Apple is turning its lens on the Iron Horse.
The iPhone maker/streamer is teaming with Universal Television and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video to adapt author Jonathan Eig’s book, Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig, as a scripted television series, sources say.
Dan Kay (the upcoming Spider & Jessie) is on board to co-write the script alongside the author, Eig, and serve as showrunner on the drama, which is currently in the development stages. Eig will be credited as a co-exec producer. Peter Farrelly (Apple’s The Greatest Beer Run Ever) is attached as an exec producer and would direct the pilot should the untitled drama move forward. Michael Uslan, David Uslan and Charles Wessler will also exec produce alongside Saturday Night Live mastermind Michaels and his son, Broadway Video creative exec Eddie Michaels.
It’s unclear if Major League Baseball will be involved in the potential series.

In an interview last year, Yard Act frontman James Smith spoke about how his band had “Trojan Horsed” the music industry. The Leeds-formed group snuck into the charts in 2020 amid a cavalry of post-punk acts. Early singles – the juddery “Dark Days” and the foot-stomping “Fixer Upper”, with its funky “Fame” guitar squalls – saw the four-piece lumped in with London bands such as Dry Cleaning and Black Midi. Eager comparisons were also drawn to the Sprechgesang (spoken-word singing) scene populated by Idles, Sleaford Mods, and Black Country, New Road. But Yard Act’s wry yet good-humoured take on post-punk always had that extra dose of salt, Smith’s tongue firmly in cheek.

With a potential comeback on the cards for Jim Carrey, Rob looks through the hidden gems of his career.

Alrighty then. To get straight to the point – Jim Carrey’s career hasn’t been up to much lately has it? Certainly as leading man, at least. His last big-hitter was 2009’s A Christmas Carol, while his most recent leading role was 2011’s Mr Popper’s Penguins.
His latest performance outside of cameos was an interesting part in Kick Ass 2 though, a promising turn which left many audience-members wanting more from his character. With the trailer dropping recently for Dumb And Dumber To as well, the hints of a comeback for the iconic performer have continued to grow.
There’s been more positivity towards Dumb And Dumber To in comments than we might have expected (although this welcoming response was far from unanimous), which is undeniably a positive sign for the fledgling star.

Yesterday, Deadline reported that Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window is headed to Broadway for a stage adaptation by the producer and director team of Charlie Lyons and Jay Russell (The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep). It makes perfect sense for the film given the single location of the story and how the elaborate set already looks like something constructed for a play. But while many have tried in the past to bring the property to the stage, this is the first time anyone could secure the rights to the source material, Cornell Woolrich's short story "It Had to Be Murder." Perhaps it was the success of the stage version of The 39 Steps or of Lyons' Bring It On: The Musical -- or both? Movies are turned into stage plays or musicals all the time, whether...

Alfred Hitchcock is having a moment. Just a month before the movie "Hitchcock," in which the director is played by Anthony Hopkins, hits theaters comes the news that Hitch's famous 1954 film "Rear Window" will be adapted for Broadway by actor Tim Guinee, producer Charlie Lyons, and director Jay Russell. The classic murder mystery starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly is actually an adaptation itself, based on Cornell Woolrich's 1942 short story "It Had to Be Murder." Both stories follow a wheelchair bound man who witnesses a supposed murder in the apartment across from his window. The only main different between the film and story is Hitchcock's addition of Grace Kelly's girlfriend character. Ownership of the original story has been a controversial topic since 1990 when the first lawsuit was filed against "Rear Window" for copyright infrigement. Rights to the short story were litigated once again in 2008 for Universal Studios' modernized remake "Disturbia.

It took two years, but Tim Guinee, Charlie Lyons, and Jay Russell have secured the stage rights for Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Rear Window, with plans to adapt the film to Broadway.
The film was based on a 1942 story “It Had to Be Murder,” by Cornell Woodrich. Russell had this to say about their adaptation: ”We are assembling a world-class team of artists to bring this timeless thriller to the stage…Woolrich’s story is deliciously dark and edgy, and our plan is to make it brand new all over again.” Russell has directed My Dog Skip, Tuck Everlasting, and The Waterhorse, all children-aimed schmaltz. Lyons is a producer for Bring It On: The Musical currently. Guinee, of course, will look familiar to fans of The Good Wife, Revolution, and a smattering of other TV shows in the past decade or so.

Rear Window is to be adapted into a stage play on Broadway. The rights to Cornell Woolrich's 1942 story have been purchased by Ladder 49 filmmakers Charlie Lyons and Jay Russell, along with Homeland actor Tim Guinee, reports Deadline. The story was most famously adapted into a movie by Sir Alfred Hitchcock in 1952, starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. Stewart played a photographer bound to his wheelchair who begins spying on neighbours across the street, and eventually witnesses what he believes to have been a murder. Broadway rights for the story have been heavily sought after from the Sheldon (more)...

Producer Charlie Lyons and director Jay Russell have nabbed the theatrical rights to Cornell Woolrich's 1942 short story, "It Had to Be Murder." Contemporary audiences will likely be more familiar with the title Rear Window - this short was the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 classic, which starred James Stewart and Grace Kelly.
Lyons and Russell are teamed with actor Tim Guinee (Iron Man, John Carpenter's Vampires) to bring the noir tale to the stage. This is the first time stage rights have been granted for the short, after two years of negotiations.
Interestingly, Lyons's current show is the cheerleader musical Bring It On.

"Rear Window" is getting a Broadway makeover.
To be clear, this won't be an adaptation of Hitchcock's "Rear Window." Producer Charlie Lyons, director Jay Russell and "Homeland" actor Tim Guinee announced this morning that they purchased the rights to Cornel Woolrich's short story "Rear Window," that was originally called "It Had To Be Murder." Deadline has the news, saying that some major elements of Hitchcock's "Rear Window" will be absent from the stage version; namely, there's no girlfriend and no sassy maid.
Alfred Hitchcock is a hot commodity right now between the HBO movie "The Girl" and the Anthony Hopkins-starring feature film "Hitchcock," so it seems like there's no better time to bring the story that inspired one of his most famous films to the stage.
The basic "Rear Window" story will remain the same: A man who can't leave his apartment sees what he think is...

Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Rear Window takes place almost entirely in one setting, so it makes sense that someone would try to adapt it for stage. Sure enough, this morning a consortium of producers announced their intention to bring Rear Window to Broadway…kind of. This morning, Producer Charlie Lyons, director Jay Russell, and actor Tim Guinee (the dead dad on Revolution) announced that they had purchases stage rights for Rear Window – that is, for Cornel Woolrich’s short story Rear Window, originally titled “It Had to be Murder,” which was adapted by screenwriter John Michael Hayes for the 1954 movie.

New York — A producing team has won the theatrical stage rights to "Rear Window," the noir tale that Alfred Hitchcock made into a classic film.
Producer Charlie Lyons, director Jay Russell and actor Tim Guinee announced Wednesday that their two-year hunt for the rights have been successful and they're hoping to mount the show on Broadway.
"Rear Window" is based on a Cornell Woolrich short story, "It Had to Be Murder," that was first published in February 1942 in Dime Detective Magazine.

Literary agent Sheldon Abend in 1971 purchased a copyright to the short story on which "Rear Window" was based. The new producing team bought the first stage option ever granted by Abend's trust.
Lyons has produced such films as "The Water Horse," "The Guardian" and "Ladder 49." Russell directed "Ladder 49" and "My Dog Skip.

Last week, rumors circled that [1] Real Steel director Shawn Levy was thinking of leaving the 3D remake [2] of Fantastic Voyage and looking to jump ship to another Fox project: Frankenstein. Variety is now reporting that, a few minor details aside, that's become a reality. The film is written by Max Landis and is reportedly a revisionist story that presents "a sci-fi take on the traditional Mary Shelley story, focusing on themes of friendship and redemption." Levy's involvement puts this film in the pole position to come out before a half-dozen similar films currently in development. Variety [3] lists the other Frankenstein films as follows: Wake the Dead starring Haley Joel Osment in a modern-day take based on the graphic novels of Steven Niles, directed by Jay Russell Universal's update from Guillermo del Toro and Scott Stuber I, Frankenstein, written and directed by Stuart Beattie for Lakeshore Entertainment This Dark Endeavor: The...

Shawn Levy is officially set to helm Fox's Frankenstein film, one of the half-dozen other projects based on the classic monster tale. Earlier we reported Levy (Real Steel) was in consideration to direct a script penned by Max Landis (Chronicle). The studio was considering a number of high-profile directors, including Paul Greengrass and David Yates. The project is said to be a revisionist sci-fi take on Mary Shelley's story, and will focus on themes of friendship and redemption.
Production dates have not been set for any of the Hollywood's numerous Frankensteins. Haley Joel Osment is set to star in Wake the Dead, a modern-day horror take based on Steven Niles' graphic novels. It was thought that this project to be directed by Jay Russell would be the first film to go into production. Fox has put this project as a priority and now with Levy's hiring this project coud...

Years after the child star's expected DUI charge, Haley Joel Osment is returning back to the genre that gave him his biggest boost of all---horror. Osment is starring in the upcoming film Wake the Dead, based on graphic novel of the same name, because obviously no one can get enough comic book graphic novel adaptions. Osment plays Victor Franklin, one of two med students who are on a mission to bring the dead back to life. If you're keeping track, I believe this makes the 4th** Frankenstein adaption soon to be released.
Haley Joel Osment is 23 years old now. Can you believe it? I must say I am strangely curious to see how his acting has carried over from his wild college days into now. In fact, I always grow a little worried on the inside when I hear that a child star is making his comeback into acting, because...

Haley Joel Osment, the young actor everyone remembers from The Sixth Sense, is set to star in upcoming Frankenstein-themed project, Wake The Dead, Variety report.
Now 23 years of age, Osment has been very much off the radar since his lead role in Steven Spielberg’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence back in 2001, and Wake The Dead could have the potential to resuscitate his once very promising career.
Wake The Dead is to be directed by Jay Russell (My Dog Skip, Tuck Everlasting), in what will be quite a change from the director’s ordinarily family-targeted films. It is being scripted by Russell and James V. Hart (Hook, August Rush), and will be produced by former Guns N’ Roses guitarist and current solo artist, Slash, under his Slasher Films banner, the horror film production outfit that he formed last year.

As writer Steve Niles tweeted recently, “Haley Joel Osment sees dead people again, but this time in pieces.” There are multiple Frankenstein-themed projects in development right now with different studios but this one has just nabbed The Sixth Sense star.
According to Variety, Haley Joel Osment (Sassy Pants, AI) will star as Victor Franklin in a film adaptation of Steve Niles’ (30 Days of Night) graphic novels, Wake The Dead. This modern day Frankenstein tale follows Victor, “a college student experimenting with reversing death.”
Jay Russell (Ladder 49, Tuck Everlasting) will direct the film with a script he adapted along with James V. Hart (Tuck Everlasting, Bram Stokers’ Dracula). Slash, former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, will be producing the project with Michael Williams and Rob Eric of Slasher Films, Slash’s production company dedicated to horror films. Ray Mansfield and Shaun Redick will executive produce.

[1] Clint Eastwood cast [2] Beyonce Knowles as the female lead in his A Star is Born remake some time ago, but he's been searching for someone to take on the male lead. Now it's being reported that his top choice for the part is Leonardo DiCaprio, who worked with Eastwood on the biopic J. Edgar. DiCaprio is just the latest of several candidates who have been named for the part over the past couple of years -- Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, and Will Smith are among the actors once rumored for or attached to the film. DiCaprio would presumably be playing the role of Norman Maine, a fading star with a drinking problem who helps to launch the young starlet's (Knowles) career. DiCaprio isn't the first actor I would've thought of for the part, but I'm all the more intrigued for it. We already know DiCaprio can do gloomy and brooding,...

Yes, it's been eight long years since we've had the pleasure of seeing Haley on film. I've been counting the days. Watching his last film, 2003′s Secondhand Lions over and over again, but it just wasn't enough to satisfy my Haley fix. And now, with this good news, I'm sated. With yesterday's casting of Sixth Sense star, Haley Joel Osment, as young Victor Frankenstein in the upcoming Wake the Dead, a new retelling of Frankenstein, from Slasher Films and Steve Niles, we reached out to the powers that be for some comments.
"My favorite type of horror movies have always been the ones with layered performances and rich characters", Slash tells Dread Central. "Haley brings a wealth of experience to a character who is already wise beyond his years. I'm really looking forward to working with him."
Niles shares Slash's enthusiasm. "I'm thrilled with the casting of Osment for Victor in Wake the Dead. It's the exact kind of outside the box thinking I love."
As Niles said in a previous story, “We want to recapture the quality of horror like they made them in the ’70s. Horror where you care about the characters and story. With ‘Wake the Dead,...

Can you believe that it's been ten years since the cute kid from The Sixth Sense made a movie? The last film that Haley Joel Osment starred in was 2002's Secondhand Lions. Since then he's still been working but as a voice actor for the Kingdom Hearts game series, and going to school. But now Osment is coming out of the woodwork to star in a new scary movie, this one based on a comic book that's inspired by one of the most famous monster tales of all time.
The name of Osment's new project is Wake the Dead, and the comic it's based on comes from the imagination of 30 Days of Night writer Steve Niles. Osment will play Victor, a Dr. Frankenstein-like character who is a promising young scientist. Victor believes that he's discovered a way to defeat death, but it's going to require a few spare body parts from unwilling participants.

Twelve years after he creeped us all out in The Sixth Sense, Haley Joel Osment is still seeing dead people. Only this time around, he’s using them as science projects.
Osment has signed on to star in Wake the Dead, one of Hollywood’s million-and-one upcoming adaptations of Mary Shelley’s classic horror story Frankenstein. In Wake the Dead, based on Steven Niles’ Frankenstein-themed graphic novels, he’s slated to play Victor Franklin, a college student morbidly experimenting with the limits of human death. Jay Russell (Tuck Everlasting, Ladder 49) has signed on to direct.

It looks like former child star Haley Joel Osment will be heading back to the big screen in a modern-day retelling of the Frankenstein story entitled "Wake the Dead." Osment will play a college student who desires to reverse the process of death.
The film is based on the graphic novel by Steven Niles and is being produced by former Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash. For all of you wondering where Osment has been for the past couple of years, Cinemablend tells us that Osment has been taking a hiatus from acting to pursue academics.
He must be one passionate student because he hasn't really made a splash in entertainment news since 2003's "Secondhand Lions." (That is, if you don't count the coverage of his drunken car wreck in 2006 or his role in the very small production "Home of the Giants")
Jay Russell ("Ladder 49", "My Dog Skip") is set to direct.

Haley Joel Osment, whose career was set in motion with the sight to see dead people with The Sixth Sense, is set to star in Wake the Dead, a contemporary retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein based on Steven Niles’s graphic novel.
Osment will play Victor Franklin, a college student who attempts to bring the dead back to life. Obviously for dramatic sakes, it doesn’t go quite well. Jay Russell is directing, and former Guns and Roses axe man, Slash, is producing. [Variety]
It will be very interesting to see Osment playing a more adult role since he has been out of the spotlight for awhile. I wonder if he will end up like many successful child actors, peaking early.
