With 11 feature films, six live-action series, nine animated series — and, lest we forget, one holiday special — the original “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” is starting to feel like it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. “Ahsoka” occupies an interesting spot at the nexus of “Star Wars” storytelling from the past couple decades, though.
The Disney+ series acts as a bridge between the worlds of Dave Filoni’s work on the excellent animated “Rebels” and the innovative technical approach to “The Mandalorian.” Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), former apprentice to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), may have the challenge of trying to preserve the galaxy in the face of sinister threats from Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) and others, but “Ahsoka” has the challenge of blending templates set in animation with the demands of live-action — and pushing both forward, as the show takes Ahsoka and the...

“Hater says I’m superficial,” muses one of the TikTok influencers who rule the version of the world that obsesses 19-year-old Liane in Agathe Riedinger’s Cannes Competition entry Wild Diamond (Diamant Brut). “Yes, I’m superficial,” continues the influencer, “but that doesn’t mean I’m a moron.”
Maybe not, but there aren’t many prospects for young women like her fan Liane (Malou Khebizi), whose adeptness at facial contouring, applying diamantés to her towering shoes and blowing kisses to her 50,000-and-counting followers are not generally regarded as marketable skills. Not in the old-school versions of the world, anyway; she can see that her middle-aged career counsellor, for all that she is worn down by Liane’s tantrums, pities her.
Liane doesn’t see things that way. For her, being beautiful – her kind of beautiful, read: hot — is her future. It makes people look at her. They may look...

Cameron Monaghan, known for his fan-favorite portrayal of Jedi fugitive Cal Kestis in the Star Wars Jedi video game series, recently set out his one condition for agreeing to bring the character to live-action It would have to be meaningful.
Will Disney+ Finally Bring Cal Kestis to Live-Action After Past Failures? Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis
Speaking at a FanExpo Vancouver 2024 panel with The Direct, Monaghan told fans he wants to ensure any potential live-action debut makes narrative sense and continues Cal’s story in a substantive way.
“It would have to be right. By that I mean, it has to continue the story or the character in some way. I don’t want him to just kind of show up to stand around and be there,” Monaghan explained. “I want him to mean something and for there to be a significance for the character itself. So, it would have to make sense.

Ezra Bridger is one of the best characters "Star Wars" has introduced in the last decade. Like any classic "Star Wars" protagonist, he starts out cocky and comes from little, but grows to become a confident and competent key figure in the fight against evil.
What makes Ezra different than Luke, Rey, or Ahsoka is how playful he is. Ezra is more likely to quip and make fun of his opponents in the middle of a fight than to whine about power converters. Quite a big amount of Ezra's screentime in the fantastic "Star Wars Rebels" is spent with him pretending to be other people for laughs, whether it's Jabba the Hutt or Lando Calrissian.
Yet Ezra is also capable of getting serious when the situation demands it, showing great feats of strength in the process. One of the best moments of the live-action "Ahsoka" was when Ezra fought against...

The apprentice has become the master... and unlike the Sith, he didn't have to stab him in the back with his lightsaber to do so! Yes, nearly 20 years after George Lucas recruited a humble storyboard artist and animation assistant director by the name of Dave Filoni to work with him at the newly launched Lucasfilm Animation, Filoni has now been named the chief creative officer at Lucasfilm. And if you were expecting him to just sit around on his hands after almost five years without a new "Star Wars" movie, well, guess again.
As part of today's announcement that Filoni's fellow "The Mandalorian" executive producer Jon Favreau is helming a film spinoff titled "The Mandalorian & Grogu," the official Star Wars website has confirmed that Filoni is "currently developing" a second season of his "Mandalorian" spinoff series "Ahsoka." “Ahsoka” Season 2 is in development with creator Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm has confirmed.
The news came with the reveal of the new “Star Wars” film “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau, which was unveiled Tuesday morning.
“‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2, among those in the works,” the announcement said.
“Ahsoka,” which aired its Season 1 finale on Oct. 3, starred Rosario Dawson as the fan-favorite Jedi, who’s trying to save the galaxy from Grand Admiral Thrawn, a new threat after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Dawson first brought Ahsoka Tano to live-action in “The Mandalorian” Season 2 and also appeared on “The Book of Boba Fett.”

Ahsoka star Eman Esfandi called his own shot.
When Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano first appeared in live-action on The Mandalorian season two and voiced her intention to find the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), Ezra Bridger’s own jump to live-action immediately became a near-inevitability for die-hard Star Wars fans. The already-great odds increased even more when Dawson’s spinoff series, Ahsoka, was announced shortly thereafter in December 2020, with longtime Star Wars creator and George Lucas apprentice Dave Filoni at the helm. This meant that Filoni would likely introduce not only Ezra and Thrawn into the live-action fold, but also plenty more of his beloved animated characters from the likes of Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
As a result, the role of the long-lost Jedi, Ezra, became one of the most coveted parts in town, and six months before the casting process even started,...

Five years removed, "Star Wars Rebels" remains one of the most beloved creations to come about during the Disney era of Lucasfilm. Across four seasons of animated television, co-creator Dave Filoni and his team helped showcase the formation of the Rebellion with new characters, who would occasionally cross paths with familiar ones. A big reason that the show feels so satisfying is that they managed to really stick the landing, with one heck of a series finale. But making that finale was quite the undertaking, so much so that Filoni had to keep some big secrets along the way.
Speaking to IGN after the finale in 2018, Filoni explained that he had to be very deliberate in his approach to the two-part finale, "Family Reunion and Farewell." The finale takes viewers years after the main events of the series, showing what happened after the conclusion of the original "Star Wars" trilogy.

Many fans noticed that Natasha Liu Bordizzo's Sabine Wren was sometimes disrespectful toward Rosario Dawson's Ahsoka Tano in Disney+'s Ahsoka series, and now, there's an explanation as to why.
Ahsoka was one of Star Wars' most ambitious Disney+ projects as it served as a sequel to Star Wars Rebels and introduced characters like Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla into live-action for the first time.
One of the project's main plotlines was the relationship between Sabine and Ahsoka, which was quite different than the last time fans saw them together.

Ahsoka hasn’t yet been officially renewed for another season, but with all of the loose threads left by the season 1 finale, it’s hard not to dream about where season 2 could take these characters.
With Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), and Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) now stranded on Peridea and Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) returning home with an army of entombed Nightsisters in tow, there is a lot at stake across not just one, but two galaxies. Now that the Nightsisters have officially made a comeback in the New Republic era, I can’t think of a better character to bring into Ahsoka than Nightsister Merrin (Tina Ivlev).
First introduced in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Merrin has since appeared in the 2023 sequel Star Wars...

Ezra Bridger actor Eman Esfandi just admitted he purposefully avoided watching all of Star Wars: Rebels ahead of his time filming Ahsoka.
The latest Star Wars Disney+ series brought a ton of characters from the animated Rebels show into live-action for the first time—meaning, every one of them had a legacy to keep in mind.
Thankfully, actors Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo have both been very vocal about having done their research before tackling the characters of Ahsoka and Sabine. Even Mary Elizabeth Winstead confirmed she watched all of Hera’s previous appearances before becoming the fan-favorite Star Wars general.

In the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," we were introduced to the character of Professor Huyang, an architect and lightsaber designer droid who has been instructing younglings studying to be Jedi for, as he says in the series, "over a thousand generations." Visually designed with inspiration from concept artist Ralph McQuarrie's original art for C-3Po, Huyang's database has all the information about every lightsaber ever made and the Jedi who wielded it. He's got drawers full of lightsaber parts (which was based on creator Dave Filoni's grandfather's basement draws full of tools and parts), and he's always ready to help guide the young padawan in the creation of their first weapon. Plus, as we saw in the live-action Disney+ series "Ahsoka," he helps with Sabine's (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) lightsaber training. Huyang is voiced in both projects by David Tennant, aka the Tenth Doctor from "Doctor Who,...

Getting to see a live-action version of the "Star Wars Rebels" character Sabine Wren was pretty cool. Whatever your feelings about the series, Natasha Liu Bordizzo absolutely captured the animated character from "Rebels" voiced by Tiya Sircar. In the Disney+ live-action "Ahsoka," we learned that Sabine had begun training as a Jedi with Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) before the events of the series. However, it wasn't working out and they'd parted ways. As the show begins, Ahsoka needs Sabine's help, and their training starts up again. Sabine is still struggling with frustration about her powers, and where she fits in the universe now. Add in the fact that she's missing her friend Ezra (Eman Esfandi) who is missing along with Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and you have a recipe for some personality clashes.

Former anchor for Good Morning America T.J. Holmes has finally reached a divorce settlement with his ex-wife, Marilee Fiebig.

While "Star Wars" animation fans like myself will probably always be haunted wondering what might have been had "Ahsoka" been the animated "Star Wars Rebels" sequel series we always longed for, the first season of the live-action continuation we got has left the story of Ahsoka Tano in a decidedly interesting place. Picking things up from "The Mandalorian," the show has Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan (Rosario Dawson) reunite with her estranged pupil, Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), to continue their hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), in the hopes of both preventing him returning to reunite the scattered remnants of the Galactic Empire and recovering their lost friend Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). Their subsequent adventure takes them to a completely different galaxy far, far away, bringing the pair face-to-face with fallen Jedi, Dathomirian witches, a graveyard of purrgil or "star whale" bones, and even zombie troopers.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments in the Season 1 finale of “Ahsoka,” currently streaming on Disney+.
There’s a brief moment in the penultimate episode of Season 1 of “Ahsoka” when characters from at least four different eras of “Star Wars” occupy the same scene. The most recent character is Capt. Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee), the New Republic ranger first introduced in 2020 on the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” Then there’s the focus of the scene, Gen. Warning: This article discusses major spoilers for the "Ahsoka" season 1 finale.
Even as far back as when "Ahsoka" was first announced and it became more and more apparent that this new show would act as a sequel to "Star Wars Rebels," I've had one obvious question burning at the forefront of my mind: Why make this into a live-action series, rather than another animated one? After all, fans first fell head-over-heels in love with heroes like Ahsoka, Ezra, Sabine, Hera, and Kanan because of their distinctive and wonderfully expressive character designs, their pitch-perfect voice actors, and the grand adventures they experienced together within a medium that allowed for endless amounts of creativity and imagination. To strip such core traits away from these Rebels, recast (most of) them with a bunch of lookalikes, and drop them in unfamiliar and jarring live-action environments is to misunderstand what made them so appealing in the first place.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers.
The moment I was sure I did not like "Ahsoka" came when Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) finally reunites with Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) in episode six. The season had been building to this major moment; Sabine had traveled so far, made so many complicated decisions and promises, and believed for so long that Ezra was still out there, alive. Ezra was her only family left, she'd said. So seeing him again is the only thing that matters.
And then when she finally finds him. . . they share a tepid hug. That's it. Ezra says he's surprised she found him, but zero surprise is evident from the way he actually says that. When he starts to ask how she did it - crucially lacking any astonishment or confusion or real emotion accompanying the question - she says, "I just want to be happy that I found you.

In Ahsoka Episode 8, Ezra Bridger surprised fans by not only constructing a new lightsaber but one with a different colored blade.
Throughout the latter half of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra wielded a green-bladed lightsaber which Sabine Wren received before the series conclusion.
In Ahsoka on Disney+, Sabine brought Ezra's saber to Peridea and tried to return it to him. However, he rejected it, preferring to rely on the Force alone, that is, until Ahsoka's season finale.

Despite losing to Grand Admiral Thrawn and getting stranded on Peridia for the foreseeable future, Ahsoka and Sabine still somehow manage to end things on a high note. They’ve both learned from each other and grown throughout the season, and now they’re truly ready to believe in themselves and trust in each other. It’s really no surprise that Sabine is finally able to use the Force once she’s strengthened her connection with Ahsoka, who makes a master’s promise to always have her padawan’s back, no matter what.
It’s why despite everything that’s happened, Ahsoka and Sabine seem very much at peace with their grim circumstances at the end of the season. “Ezra is where he needs to be, and so are we,” Ahsoka tells her apprentice as they walk off to join their new friends,...

The Ahsoka finale, “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord,” invites many questions. What exactly is the deal with the zombie Night Troopers? Why would a witch need a sword? What has been motivating ex-Jedi Baylan Skoll? Why does Grand Admiral Thrawn look so much like Elon Musk, when actor Lars Mikkelsen in real life does not resemble the owner of the social media network formerly known as Twitter?
Most importantly, though, is this: Exactly...

Ahsoka Episode 8
“The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord” caps off Ahsoka with an ending that, when compared to the powerful cliffhanger in Rebels that set all of these events in motion, pales in comparison. The episode itself has its highlights as well as quite a few lows, but when you look at the bigger picture that was painted over the course of the eight chapters, this grand finale sadly doesn’t feel all that grand, and it certainly doesn’t reach the great heights of more thrilling, poignant episodes like “Shadow Warrior” and “Far Far Away.”
The heroes are left in precarious positions by episode’s end: Ahsoka, Sabine, and Huyang are stranded on Peridea, and Ezra has returned home to reunite with Hera and Chopper (where’s Zeb?!) and deliver the worst news ever: Thrawn is on his way back to...

This post contains spoilers for the season finale of "Ahsoka," "The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord."
A lot transpires in the season 1 finale of "Ahsoka," which ends with a long-awaited homecoming, mingled with the ominous promise of a frightening masterplan in motion. Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) find a way to strengthen their bond while making sure that Ezra (Eman Esfandi) finally returns home, although they're unable to stop Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) from escaping to Dathomir. There are questions that still need answering, including the reason why Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson) abandoned his padawan and chose to walk away in the heat of battle, only to appear standing on top of a pair of statues that resemble the Argonath from "The Lord of the Rings." While Baylan's motivations were shrouded in mystery from the get-go, the appearance of these statues makes matters more convoluted.

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
It all comes down to one final battle in the Nightsister fortress on Peridia. Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra have managed to make it through the barrage of laser fire from Grand Admiral Thrawn’s Star Destroyer and are now climbing up the tower. Standing in their way are a horde of undead Night Troopers and the newly inducted witch, Lady Morgan Elsbeth, who now wields the powerful Blade of Talzin. But while the heroes are able to slice and shoot their way through these obstacles, including taking down Morgan once and for all, they’re ultimately too late to stop Thrawn’s escape.
We watch as the Chimaera zips away from Peridia, while Ahsoka, Sabine, and Huyang are left stranded in this new galaxy with no way to get home. Instead, they’ll have to figure out a new path in this unexplored part of space,...

The first season of “Ahsoka” wrapped on Tuesday night with enough cliffhangers for another season … and/or a “Star Wars” movie (more on that later).
At the end of Episode 7, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) had finally reunited with Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) on Peridea. While Sabine’s primary goal was to reunite with Ezra, Ahsoka remained focused on stopping Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) from returning from exile.
Read of if you want to find out what happened in the Season 1 finale of “Ahsoka” and where the characters could possibly go from here.
Spoiler alert: This post contains plot points from the season finale of “Ahsoka.” Proceed with caution.
For finding Thrawn (and consequently the Great Mothers), Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) was given a reward. The Great Mothers empowered the Nightsister and forged a Blade of Talzin for her — a sword that glows green with mystical energy.

With plenty of questions still looming, Ahsoka’s Season 1 finale on Tuesday night delivered some answers as Grand Admiral Thrawn prepared to make his big exit from Peridea.
The Imperial officer’s mystery cargo had finished loading and they were almost ready to depart. While Morgan was confident that Ahsoka & Co. could do little to stop them, Thrawn remained cautious. He’d seen his cohorts make similar assumptions about the Rebellion to their demise, and even fell victim to the “heroics of a single Jedi” — namely Ezra, who dragged him into deep space via purrgil — and vowed to never make that mistake again.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 8 — "The Jedi, The Witch, and the Warlord."
Well, the season finale of "Ahsoka" is somehow already here, and it definitely left us wanting more. That's not to say that episode 8, "The Jedi, The Witch and The Warlord," was lackluster or anticlimactic, necessarily. There was plenty of action and intrigue as Ahsoka teamed up with Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren on the planet Peridea to try and prevent Thrawn and his army of death troopers from escaping out of exile. Now that Thrawn has finally been introduced into live-action after appearing in "Star Wars Rebels" and multiple novels by Timothy Zahn, he was finally given the spotlight he truly deserves. Then, the credits rolled.
As the last few minutes of the finale came to pass, multiple threads popped up that were all incredibly compelling, suggesting that there is much more to come.

And with that, "Ahsoka" season 1 has come to an end. Though it now very much feels like the end of a first season that will give way to a second season, as there is much left to resolve. In some ways, things are just getting started, as Grand Admiral Thrawn finally made his grand return to the galaxy after being trapped in exile in a different galaxy that was far, far away, for more than a decade. The heir to the Empire is clearly going to try and re-establish Imperial rule under his thumb. But how exactly is he going to do that? This episode provided some answers, and Thrawn's plans are, in a word, dark.

As Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) makes his final preparations to return to his own galaxy, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and Huyang (David Tennant) do their best to stop him. Spoiler Alert: This recap contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of Disney+/Lucasfilm’s Ahsoka, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and written by Dave Filoni.
Heading into tonight’s Season 1 finale of Ahsoka, fans knew we were flying to a cliffhanger; that Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) would make the jump to hyperspace via the space loop while some portion of Ahsoka and friends would be left behind without a prayer in the midst of the green tundra tumbleweeds of Peridea in a galaxy far, far away.
What didn’t happen in this episode were any major cameos from Star Wars canon dramatis personae of yore, i.e., Princess Leia or Luke Skywalker or Boba Fett or Baby Yoda. No, we got our fill of that with C-3Po in the last episode, when he appeared to defend Hera’s rogue mission before the snarky Galactic council.
Where do we go from here?...

There’s a pervasive sense of optimism in the air in Hollywood that has nothing to do with the onset of fall weather. The Writers Guild of America is no longer striking, and today the heads of major studios like Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery are sitting down with the Screen Actors Guild to see if the new contract with the WGA can’t provide a blueprint toward a deal with it as well.
By this time next week, a deal could well be in place that allows SAG and its affiliated members to get back to work. Until then, however, users can enjoy a fantastic new selection of shows and movies that are coming to streaming this week!

The Direct has some bold predictions for what's to come in the Ahsoka finale.
Ahsoka has certainly been a wild ride across its first seven episodes, but alas, all good things must come to an end, and the Disney+ season will wrap up with Episode 8 on Tuesday, October 3.
Following the end of the latest episode, Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra have been reunited on Peridea, while Thrawn continues plotting his return to the original galaxy and Hera tries to convince the New Republic of the threat.

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.
It’ll be a race to the finish line in the final episode of Star Wars: Ahsoka. Both sides want to escape Peridia and return to New Republic space, but in the penultimate episode, “Dreams and Madness,” it really looks like it’s the villains who hold all the cards. While Thrawn has a Star Destroyer, Night Troopers, the Witches of Dathomir, two dark siders, and the Eye of Sion on his side, Ahsoka and friends don’t even have their purrgil anymore. How the hell are the heroes supposed to not only stop Thrawn’s plans of galactic conquest but also get back home? Only showrunner Dave Filoni knows at the moment.
But what Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra plan to do to thwart the Grand Admiral isn’t the finale’s only big mystery. There’s also the question of what’s...

Disney’s Ahsoka premiered its seventh episode today, and it showcases a reunion between two of the fan-favorite characters in the show. The previous episode witnessed Sabine Wren finally meeting Ezra Bridgers, years after his disappearance, but she was still worried about Ahsoka. Moreover, Thrawn had sent his scouts Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati on the lookout for the Jedi and had instructed them to eliminate both when the chance arose. This episode ties up a lot of loose ends, but it leaves a lot more questions unanswered.
Spoilers Ahead
What Does Huyang Tell Ahsoka?
Ahsoka‘s penultimate episode opens with Ahsoka training with her Lightsaber as a hologram of her master, Anakin Skywalker, who gives her important tips. Huyang comes in, and she temporarily pauses her training to announce that Anakin has left her 20 holograms, and it’s evident that the recent encounter with her master in the World Between Worlds has impacted her.

Ahsoka Episode 7
“Dreams and Madness,” Ahsoka season 1’s penultimate episode, looks great on paper but falls short in execution. We get to spend more time with Ezra and Sabine, we get to see Thrawn exert his tactical dominance from his war room on Peridea, there’s a frantic space chase inside a Purrgil graveyard, and we’re even treated to a lengthy cameo by C-3Po. So why does the episode fall a little flat?
It’s not that there’s one big issue that tanks the entire episode. Rather, it’s an accumulation of little creative decisions that don’t hit the mark. Take C-3Po saving Hera and Teva’s asses in the courtroom, for example. It’s fun to see him put Senator Xiono in his place and clear Hera’s name on Leia’s behalf, but as a courtroom scene,...

Dave Filoni really knows how to give the people what they want, and this week’s episode of Ahsoka was no exception.
Tuesday’s installment, titled “Dreams and Madness,” brought back a fan-favorite character from the original Star Wars film trilogy and delivered more satisfying nods to the Clone Wars animated series.
