Exclusive: The novel Next to Heaven hit the market this week. Written by Anonymous, it’s a social satire that is being shopped by WME simultaneously for both a publishing deal and a TV deal. The TV deal has just closed, and the publishing deal will be next.
The rights to turn the book into a TV series were snapped up by former Agbo and Chernin executive Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer for their as yet-unnamed production venture. They will produce with Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady (Game of Thrones). Schaefer most recently ran New Regency and produced The Martian.

Austin Butler is going from blades to bikes as he goes from Dune: Part Two to the upcoming period drama, The Bikeriders. Butler revealed that his immediate start on The Bikeriders meant that he couldn’t shave his hair for Dune 2 as time was not allotted to have his hair grow back, so he’s actually wearing a prosthetic bald cap. He got to keep his blonde locks and Focus Features has now released the new trailer for The Bikeriders, which Butler stars in with Tom Hardy.
If you recall, The Bikeriders was originally set for a fall 2023 release via Disney’s Searchlight. The studio ended up selling the film (in an unusual move) to Focus, who decided to set it up as summer counter programming. This might have been a smart move as Butler is sure to come off Dune: Part Two an even bigger star than he was a few months ago.

Focus Features’ new trailer for The Bikeriders features a lot of smoking, a bit of fighting, and, naturally, motorcycle riding. The second trailer also reveals how tight the relationship is between Austin Butler (Dune: Part Two) and Tom Hardy’s characters and the extent they’ll go to to protect the club.
In addition to Tom Hardy and Austin Butler, the cast includes Michael Shannon (Bullet Train), Mike Faist (West Side Story), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead). Jeff Nichols wrote and directed the drama which was originally scheduled for a 2023 release. Focus Features is now planning a June 21, 2024 theatrical release.

Austin Butler and Jodie Comer are ready to drive off into the sunset together — that is, unless Butler’s biker gang boss, played by Tom Hardy, gets in the way first.
The core trio behind Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders” drive the motorcycle-centric drama set in the 1960s. Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, “The Bikeriders” centers on the subculture of the era’s motorcycle riders. Comer plays Kathy, a strong-willed member of the Vandals gang who’s married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny (Butler). Kathy recounts the Vandals’ evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders led by Johnny (Hardy) and later turning into a dangerous crime-driven gang.
Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus also star.

Updating a 2005 action movie, one most remembered for a tabloid frenzy inspired by the on-set romance between its stars, was not on Francesca Sloane’s to-do list. And yet, Donald Glover called her a few years ago with that very proposition.
Sloane had been writing and producing on the final two seasons of Atlanta, a gig that cemented her membership in TV’s art house, and she anticipated her next project would be similarly less mainstream — an erotic comedy featuring animatronic dog puppets, for that matter. But Glover’s pitch was convincing. “I laughed, and then he explained why it’d be cool,” she says. “I was intrigued, then excited and then it became an undeniable ‘yes.’”
Where their Mr. & Mrs. Smith landed is a more subtle spin on the married spy conceit — one that puts priority on relationship dynamics and finds absurd and often surreal parallels in espionage and assassinations.

The new trailer for Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi epic, The Creator, has landed, courtesy of 20th Century Studios. In this final look at the film before its opening later this month, the young AI child curiously inquires Joshua, played by John David Washington, what heaven is. This poignant moment happens to almost any young person who is curious about faith and humanity and soul, but here, it kicks off the philosophical ambiguity of Edwards’ film.
The official synopsis for The Creator reads,
“Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself. Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines,...

Exclusive: Burning Man made national headlines last weekend as shocking weather ravaged the desert campout arts festival and sent thousands searching for ways out of the playa.
From Chris Rock and Diplo hitching a ride out with a fan to a slew of Hollywood types and tech bros sludging through the mud after their private planes couldn’t reach them, it was a crazy year for the event, which has been running since 1986.
So, it’s apt that there’s a docuseries – The Man Will Burn – in the works about the event.
Double Agent, a joint venture between Black Bear and New Regency that is behind Asif Kapadia’s next feature film 2073, Noujaim Films, which was behind Egyptian revolution doc The Square, and The Othrs, the production company behind HBO’s The Vow, are behind the series.

“From the beginning?” Kathy asks the interviewer. “Yes, please,” he responds. Flash back to 1965 Chicago and the rise of the Vandals. “The was the golden age of bike riders,” she says.
Here’s the first trailer for The Bikeriders, writer-director Jeff Nichols’ drama starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy, that premiered at Telluride last week. Have a look at the footage above and the new poster below.
Inspired by Danny Lyon’s book of photography, The Bikeriders follows the fictional Midwestern motorcycle club through the lives of its members. Comer plays Kathy, a strong-willed member of the Vandals who’s married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny (Butler) and recounts the club’s evolution over the course of a decade. It began as a local group of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny (Hardy). But as life in the Vandals gets more dangerous,...

Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Jodie Comer navigate the rough-and-tumble world of a 1960s motorcycle club in the first trailer for 20th Century Studios’ The Bikeriders.
The first spot for the drama feature from filmmaker Jeff Nichols was released Wednesday ahead of its Dec. 1 theatrical release. Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook and Norman Reedus round out the cast for the film that premiered last month at the Telluride Film Festival.
The Bikeriders focuses on Kathy (Comer), a member of the club called the Vandals who recounts her whirlwind marriage to impulsive biker Benny (Butler). 20th Century Studios hits the open road today with The Bikeriders trailer, previewing the film shortly after its Telluride Film Festival screening last week. Amidst plumes of dust and the smell of gasoline, Jeff Nichols directs from a script he wrote inspired by the Danny Lyon book of photography. The Bikeriders is an original story set in the 1960s following the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
Produced by Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, The Bikeriders features a cast that would make any Sons of Anarchy fan drool with envy. Now that John Williams is winding down with his prestigious career, one of the prominent blockbuster composers of the last couple of decades is Hans Zimmer. Most may know him from his work with Christopher Nolan, although Nolan has opted to work with Ludwig Göransson in his last two outings. Zimmer’s collaboration with Nolan on Inception even notably ushered in the trend of the “Bwaaam” musical sting that can be found in most trailers to help intensify and punctuate a dramatic turn.
Although Zimmer has had a career spanning many genres, his work is recognized chiefly from his big-budget sci-fi or action movies. Film Music Reporter has recently revealed that the maestro will be contributing his booming tones to the upcoming Gareth Edwards sci-fi film starring John David Washington titled The Creator. The official second trailer was recently posted online by 20th Century Studios and showcases a bleak future...

Hollywood has found plot lines within the whole “technology gone bad” genre for years, but Gareth Edwards directing a film in which humans go to war against artificial intelligence feels especially pointed in 2023. That’s the plot of the John David Washington-starring flick The Creator, which just released its first trailer. Check it out below.
“The artificial intelligence created to protect us detonated a nuclear warhead in Los Angeles,” a general explains in the trailer. That event kickstarted a war between humans and “programming” that Joshua (Washington) is tasked with ending. As the agent attempts to hunt down The Creator of AI, he also encounters the weapon that the enigmatic figure crafted to end the war completely — except it ends up being a lot more lively and innocent than any gun or bomb could ever be.

Musk, Alex Gibney’s doc about the tech giant Elon Musk, has landed at HBO Documentary Films in North America.
Musk has been described as a “definitive and unvarnished examination” of the controversial and headline-making CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter. (When the doc was first announced, in characteristic fashion, Musk made a comment on Twitter, writing, “It’s a hit piece.”) Gibney, who earned an Oscar for the 2008 film Taxi to the Dark Side, is no stranger to controversial figures, having produced docs on Scientology, Wikileaks and Enron.
Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions produced the film alongside Closer Media, Anonymous Content and Double Agent, which is also financed the project.
HBO and Gibney have a long working relationship, which includes films about the opioid crisis The Crime of the Century, Elisabeth Homes doc The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.
