NBA star Stephen Curry is often brought up in the conversation about GOATs — the greatest basketball players of all time.

Curry and his Unanimous Media co-founder Erick Peyton will produce the film alongside Academy Award nominee Michelle Raimo Kouyate, and Modern Magic’s Adam Rosenberg (“Creed 3”) and Academy Award winner Rodney Rothman (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”).
“With ‘Goat,’ we look forward to uplifting audiences with diverse characters and heartwarming storylines that will have you rooting for the underdog,” stated Peyton and Curry about the movie, which is aimed at families and sports fans alike.

Forget those new live-action "Spider-Man" movies — for my money, the best new Spidey-related material resides in the animated "Spider-Verse" films. They're bright, colorful, inventive, funny, and emotional movies (even if "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is only half a movie). Those films introduced us to Miles Morales, a teen who becomes Spider-Man in an alternate universe. While we're still waiting for the next full-length "Spider-Verse" film, "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse," we can get more of Miles via a new short film titled "The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story."
But this short film isn't your typical action-packed web-slinger story. It's instead a horror-tinged look at Miles' subconscious as he succumbs to the pressures of being Spider-Man. As our own Rafael Motamayor wrote in his review of the short film, "'The Spider Within' stands out by combining that theme with a love of horror and psychological thrillers, delivering a truly spooky short. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is wowing audiences everywhere and has already become a bigger box office success than its predecessor. The Miles Morales sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells a more epic story that cannot be contained in one film, which is why it ends on a cliffhanger and will be picking up with the follow-up, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, Sony had one other Spider-Verse story up its sleeve. A short from Sony Animation titled, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, has just premiered at the Annecy International Film Festival according to Deadline.

In signature Spider-Man characterization, Miles has to deal with the normal stress of being a teenager in today’s world prior to the added difficulties of being a superhero on top of that. Sony Pictures Animation has always been the red-headed stepchild of studio animation arms. They’ve had a few big hits, a few mid-sized hits, and they’ve done a very good job of squeezing every possible penny out of the direct-to-video market with sequels to some of their titles. In the press release they sent out today, Sony made it clear that they’re doubling down on animation. Kristine Belson is the president of Sony Animation, answering directly to Tom Rothman, and she talked about letting artists drive the films they’re planning to make. It’s a pretty safe list overall, with an emphasis on pre-existing properties, and I have a hard time getting my head around how anyone is even remotely artistically moved by the idea of an Emoji movie. Some of the titles had already been announced, but there are new details on those, and some of the announcements were brand-new.

Labelled as yet another example of 'the end of civilization' in some social media posts, it looks like Sony Pictures' proposed 'Emoji Movie' may have hit a snag. THR reports that Marco Husges, a former video game executive who lives in Germany, seems to have all the merchandise trademarks for emojis.
First created by mobile-phone operators in Japan in the late 1990s, Husges doesn't own the rights to the digital icons on phones and social media. However, as founder of The Emoji Co. he has created more than 3,000 of his own icons and trademarked and licensed them for use on an array of merchandise.
Husges claims to be surprised that Sony Pictures Animation announced "The Emoji Movie" dated for August 2017. Sony filed applications for dozens of trademarks in connection with its project in October, trademarks which have since been rejected.

Sony Pictures Animation has announced that Jimmy Miller’s Mosaic, and Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions will produce Manimal, a live-action/animated feature film that takes the concept of the cult television drama of the same title – a crime-fighter who can transform into animals – and reinvents it as an action-comedy.
Original series co-creator Glen A. Larson will also produce. The feature is being written by Jay Martel & Ian Roberts. The project, which will be a live-action hybrid heavy in visual effects and animation, is being overseen by Sony Pictures Animation President of Production Michelle Raimo Kouyate and Svp Michael Lachance.

Larson previously created several popular television series including Battlestar Galactica, Knight Rider and Magnum, P.I. The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. As far as...

Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

Pop quiz: What do Chris Rock, Claire Denis, Eddie Vedder and Josh Hutcherson all have in common? Answer: They could all be Oscar voters very soon. The annual Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences invitation list always makes for interesting reading, shedding light on just how large and far-reaching the group's membership is -- or could be, depending on who accepts their invitations. This year, 271 individuals have been asked to join AMPAS, meaning every one of them could contribute to next year's Academy Awards balloting -- and it's as diverse a list as they've ever assembled. Think the Academy consists entirely of fusty retired white dudes? Not if recent Best Original Song nominee Pharrell Williams takes them up on their offer. Think it's all just a Hollywood insiders' game? Not if French arthouse titans Chantal Akerman and Olivier Assayas join the party. It's a list that subverts expectation at every turn.

Sony Pictures Animation has acquired Todd Alcott and Holly Golden's original animated comedy feature pitch "Medusa". Emmy winner Lauren Faust ("My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic") is attached to direct.
Much like "Maleficent" gave us a new take on a Disney evil villainess, this film will offer an all-new origin story behind the infamous snake-headed Gorgon from the story of Perseus in Greek mythology. This animated tale however will offer a far more comedic take.
Sony Pictures Animation president of production Michelle Raimo Kouyate says:

And when Lauren Faust, a uniquely gifted animation filmmaker with a real talent for relating to audiences, connected with the project, we knew the combination of her vision and their story would create something extraordinary. Lauren Faust, best known for rebooting the popular My Little Pony franchise, has been hired by Sony Pictures Animation to helm their all new animated film, Medusa. The movie will be a new take on the classic Greek Mythology that will be more accessible for a younger audience (i.e. all the damnation and abuse from the Gods will probably be left out). Come inside to learn more about the upcoming film!
Honestly, I'm kind of interested in this new adaptation. Greek Mythology has always been interesting to me, and Hollywood is making bigger efforts to bring some of those stories to the big screen. A new version of Medusa could be a lot of fun, especially with this director behind it:

Sony Pictures Animation had some success in 2012 exploiting supernatural creatures for comedy with Hotel Transylvania. A sequel is already in the works, and the company has decided to stick with unusual leading characters, picking up a pitch focusing on the mythical Medusa and hiring My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic cartoon series creator Lauren Faust to direct it.Antz co-writer Todd Alcott and producer Holly Golden were behind the original comedy concept, which appears to be following the current trend for revisionist fantasy tales by exploring the genesis of the Greek monster. Our heroine will be a decent, beautiful young girl who annoys the wrong goddess. Turned into the snake-haired demon, she learns to embrace her differences."I love the originality of it, the comedy take on Medusa,” Michelle Raimo-Kouyate, president of production at Sony Animation, tells The Wrap. “The minute I heard it, it felt ingenious and clever and funny.

Revisionist fairy tales are all the rage in Hollywood right now, thanks to the success of films like Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Huntsman and now Maleficent. Hoping to capitalize on this recent trend, Sony Pictures Animation is throwing its hat in the ring with a comedic take on the classic Greek myth Medusa. Today, we learned that the studio has tapped My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic creator Lauren Faust to direct the project.
Antz writer Todd Alcott and producer Holly Golden pitched Medusa to Sony Pictures Animation as a comedy which reinterprets the myth of Medusa, a powerful creature with snakes for hair whose gaze turns people to stone. This time around, however, Medusa will be portrayed as a sweet and kind girl who accidentally angers a deity but, after being transformed into the fearsome creature, eventually learns to accept her new appearance and believe in herself.

Sunday 8 Am, 6th Update: A total of 4 major releases this weekend amounted to a soft domestic box office with total moviegoing slightly below last year’s. Sony Pictures Animation’s 3D sequel to its 2009 instant children’s classic, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2, managed to meet the studio’s lowball expectations of almost $35M, ahead of the first Cloudy‘s $30.3M opening even though sequel didn’t open in IMAX like that did. Result was the 4th biggest September opener of all time, but only a so-so toon result considering the big ones should manage $40+M debuts. The ‘A-’ CinemaScore, same as the original’s, helped word of mouth for the all-important Saturday kiddie bump which amounted to +63% over Friday since parents and their offspring lately have been underserved in the marketplace. Of course, it was also a massive release compared to the middling runs of the other newcomers this weekend.

Hasbro is teaming up with Sony Pictures to bring Tonka Trucks to the big screen! Tonka Trucks were pretty badass back in the day. I had one when I was a kid, and I beat the hell out of it. I don't know if you've seen any Tonka toys today, but they aren't as badass as they use to be. Sony will team up with Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions and adapt the brand into an animated feature film. They are also working on developing films for Hasbro’s Candy Land for Sony. The studio is also working on bringing Hasbro’s Risk to the big screen as well.
Since Universal Pictures bombed with Battleship, they've stopped working all of their Hasbro projects like Stretch Armstrong, Clue, Monopoly, and Magic, The Gathering. Maybe they should have made a better Battleship movie. It's not the brands fault; it's the studio's.
