Sean Diddy Combs was known to lash out at his aspiring artists on the reality series Making the Band. But Danity Kane member Dawn Richard once recalled a time when Diddy went too far with the group. It was the first time a livid Richard was ready to get physical with the producer.

All eyes are on hip-hop superstar Sean “P. Diddy” Combs following the Homeland Security raid on two of his homes in March 2024. Since the raid, fans remember his ex-girlfriend Cassie’s allegations against him. Additionally, the all-girl group Danity Kane, formed on Combs’ MTV series Making the Band, has spoken out against Combs’ actions. Here’s what Combs’ bodyguard, Gene Deal, said about Combs never having a plan for Danity Kane to make it big in the industry.
Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs’ ex-bodyguard, Gene Deal, said he never planned on helping Danity Kane succeed
MTV’s Making the Band gave Sean “P. Diddy” Combs a reality TV platform in the early 2000s. The show gave Combs the power to form pop groups from budding young stars. Danity Kane was formed during Making the Band 3 in 2005, and the all-girl group became a pop sensation after the show. When Danity Kane released their first album,...

It seems like with each passing day there are more accusations and new lawsuits filed against Sean “Diddy” Combs. The music mogul, whose homes were raided on March 25, denies any wrongdoing. But some of the allegations against him are reminding many of his behavior decades ago and his cruel response to the trauma he put others through in his reality TV series Making the Band.
Diddy’s unreasonable demands for the show’s participants
One of the memorable moments from Making the Band 2: Da Band was when Diddy demanded group members Sara Stokes, Lynese “Babs” Wiley, Dylan Dilinjah, Rodney “Chopper” Hill, Frederick “Freddy P” Watson, and Lloyd “Ness” Mathis walk from Midtown Manhattan to Junior’s in Brooklyn and get him a slice of cheesecake. Diddy made it clear anyone who opted not to do the walk would be sent packing.

Dawn Richard Champions the Power of Self-Expression in Moving New Orleans-Set Dance Short ‘Pigments’
Having worked as a songwriter, producer and music-making artist since 2005, Dawn Richard knows the power of self-expression and in creating her first film as director she brings that power to her city, New Orleans. Pigments, which Richard co-directed with filmmaker Monty Marsh, is an experimental blend of dance, poetry and documentary that portrays the city of New Orleans through a lens of pure self-expression. It’s a gorgeous film with a powerful acknowledgement of the stories of individuals which Richards achieves by casting the film with the dance students of the New Orleans Centre for Creative Arts, a decision which allows the film to be embedded in a truth and reality known only by the residents of the famed city. Dn sat down with Richard for a conversation where she talks to us about the decision to shift perspectives on New Orleans in addition to her ongoing development as a multi-hyphenated artist.

Dawn Richard has taken a winding path through her nearly 20-year career. As Sean “Diddy” Combs prepares to reprise “Making the Band,” Danity Kane’s Aubrey O’Day is still recovering from trauma that followed her run on the MTV series.
Under Diddy’s guidance, the 35-year-old singer found fame in reality television, first on “Making the Band,” which auditioned hopeful vocalists for a spot in a to-be-formed music group. The show was launched in 2000 on ABC by late music mogul Lou Pearlman (who formed O-Town on the series’ first season) before Diddy took over the franchise for MTV in 2002, leading to the formation of groups including Danity Kane and Day 26.
Reflecting on her time on the series during an interview with Variety, O’Day claims she experienced behavior from Diddy that she believes he would “not at all” get away with these days. “Diddy’s a father, so hopefully he’s learned things about the way that you handle women and...

Danity Kane is damaged beyond repair. The once-successful girl group, which was formed by Diddy on "Making the Band," hit a major reunion hiccup last year -- after Dawn Richard allegedly attacked Aubrey O'Day. The band's re-launch was called off, but O'Day and fellow Dk alum Shannon Bex went in a new direction on their own, forming the duo Dumblonde. With the twosome's album killing it on iTunes after an indie launch last week, Bex and O'Day stopped by toofab's studio to chat about their latest venture and the demise of Danity Kane. "We were definitely shocked and we were in bed for a good week and crying and trying to figure out what do we do now?," Bex says of the fallout from the fight between Dawn and Aubrey. "We love to create and we love working together so we thought why not get in the studio," she adds.

The behind-the-scenes drama with the women of Danity Kane was worse than we could have ever imagined. The girl group, which was formed by Diddy on "Making the Band" back in 2005, split a few short years later. They re-grouped last year, but fell apart again after a violent fight between Aubrey O'Day and Dawn Richard. Now, Aubrey is speaking out about the band's volatile past with Dawn. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, O'Day and fellow Dk alum Shannon Bex -- who now perform together as the duo Dumblonde -- revealed the tension spans years. "Y’all wanna know straight up? I can fly it back six years ago to the first time I really figured out what it was," Aubrey said before revealing how she first learned of Richard's "manipulation." She said the women were all in studio with Diddy, who told them each to get on their...

2015 has been an exceptional year for both electronic and club music so far. Standout releases from genres as diverse as noise, grime, Idm, hip-hop, techno, R&B, footwork and grime have consistently strayed beyond the boundaries of where electronic music has gone previously. Old masters like Aphex Twin burst back onto the scene with floods of music uploaded to anonymous SoundCloud accounts. Soulful singers such as Kelela and Dawn Richard have been working alongside some of the weirdest producers around to generate bizarre R&B soundscapes. Club sounds have been chewed up and spat back out by the likes of Flava D, Lotic and M.E.S.H. There has been a notable trend towards electronic releases that use the voice as a instrument for exploring identity and gender.

They really wanted to give their fans another album, but sadly Danity Kane has announced that they’re splitting for good.
According to a TMZ report, Aubrey O’Day, Dawn Richard and Shannon Bex hit the recording studio on Monday (August 4) and it was said to be instant friction (Audrea Fimbres jumped ship almost immediately after the reunion was announced last year).
Apparently Dawn got so worked up she hauled off and sucker punched Aubrey, who later told press, “Sadness does not even remotely begin to describe what I feel right now.”
To that end, Ms. Bex chimed in, “I now must walk away feeling used and manipulated.” There’s still no word on the status of the comeback album.

It's a year for reunions at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Girl group Danity Kane is hopping on the trend and will stage a reunion performance at the event. They join -- probably -- boy band 'N Sync in the reunion fever.
Formed by Sean "Diddy" Combs in 2005 as part of MTV's "Making the Band" Season 3, Danity Kane followed up with two hit albums and three Billboard Top 10 hits: "Show Stopper," "Ride for You" and "Damaged." The group was originally made up of five women, Aubrey O'Day, Shannon Bex, Dawn Richard, Aundrea Fimbres and Wanita "D. Woods" Woodgett. O'Day and Woodgett were out of the group by 2008, and the remaining members disbanded in 2009.
Now they're back. Four members of Danity Kane -- O'Day, Bex, Richard and Fimbres -- announced via Instagram that the group had reformed:
"Danity Kane is officially Back! @danitykane #vmas2013 #Rage"
A formal announcement of the reunion...

Danity Kane's Aubrey O'Day took to Instagram on Saturday night to post a new promotional photo of the group, teasing fans with blurred versions of the image before revealing the full picture, writing, "Danity Kane is officially Back!"
The photo shows O'Day with her three of her four original bandmates: Shannon Bex, Aundrea Fimbres, and Dawn Richard. Noticeably absent from the photo is D. Woods, who has been pursuing a solo career. Rumors began swirling in May that the Diddy-created group would be reuniting when O'Day, Bex, Fimbres, and Richard were spotted having lunch together.
Earlier this week, photos surfaced of MTV's seating arrangement for tonight's Video Music Awards, showing seats set aside for the members of Danity Kane. An official announcement about Danity Kane's reunion will be made from the VMAs at 8:15pm E.S.T. on MTV.

Danity Kane was one of the top acts of the 2000s, becoming the first girl group in history to debut their first two albums at the top of the Billboard charts.Issues with management at P. Diddy's Bad Boy Entertainment and infighting created tension among its five members. In a now infamous meeting (televised on "Making the Band"), Diddy fired Aubrey O'Day and D. Woods. Shannon Bex and Aundrea Fimbres were later released from their contracts, which spelled the end of Danity Kane. The only remaining member, Dawn Richard, went onto Diddy-Dirty Money, but that group disbanded, too. Dawn recently spilled secrets about the firings in an interview for "Lounging with Tony" (jump to 7 minute mark):"I was very surprised," Dawn says of the shocking cuts. Before their meeting with Diddy, Dawn reveals the girls had planned to lie to their mentor."We're going to tell him that everything is cool.

Eve, "Lip Lock" (From The Rib/Red)
With her first studio album in 11 years, Eve returns with an unimpressive, unfulfilling new offering, "Lip Lock."
The rapper's rhymes lack passion, her wordplay is too simple, her hooks come across as mundane and she fails to find a musical identity on the 12-track album – particularly on single "She Bad Bad" and "Eve," featuring Miss Kitty.
The album includes top producers like The Neptunes, Swizz Beatz and Rico Love, but even they were unable to save this poor album.
The bright spots are the guest appearances that include Snoop Dogg ("Mama in the Kitchen"), Missy Elliott ("Wanna Be"), Dawn Richard ("Keep Me From You"), Chrisette Michele ("Never Gone") and Gabe Saporta ("Make It Out This Town"). But each talented guest overshadows Eve in every way.
On "Grind or Die," Eve reminds critics she's been banking millions of dollars internationally from Belgium to Japan...
