The spiritual successor to the classic action film franchises of yesteryear will live on as a TV show. The Has Fallen series, which includes Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen, all having starred Gerard Butler, is set to have a television adaptation titled Paris Has Fallen. The show is already due to start its production at the end of the month, according to Deadline. Principle photography will take place in London and France, starting on May 30.
The series will not have Gerard Butler as the star, although there is no ruling out any cameos, especially since Butler will be a producer on the project through his production company, G-Base. Instead, French filmmaker and actor Mathieu Kassovitz will be starring in the action vehicle. According to the synopsis from Deadline, “Kassovitz will star as Vincent, a protection officer to a French Minister, who is the target of...

Lille’s Series Mania Forum is kicking off today with a packed schedule of talks, screenings and competitions.
Fighting it out in International Competition are the likes of Prime Video’s Toni Collette starrer The Power, Haven of Grace from Magnetic Beats director Vincent Maël Cardona, and Quoc Dang Tran’s Apple TV+ series Drops of God.
They compete against Greek series Milky Way, which opened the festival, Viaplay’s futuristic Russell Tovey drama The Fortress, Red Skies from Israel, The Actor from Iran and Fleeting Lies from Spain. Each will have its world premiere at the event.
The Power is a fantasy series set in a world where the physical balance of power between men and women switches when electric arcs emerge from the fingers of teenage girls all around the world. Debuting later this month, it comes from Sister, the UK producer behind Chernobyl and is based on Naomi Alderman’s sci-fi novel.

With an International Panorama spangled by gems – think Spain’s “Apagón,” Sweden’s “Blackwater,” and Canada’s “Disobey” and “Little Bird” – Series Mania also weighs in this year with one, if not the, strongest and most mouthwatering of international competitions in its history.
Including the opening and closing series, Amazon’s “Greek Salad” and Netflix’s “Transatlantic,” nearly all the global streamers have titles in the lineup, from Apple TV+’s “Drops of God” and Paramount+’s “Fleeting Lies.” The lineup also features some A-List international writing talents, such as the U.K.’s Jack Thorne and Israel’s Ron Leshem and Amit Cohen, whose “The Virtues” and “No Man’s Land” rank among the most memorable of recent Series Mania competition titles, and closing the festival, out of competition, “Unorthodox’s” Anna Wenger.”Fleeting Lies” also represents one of the first series from Pedro and Agustín Almodóvar’s El Deseo label in Madrid,...

Exclusive: Apple TV+ has picked up Drops of God, a series set in the world of fine wine based on a Japanese manga property, from Legendary Entertainment.
Deadline understands that the streamer beat out a number of suitors to land the international series, which is in multiple languages including English, French and Japanese.
However, the most interesting element of the deal is that it marks one of the first times that Apple has dipped its toe into international co-productions and licensing; the majority of its scripted series to date have been fully owned originals. We hear that the first season of Tehran and Losing Alice were picked up in a similar manner.

In “False Flag” Season 3, Streamaze, an Israeli high-tech company, suffers a chemical attack at a hotel which is masterminded by terrorists.
Or does it? Maybe this was an attack on an individual gone awry.
Mossad’s state-of-the art data analysis identifies three suspects, all with possible reasons to commit the outrage, one of whose victims is the Israeli Minister of Culture. But suspicions don’t make them guilty.
‘False Flag’ mainstay character Eitan Koppel is once more dispatched to investigate and is always two moves ahead of the local police. But even in Episode One, as possible explanations proliferate, the series, as in Seasons One and Two, consistently pulls the rug from under the viewer’s feet, suggesting the supposedly guilty may be innocent, and innocent guilty, as a more nuanced and complex picture emerges.

Hulu’s No Man’s Land tells the story of the Syrian civil war through the eyes of Antoine, a young French man, in search for his estranged, presumed-to-be-dead sister. While unraveling the mystery, piece by piece, Antoine ends up joining forces with Isis’ biggest nightmare — a unit of Kurdish female fighters — and travels with them in Isis occupied territory.
The drama premieres November 18 on Hulu.
No Man’s Land co-creator and executive producer Maria Feldman said the idea came to her while watching a news report on the Ypj, an all-female militia fighting Isis in Syria. Feldman said Isis soldiers are scared of the Ypj.
“One of the women explained they want Isis to know women are shooting at them because Isis soldiers are not afraid of dying into battle,” she said during the show’s Ctam panel Friday. “They think they will go to heaven and get 72 virgins unless they are killed by a woman.

Hulu’s upcoming drama, “No Man’s Land,” tells the story of the all-female militia that fought in the Syrian civil war against Isis. Called the Ypj, or Women’s Protection Units, co-creators Maria Feldman and Amit Cohen explained the stories behind these courageous women, and why Isis soldiers were terrified of dying by their hand, during Hulu’s portion of the virtual summer press tour Friday.
“I think they became a potent force because, funnily, Isis soldiers are scared of women,” Feldman said. “This idea came to me when I was watching a news report from the war in Syria about Kurdish fighters, and I saw an image of two very young women in camouflage clothes and colorful scarves. One was shooting a sniper rifle and another one was standing next to her and making this weird noise, shouting ‘la la la.”

The company has expanded its leadership team as Smith and his partner Lee Rosenbaum are being joined by four newly minted partners: Tyler Reynolds, Neda Niroumand, Varun Monga and Sonia Gambaro. Each will have a stake/ownership in the company, and the six partners will have equal say in all decision making.
Smith, a veteran TV lit rep, decided to change the makeup of his company after taking a close look at the top ranks of Hollywood agencies and management companies and being struck by the lack of diversity, especially when it comes to women in leadership positions.
“My first step was to make my immediate colleagues my equals,” Smith said.

Amazon is finalizing a third-season renewal of thriller Absentia, starring and executive produced by Castle alumna Stana Katic, I have learned.
The full second season of Absentia, commissioned for Sony Pictures Television’s international networks, premiered June 14 on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. as well as in select markets globally, following its March 26 debut on Axn. I hear the series is already gearing up to begin production on Season 3 in Bulgaria where the first two seasons were also shot.
Created by Gaia Violo and Matt Cirulnick and based on a pilot script originally written by Violo, Absentia centers on FBI Agent Emily Byrne (Katic), who had disappeared without a trace and was declared dead after hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers. Six years later, Emily was found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of the years she was missing.

The new version of the one-hour romantic comedy series follows the Miami love story between a simple baker and an international superstar. Noa Hollander has it all: she’s the most famous woman in the country, the beautiful daughter of a real estate magnate, a successful model with an international career and – up until now – one half of a Hollywood power couple. The son of Cuban immigrants, Daniel is a simple guy who still lives with his parents and works at the family bakery. A chance encounter at a fancy restaurant leads to unexpected sparks and an even more unlikely love story.

The Stana Katic-led “Absentia” has been renewed for a second season by Amazon, the streamer announced Thursday. The sophomore installment is currently in production in Sofia, Bulgaria and set to debut in 2019 on Prime Video.
“Castle” alum Katic stars in and executive produces “Absentia,” which centers on FBI agent Emily Byrne (Katic). In season one, Emily disappeared without a trace and was declared dead after hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers. Six years later, Emily was found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of the years she was missing. Returning home to learn her husband had remarried and her son was being raised by another woman, she soon found herself implicated in a new series of murders.
In season two, after tracking down and killing her abductor, Emily struggles for a tenuous new normal with son Flynn and ex-husband Nick.

It took awhile but Amazon has officially picked up a second season of thriller Absentia starring and executive produced by Castle alumna Stana Katic. It will debut in 2019 on Prime Video in the U.S., as well as in select markets globally, including Australia, Austria, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey and the U.K.
New cast members joining season two — currently filming in Sofia, Bulgaria — include Matthew Le Nevez (The Widow) and Natasha Little (The Night Manager). Patrick Heusinger returns for season two as Emily’s (Katic) ex-husband and Special Agent Nick Durand. Absentia was commissioned for Sony Pictures Television’s international networks. It is produced by Masha Productions and distributed by Sony Pictures Television.
Soon after Absentia’s Amazon debut in February, speculation started about a Season 2 renewal. In anticipation of a pickup, Sony last spring got the writers back together to work on scripts.

In Absentia episode 3, “The Emily Show,” director Oded Ruskin – with actress Stana Katic as his Ingrid Bergman – shows true mastery of Hitchcockian suspense. Granted, from that era Katic looks more like a cross between Audrey Hepburn & Sophia Loren. However, if you’ve seen the Alfred Hitchcock films Spellbound and Notorious you know I’m not talking about her physical appearance. The reasons Bergman in these films came to mind in terms of Katic are two fold. First is the congruence of their abilities to express so many varied emotions via facial expressions. The second reason is the

When Patrick Heusinger read the script for Absentia Season 1 Episode 1, he decided he had to play the role of Nick Durand, a man caught between his current wife, and the one he thought was murdered by a serial killer.
Patrick chatted with me about the psychological complexities of playing a character surrounded by trauma, filming an entire series in Bulgaria, how he missed out on meeting co-star Stana Katic on the set of Castle, and much, much more.
I’ve watched all of Absentia, and it’s one heck of a psychological thriller. What drew you to the project?
Oded Ruskin, the director of our show. I mean, the first thing that happened was that I got the script, and I read that, and I absolutely fell in love with it, because I only got the first one. But I just really liked that when I got to Alice’s character,...
