P.R. Reid was born on November 13, 1910 in India. He was a writer and actor, known for Victory (1981), The Colditz Story (1955) and Colditz (1972). He was married to Nicandra Hood, Mary Stewart Cunliffe-Lister and Jane Cabot. He died on May 22, 1990 in Frenchay, Bristol, England, UK.
On October 14, 1942 He and three other men escaped Colditz through the kitchens, out through the German area of the camp into the dry moat of the castle. The four split into two groups and all made it to Switzerland.
Wrote three books based on his experiences as a P.O.W. in the German Colditz castle.
His first book was Colditz: The Colditz Story (1952), he also wrote The Latter Days (1953). And finally in 1984 the then Major Reid wrote; Colditz: The Full Story..
Served as president of Blackboys Cricket Club in Framfield England in 1972.
The route they followed into Switzerland was a route that other escapee's had used before. The German commander of the area was so confident the war was going to end soon he allowed escapee's to cross into Switzerland.
