In a year that saw François Delisle’s Le météore (Sundance and Berlin Film Festival accepted film) receive no love (zero nominations), and Denis Côté’s critically well-received Vic + Flo Saw a Bear was perhaps too askew for the voting clique (it did grab best Actress for Quebec’s “Melissa Leo” in Pierrette Robitaille), it was a bigger than life biopic by helmer Daniel Roby that flexed its muscles, beating out the comp. The high gloss Louis Cyr won in several tech categories and it’s strongman Antoine Bertrand won for Best Actor. Considered the favorite to win the top prize, Gabrielle was awarded the Best Director and Screenplay awards for Louise Archambault. Oddly, that film received no Best Actress consideration while it did net Gabrielle Marion-Rivard a Best Actress win at Canadian Screen Awards. Here are the noms and winners of the 16th edition.

V, a French Canadian TV network, will renew the half-hour dramatic comedy Prozac, La Maladie Du Bonheur for a second season.
The first season's finale left us at a moment when Philippe Racine (Patrice Robitaille), a fallen columnist of a prestigious newspaper, was making some progress in his therapy. After all, he wanted to commit a suicide after he knowingly plagiarized an article of a French newspaper.
Also returning for the second season will be François Létourneau, Isabelle Blais, Louis Morissette, Gilles Renaud, France Castel, Louise Portal, Jean-Pierre Bergeron, Martin Laroche, Sophie Cadieux and Sandrine Bisson.
For the moment, V hasn't announced any premiere date for Prozac, which was written by Sophia Borovchyk and Karina Goma. However, the show will probably return next fall.

A fourth trailer of the upcoming adventure blockbuster Le poil de la bête has arrived online. The film's release is scheduled for October 1rst.
The story, which was penned by Stéphane J. Bureau and Pierre Daudelin, takes place in 1665 in New France at a time when a part of Canada was colonialized by France. Joseph Côté (Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge) escapes from a prison in order to avoid death by hanging. Moreover, while some colonial soldiers are chasing him, Joseph takes the identity of a jesuit and hides in the seigneury of Beaufort where most men are waiting for "daughhters of the king"(French women who were sent to Canada in order to find a husband).
At night, Joseph finds out that there are werewolves that terrorize the village. Besides, things get complicated when he falls in love with Marie Labotte (Viviane Audet), a "daughter of the king" that no one wants to marry.

For the winter period, Radio-Canada, a French Canadian public TV network, had nothing serious to offer to us. While Mirador, a show created by Daniel Thibault and Isabelle Pelletier, looks full of promises because of its premise, it sinks quickly into doltishness.
First of all, Mirador is the name of a public relation firm from Montreal headed by Richard Racine (Gilles Renaud). In each episode, a client comes to see Mirador's crisis management team led by Philippe Racine (Patrick Labbé). Obviously, the mandate of Philippe's team is to rebuild the tarnished image of Mirador's given client. Besides working, Philippe also has to deal with the jaleousy of his older brother, Luc (David La Haye), who wants to head the crisis management team so badly or his ex-girlfriend, Véronique (Pascale Bussières), who is now engaged to Carl Imbeault (Sébastien Delorme), a former athlete turned into a TV personality.

Is public relation your way to earn your bread? Have you ever wondered what are all the things we hear about people working in PR? If you live in Canada and can speak French, there's a funny TV series waiting for you on Radio-Canada.
Philippe Racine (Patrick Labbé) has been abroad, because he was disgusted by all the lies he spreaded as a PR. He comes back in Montreal in order to work for Mirador, a PR firm that was founded by his father, Richard (Gilles Renaud). Moreover, to Philippe's surprise, the firm's crisis management unit has been helmed by his brother, Luc (David La Haye). With Philippe's return, Luc feels - and with reason - that the father's pet is back in the house. After all, the patriarch gives Luc's job to Philippe out of trust. However, can Philippe find a way to combine honesty and his dedication to...

MONTREAL -- A dramedy about three Montreal bouncers who face inner dilemmas at work and away dominated this year's Prix Gemeaux awards, which honor the best in Canadian French-language television.
Minuit, le soir grabbed seven trophies in all at Saturday night's ceremony, including the best dramatic actor prize for Claude Legault, a shared best director nod for Jerome Sabourin and Claudine Sauve, and a screenplay award for Pierre-Yves Bernard.
The Prix Gemeauxs, organized by the Academie canadienne du cinema et de la television as the counterpart to the Gemini Awards for Canadian English-language TV series, also saw Cover Girl, a comedy about four transvestites, earn the best supporting actor award for Gilles Renaud and supporting actress trophy for Anne-Marie Cadieux.
TVA primetime soap Annie et ses hommes earned the trophy for best "teleroman," literally translated as "tele-novel," a type of TV series that skews toward female viewers.
Elsewhere, Radio-Canada's Rumeurs, a sitcom about harried magazine staffers, took home the best comedy prize, while mock soap opera Le coeur a ses raisons earned best actor awards for co-stars Marc Labreche and Anne Dorval.
