- She, her 68-year-old husband G. David Schine, and one of their six children, 34-year-old son Frederick Berndt Schine (b. February 4, 1962, he was a policeman), were killed in a plane crash on June 19, 1996, the result of an engine failure shortly after take-off. She was 62 years old and the first Miss Universe to pass away. All three were buried together at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.
