Beth Schacter, previously the co-showrunner on “Billions” and the showrunner of “Super Pumped, will serve as showrunner and executive producer on “Dead Money.” Kerr will also executive produce along with Allie Goss of Brillstein.
According to the official description, the book “follows Mackenzie Clyde, an ‘investigator’ (some may call her a fixer) for San Francisco’s preeminent venture capital firm. “That’s like a billion dollars in Indiana.” That quip from Bobby Axelrod is one of the memorable lines in the series finale of “Billions,” the Showtime drama series that wrapped its seven-season run Oct. 27 with the crowd-pleasing episode “Admirals Fund.”
Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis, delivers that line as he takes a victory lap after demolishing his latest foil, rival hedge fund manager Mike Prince (Corey Stoll). It’s a reference to that fact that Prince, after an elaborate sting pulled off by Axelrod and the core “Billions” ensemble, is left wiped out but for $100 million he invested with Black-owned banks a few years ago. Axe’s comment and Prince’s broad smile suggest that the latter is headed to the Midwest to nurse his wounds and rise anew.

Billions will make its last power move — at least in this iteration of the franchise — later this year.
Showtime has confirmed that the seventh season of the series, which will feature the return of Damian Lewis as Bobby Axelrod, will be its last. Season seven will begin streaming Aug. 11, with an on-air premiere at 8 p.m. Et/Pt Aug. 13. (Co-star Dan Soder let it slip in a radio interview in March that the coming season would be it for Billions.)
While Billions is ending, the world of the show could continue as Showtime is developing several spinoffs (two of which are tentatively titled Millions and Trillions) with co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien. The potential spinoffs are part of Showtime’s strategy to franchise some of its most successful original series.

Damian Lewis is returning to the franchise and a multitude of spinoffs are being explored, but Billions could be set to end with its seventh season.
Dan Soder, who plays Dudley Mafee, a onetime Axe Capital employee who becomes Taylor Mason Capital’s first employee, recently let slip that Showtime’s longest-running drama is coming to an end with its upcoming season.
Soder revealed the news during an appearance on NBC Sports Chicago’s Football Night. “Season seven, the final season of Billions, is on its way,” a San Francisco 49ers-clad Soder said, before realizing that he probably shouldn’t have let that slip. “Am I not supposed to say that? I don’t know if I’m supposed to say that,” he added.
Showtime declined to comment.
The news comes as Lewis is returning as Bobby Axelrod in six of the 12 episodes that are set to premiere later this year.

Showtime’s limited series “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber” from “Billions” creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien wears its bombast proudly from the first scene. “Are you an a–hole?” Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) asks a prospective employee. It’s a question that lingers over the whole show – especially as Kalanick’s morally dubious business practices turn the ride-sharing app into a transformational phenomenon that most people watching the series likely use to this day.
In finding the right musical accompaniment to “Super Pumped,” Koppelman and Levien and music supervisor Randall Poster leaned heavily on loud and blustery songs from the legendary rock band Pearl Jam to help track Kalanick’s rise and eventual fall. But the show’s score, from “Billions” composer Brendan Angelides, is socially different in a way that allows “Super Pumped” to find the humanity of its story.

Greed was good in the 1980s and it’s even better now. At least for Travis Kalanick. The CEO of Uber from 2010 to 2017 resigned from the rideshare company because of reports of a toxic corporate culture that ignored reports of sexual harassment. Even though he ended up resigning, Kalanick strategically sold most of his shares in the company adding some 2.5 billion to his personal coffers.
Two years later, New York Times journalist Mike Isaac wrote the acclaimed book “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” which examined the company from its founding to going public in 2019. And on Feb. 27, Showtime premiered its new limited series of the same name starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Kalanick. “Super Pumped” is a perfect description for Gordon-Levitt’s performance.
The showrunners of “Super Pumped” — Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Beth Schacter — recently took part in a Zoom interview with the Washington Post’s Technology editor Christina Passariello.

Photo: ‘Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber’ According to Men’s Health, there are many sub-genres of the “bro.” Based on true events, ‘Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber’ has a provocative way of dramatizing the toxicity that seemingly reverberates through Silicon Valley. The series comes from the imaginative minds of Brian Koppelman, Beth Schacter, and David Levien. The brains behind Showtime’s ‘Billions.’ The creative trio wrote, directed, and executive produced ‘Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber’ to bring a wildly chaotic and true story to life. The show narrows its focus to Uber's founder Travis Kalanick and his strengthening desire for power and fame. Considered as one of the most notable tech bros of blossoming out of Silicone Valley, Joseph Gordon-Levitt spearheads the show by playing Kalanick himself, a loose-cannon who thrives off of toxic work environments and an unquenchable thirst for worship. Published in 2019, Isaac’s book “Super Pumped” serves as the basis for the first season of the new series and chronicles the rise and fall of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, who ran the company until he was removed as CEO in 2017 following numerous accounts of cultivating a toxic workplace culture full of sexual harassment and brash business decisions.
When asked why the “Billions” co-creators gravitated towards the story of Uber, Koppelman pointed to the ubiquitous nature of the company. “It...

For fans of Showtime’s drama Billions, the upcoming Super Pumped: The Battle For Uber may familiar in more ways than one – from the story of a striving entrepreneur looking to shake up their industry, to some of the talent that appears throughout the second. During a TCA panel on Wednesday, executive producers Brian Koppelman, David Levien and Beth Schacter said that they also felt the similarities upon depicting the rise of Uber for Showtime.
“Our voice is our voice, and that’s not an intentional thing,” said Koppelman. “Everybody who does this for a while…[is] working from the place that they’re most connected to.”
Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Uma Thurman and Kyle Chandler, Showtime’s Super Pumped tells the story of the ride-sharing company that stands out as both a marvel and a cautionary tale, featuring internal and external battles that ripple with unpredictable consequences. The series is based...

“Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber” is the first season of a Showtime anthology series from the “Billions” team of Brian Koppelman, Beth Schacter and David Levien. As you can probably figure out from the subtitle, Season 1 follows the story of ride-share company Uber and its co-founder/former CEO Travis Kalanick (played on the show by Joseph Gordon-Levitt). And if you haven’t read Mike Isaac’s book, also titled “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” about the entire ordeal, you probably have no idea what that first part means. We’re here to help.
The notion of being “Super Pumped” is verbally spoken several times in Season 1 by Jgl’s Kalanick, and the term was also one of Kalanick’s real 14 core values for his app-based taxi cab-replacement service. So it makes enough sense for Season 1 of the TV show. But it would make exactly zero sense for the already-ordered second season,...

What do you get when you mix Manhattan district attorneys, corrupt billionaires, and Silicon Valley unicorns? Well, apparently that all adds up to Quentin Tarantino.
The “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” auteur signed on to narrate Showtime’s limited series “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” premiering February 26 — and that’s mostly because of his love of co-creators David Levien and Brian Koppelman’s work on “Billions.”
“Super Pumped” tells the story of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Uma Thurman portrays Arianna Huffington, while Hank Azaria stars as Apple’s Tim Cook. Kyle Chandler, Baba Tafti, Kerry Bishé, Mousa Hussein Kraish, and Elisabeth Shue round out the cast. “Super Pumped” hails from Levien and Koppelman, as well as Beth Schacter, who serves as the current showrunner on “Billions.”

Quentin Tarantino’s voice is unmistakable, so when it suddenly appears early in the new Showtime limited series “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” there’s no question who it is. Only how he got there.
As it turns out, it was Tarantino’s fandom of the Showtime series “Billions” that paved the way for his surprise role in “Super Pumped,” which charts the rise and fall of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick as played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The limited series hails from “Billions” co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, as well as Beth Schacter who serves as the current showrunner on “Billions.”
“What David [Levien] and I knew was in the last two years – if you listen to the podcast you know what a big deal Quentin’s work is to us – he wrote to us that he had become a really big ‘Billions’ watcher and fan,” Koppelman told TheWrap in a recent interview.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is brash and bullish as former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick in the trailer for Showtime’s “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber,” which debuted on Thursday.
The series from “Billions” duo Brian Koppelman and David Levien and Beth Schacter (“Soundtrack”) tells the story of Kalanick, who was “one of Silicon Valley’s most successful and most destructive unicorns,” according to Showtime’s press release.
Kyle Chandler stars as his mentor Bill Gurley, the venture capitalist who funded Uber’s success.
“We are disruptors. We are kings, gods,” Gordon-Levitt declares in the trailer as Uber takes off. But when things start to fall apart and a colleague tells him, “I’m going to side with the company, ” he yells, “I Am the company.” In another scene, he threatens, “Disloyalty needs to be punished.”
We also see Uma Thurman sporting a wig, an accent and an attitude as Arianna Huffington.

Peloton is none-too-pleased with its recent depiction on a premium cable series. On Sunday night’s “Billions,” Mike Wagner aka Wags (David Costabile) suffers a mild heart-attack while riding a Peloton bike. Sound familiar? The same thing — minus the “mild” part — happened to Mr. Big (Chris Noth) on “Sex and the City” sequel series “And Just Like That…”
Unlike Big, Wags did not die. The Showtime character did, however, acknowledge the HBO Max tragedy.
“I’m not going out like Mr. Big,” Wags said on last night’s “Billions.”
Universes crossed!
A person with knowledge of production told TheWrap the “Billions” scene was written and shot in Spring 2021. Producers later added in the line referencing Mr. Big, we’re told.
Anyway, Peloton is not cool with this particular usage.
