark Chapman came in place of regular captain Kane Williamson, who is missing this game due to a pre-arranged medical appointment.
“We will bat. Looks like a pitch where we can put the runs on the board. We can’t really control the weather, but the history of this ground suggests good batting conditions. Our bowling the other night wasn’t the best, but credit to Sky. Mark Chapman comes in straightaway. You look back at places where we can improve as a team,” said Southee at the toss.

Adelaide, Nov 4 (Ians) Ireland left-arm pacer Josh Little’s hat-trick went in vain as New Zealand took a big step towards qualifying for the semifinals of Men’s T20 World Cup with a 35-run win in their last Group 1 match in Super 12s at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson played exquisite shots all across the park to make a solid 61 off 35 balls, shrugging off his lean run to get his first fifty of the tournament, and help his side reach a challenging 185/6.
But Little stole the thunder of it by dismissing him, Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner on the trot in the 19th over to record second hat-trick of the tournament as Ireland gave away only 12 runs in their last two overs.
The sensational hat-trick propelled Little to end with figures of 3/22 in his four overs. But Ireland could make only 150/9 in their 20 overs with...
