In a year when the war in Vietnam dominated the news, the reports of correspondent Morley Safer were marked by journalistic integrity and honesty, sensitivity and forcefulness. Complaints from home viewers and governmental officials for bringing the ugly facts of the war in Southeast Asia to television were, in a sense, recognition that his reporting was objective, impartial, and accurate. For his courageous accomplishments in presenting the realities of the Vietnam War to the American people, this Peabody Award for television news coverage to Mr. Safer.
