Grace Covington (Scout Taylor-Compton) wants nothing more than to find her birth parents. We’re told her former foster child has been looking for quite some time, perhaps helped in part by her Princeton-graduate, Hamptons-vacationing jock of a boyfriend’s (Nolan Gerard Funk’s Jack) money. Well, she finally has a lead thanks to the owner (King Orba’s Frank) of an old plantation down in Charleston—apparently near where she was born. He’s invited her to come stay and hear what he knows to point her in the right direction. Jack agrees to accompany her despite seeming like the kind of guy who’s never gone below the Mason-Dixon line in his life, declaring his undying love before throwing her to the wolves that are his parents on the way down.
It’s the usual introduction for this type of film: urban comfort making way towards backwoods anxiety.

As The Long Night opens Grace and her boyfriend Jack are hanging out in their NYC apartment. She’s not a native New Yorker though, she’s from the South. Exactly where is a bit of a mystery, as she never knew her family. So when she gets a call from Frank saying he has a promising lead on her ancestry they drive down to see him. Thankfully he told her where he hides his spare key because when they arrive he’s nowhere to be found.
It doesn’t take long before they’re seeing strange altar-like things in the woods and strange figures in the distance. And snakes that seem to appear and disappear. Jack has the good sense to realize something is very wrong and decides they’re leaving,...

In director Rich Ragsdale’s The Long Night, Scout Taylor-Compton stars as a woman engaged to a rich city lad (Nolan Gerard Funk) and on the threshold of a much larger life than she could have imagined growing up in a Deep South orphanage. She’s long been trying to learn who her birth parents were, and as the film opens she gets her first solid lead, requiring the couple to drive to the investigator’s isolated house in the boonies. What could possibly go wrong?
Upon arrival, their host is missing but he’d left the key for them with permission to settle in. A few things start to feel a bit hinky, including the intrusion of a couple of large snakes. But once the sun sets, the real mayhem starts to kick in.

Going off the beaten path on vacation can be a picturesque experience, but it can be a perilous one as well. An American couple accidentally disturbs a deadly spirit in Thailand in the new horror film Ghost House, and with the supernatural thriller out now in select theaters from Vertical Entertainment and on DVD and VOD platforms from Lionsgate, Daily Dead caught up with director Rich Ragsdale to discuss filming in Thailand, the presence of ghosts on set, and working with Scout Taylor-Compton and James Landry Hébert.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Rich and Kevin! What attracted you guys to the story of Ghost House and made you want to tell this story on screen?

Holidaying in Bangkok, Thailand, a loved-up young American couple come a cropper when they befriend a pair of British guys at their hotel. Plied with booze and compliments, they’re driven out into the woodlands, and Julie (Taylor-Compton) is tricked into stealing a symbolic artefact from the titular ‘ghost house’. What happens in Bangkok stays in Bangkok, right? Well, cursed by a furious spirit, now Julie might never leave at all…
The Thai flavour gives what is otherwise a fairly conventional ghost story a little extra spice. While there are no major surprises in the setup, scares or narrative, Ghost House makes the most of its Bangkok setting, mining the old streets...

"This vacation is going to be so amazing!" Oh, if only they knew... Vertical Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for a horror thriller titled Ghost House, from filmmaker Rich Ragsdale. We haven't heard much about this, but it looks like your standard haunted house plus one super angry ghost movie, with the increasingly common horror trope of idiot white tourists in a foreign country making a fool of themselves and provoking evil spirits. Ghost House stars Scout Taylor-Compton, James Landry Hébert, Mark Boone Junior, Michael S. New, Elana Krausz, and Kevin Ragsdale. This definitely does look scary, although quite predictable, but maybe there's some solid thrills in it. Worth a watch if you're a horror fan. Here's the first official trailer (+ teaser poster) for Rich Ragsdale's Ghost House, direct from YouTube: A couple goes on an adventurous vacation to Thailand only to find themselves haunted by a malevolent...

In addition to preserving heart-stirring memories, cameras can capture some seriously creepy things (just ask Greg and his friends from R.L. Stine's Say Cheese and Die!), and in the new horror movie Ghost House, starring Scout Taylor-Compton, a woman discovers that she's the subject of her own lens in a chilling, exclusive clip that we've been provided with as a special treat for Daily Dead readers.
"A young American couple, lost in the Thai countryside, find themselves haunted by an evil spirit. Desperate for a solution, the couple spirals deeper into a surreal supernatural world leading them into a frenzied, terrifying confrontation with pure evil."
Directed by Rich Ragsdale from a screenplay by Kevin O’Sullivan and Jason Chase Tyrrell, Ghost House stars James Landry Hébert, Scout Taylor Compton, and Mark Boone Junior. Vertical Entertainment will release the film in theaters on August 25th. To learn more, visit the film's official Facebook page.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by the film's publicity arm. Tagline: "She Will Never Let You Go." Director: Rich Ragsdale. Writers: Kevin O'Sullivan, Jason Chase Tyrrell, Rich Ragsdale, Kevin Ragsdale. Cast: Scout Taylor-Compton, James Landry Hébert and Mark Boone Junior. Ghost House is a film from Thailand. Developed by director Rich Ragsdale and a group of writers, this indie horror film tackles the myth of the spirit house. Two travellers don't heed the local warnings. Then, a ghost haunts Jim (James Landry Hébert) and Julie (Scout Taylor-Compton), through most of the film. The film looks great. The filmmakers have really utilized the Thai settings and they are affective. There are other great visuals, though. The fiery ghost-witch also looks spectacular onscreen. Often associated with fire, this villain lights up the screen. Also, this viewer wondered if an older Christian myth, involving Adam and Eve, influenced the story.

Tagline: "She Will Never Let You Go." Ghost House is a supernatural thriller. Shot in Bangkok Thailand, Vertical Entertainment will release this feature, in theatres. The film was directed by long time composer Rich Ragsdale, from a script developed by Kevin O’Sullivan and Jason Chase Tyrrell. The story deals with a curse and a haunting spirit. Loosely based on Thai mythology, the curse must be passed to another - in order to escape a growing evil. Ghost House stars: James Landry Hébert (Looper, 2012), Scout Taylor Compton and Mark Boone Junior. A trailer for the film was released earlier this week (hosted below). And now, new stills are available and can be found here. The trailer is an interesting one. It shows a newly engaged couple on holiday. They meet up with another duo of travellers and they are taken to a graveyard. Here, it is obvious that the new friends have malicious intent.

Last week we revealed the first footage from Rich Ragsdale‘s supernatural horror Ghost House, which sends Halloween‘s Scout Taylor-Compton to Thailand for some frights. The trailer is pretty wild, carrying a J-horror vibe and boasting more than a handful of really cool scares. This should be a fun double feature next to Screen Media’s Temple. In Ghost House, a young couple goes on […]...
