Cash Out opens with Mason Goddard and his crew stealing an outrageously expensive supercar as what he intends to be his last heist. Things don’t go as planned however as one of them, his girlfriend Amelia no less, is an undercover FBI agent. He barely escapes, and since he was already planning to retire, takes it one step further, he fakes his death and drops out of sight.
Three months later, his brother Shawn drops by trying to interest him in coming out of retirement for one more job. That doesn’t work, but when another member of the crew, Link calls he’s packing and on his way to the airport.
The next thing we know, Mason and Shawn are kidnapping a bank manager and the plan is in motion.

While Renny Harlin was promoting his film, The Bricklayer, JoBlo asked him about the making of Die Hard 2: Die Harder, and he had high praise for star Bruce Willis, who he compared, favourably, to the new generation of action stars, who seem reluctant to ever allow themselves to get beaten up on-screen, Willis never had this issue, said Harlin: “I really wanted Bruce Willis to get really screwed up. His face is a bloody mess by the end of the movie, and like you said, it really does make the character more heroic. They are really taking punishment and keep going.”
However, as we reported a little while back, there was one line Willis didn’t love in Die Hard 2: Just the fax, ma’am…
It’s a line that made audiences laugh, but, in his book “The Last Action Heroes,” writer Nick de Semlyan interviews Harlin, and...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – for Die Hard fans.
While there may be a little less festive cheer to go around this December, one thing remains constant during the holiday season: the debate about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
And one man who probably knows better than most is screenwriter Doug Richardson. Besides Bruce Willis himself, Richardson has had a hand in more Die Hard films than almost anyone out there, starting with the similarly festive follow-up Die Hard 2: Die Harder.
While Willis is firmly in the “no” camp on the question of whether Die Hard and its sequel are Christmas movies, Richardson disagrees.
“It is a Christmas movie,” he tells Den of Geek.
“At this time of year, the internet starts to erupt over whether it’s a Christmas movie. It’s very amusing. But I think it fits the movie and...

Bad Boys/Bad Boys II
Witten by Michael Barrie, Jim Mulholland, and Doug Richardson/Ron Shelton and Jerry Stahl
Directed by Michael Bay
USA, 1995/2003
Say what you will about Michael Bay—and people have said a lot about Michael Bay—the man knows how to make an action movie. Bad Boys, from 1995, his first feature film, and its sequel, from 2003, which is making its Blu-ray debut as part of a 20th anniversary collection from Sony Pictures, are just two notable examples. These films are bursting at the seams with car chases, gunfights, explosions, and more, much more. There isn’t a whole lot beneath the surface, but there doesn’t really need to be. What these two films set out to do, they do very well, and what Bay does best, he does better than anybody. That may not always (hardly ever) be critically acceptable in terms of “quality cinema,...

You know what the best Die Hard is. You know what the worst is. But where do the others sit in the Die Hard league table?
A quick preamble. Over the course of the coming weeks and months, we're going to be exploring many of our favourite movie franchises, and ranking the films in order. Mainly because it gives us a further chance to talk about many of our favourite films.
Inevitably, the ordering in these cases isn't always going to come as a surprise - we go into this with the first and last place in most of these lists immediately obvious - but it's interesting to see how the movies stand in the context of each other. Police Academy week in particular should be a hoot.
When it comes to ranking the Die Hard films then, the battle is really between Die Hards 2 and 3 for second place. But...

The Die Hard series may be quiet at the moment, but there's a unique story behind the writing of each one…
As any action fanatic will tell you, Die Hard is among the best films of its type ever made. Tautly directed by John McTiernan, deceptively well shot by cinematographer Jan de Bont, and full of charismatic turns from Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, and Bonnie Bedelia, it’s seldom been bettered, even by its sequels.
The key to the first film's success, and the sequels in their best moments, is hero John McClane. Tough, sarcastic but ultimately human, he cuts a very different figure from the beefed-up, larger-than-life heroes of 1980s and 90s action cinema. When John McClane gets shot or injured, he actually feels pain. It's something we were keenly aware of in the 1988 original, but gradually ebbed away as the Die Hard franchise drifted from...

A little over a month ago, we posted that in celebration of it’s 25th anniversary there will be a Die Hard Marathon showing all four movies starting around Noon on February 13th followed by the premier of A Good Day To Die Hard at 10Pm getting out just before Midnight. That’s almost 12 action-packed hours of Die Hard awesomeness! As you can guess, there was no way I could refuse to take this opportunity to see one of the greatest action-movie series of all time for the first time on the big screen, or make that Mega-Screen since I decided to see this at Wehrenberg’s Chesterfield Galaxy 14 Cine, which in my opinion is one of the best movie theatres here in the St. Louis area. For $25 you got all five movies plus a collectable lanyard that entitles you to a 25% discount at concessions throughout the whole day and with their wide-selection,...

If you spent any part of the long holiday weekend in front of your television, then you no doubt spotted Die Hard (and Die Hard 2) in heavy rotation either on basic or pay cable. There's also a new Die Hard movie (A Good Day to Die Hard) arriving in theaters on February 14, and you probably caught a TV spot or two for that one as well. Essentially, there was a lot of hard dying over the holidays, and we made sure to spend at least a few hours nursing our New Year's hangover by hangin' with one of our favorite on-screen heroes: John McClane. While tweeting an observation about all the f-bombs in Die Hard 2, our buddy from Cinephilia & Beyond pointed us at the website for writer Doug Richardson (Die Hard 2, Bad Boys, Money Train), and aside from it being a great...

At a cost of 2 million to purchase the rights, it would make sense if some distributor is already waiting in the wings to release Black Water Transit, a thriller that was completed in 2007 and despite a pretty good cast, never made it close to the big screen thanks to Capitol Films closing shop. Production Weekly reports that Die Hard: With a Vengeance stars Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson will reteam for the gritty crime drama Black Water Transit. Story centers on a shady retired Army colonel (Willis) who enlists the help of an innocent ex-marine to ship his illegal gun collection past the feds. Bad Boys scribe Doug Richardson adapts the screenplay based on Carsten Stroud's novel of the same name. Filming was expected to begin last summer with Vin Diesel attached, but will now commence next February in New Orleans sans Diesel. (No explanation was given for his departure.) Music video veteran Samuel Bayer makes his directorial debut with Transit, which is being produced by Willis's Cheyenne Enterprises.

Oscar-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has joined Gene Hackman, Ray Romano and Maura Tierney in the Donald Petrie-directed comedy Mooseport for 20th Century Fox and Intermedia Film. Production is scheduled to start by month's end. Penned by Tom Shulman, Mooseport centers on a former U.S. president (Hackman) who retires to a small Northeastern coastal town. To keep things honest, a local hardware store owner (Romano) runs against him, only to see the race turn into a full-scale battle. Harden will star as the right-hand figure to Hackman's character. Producing the project are Shulman and Intermedia's Basil Iwanyk. Executive producers are Moritz Borman and Doug Richardson, the latter of whom came up with the story line for the project. Harden is repped by ICM, Framework Entertainment and Ira Schreck at Schreck, Rose & Dapello. She next stars on the big screen opposite Julia Roberts in Mona Lisa Smile for Revolution Studios, followed by the Clint Eastwood-directed Mystic River for Warner Bros. Pictures and John Sayles' Casa de los Babys for IFC Films.
