- A baby beauty contest winner by the age of three. She made her first appearance on film billed as Bernice Sawyer, the baby in "Broncho Billy and the Baby", for Essanay in 1915.
- After leaving Hollywood, after leaving Hollywood she appeared on Broadway in Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's hit play "Once in a Lifetime" which ran for 406 performances (from September 1930). She eventually joined the New York glamour set and became the toast of leading gossip columnists, including Walter Winchell.
