Fantasy is a genre that is often hard done by the awards groups, particularly the academy. Occasionally, the odd masterpiece such as Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which won 17 Oscars, will break their barrier but, in general, the genre doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Even “Harry Potter” failed to earn an Oscar win and was never nominated in any above-the-line category.
However, Andrew Haigh‘s “All of Us Strangers” is poised to be the next fantastical film that makes the academy’s voters sit up and take notice. Part romance, part ghost story, the film is loosely based on Taichi Yamada‘s 1987 novel “Strangers.” The story follows Andrew Scott‘s Adam as a writer struggling with his latest project who forms a relationship with Paul Mescal‘s Harry. As their relationship progresses, Adam finds himself drawn to his past and visits his hometown only...

‘Jungle Cruise’ Trailer: Disney Turns Its Popular Theme Park Ride Into a Big Screen Family Adventure
“Of all the jungle cruises you could take in the Amazon, this one is undoubtedly the cheapest. But also the most thrilling!” Combining out-and-out thriftiness and a thirst for adventure is, well, not exactly the theme park way (so pricey!), but appears to be the guiding principle of at least one new Disney character with a heart of gold and a desire for a good deal. Based on the popular Disney Parks attraction of the same name, Jaume Collet-Serra’s “Jungle Cruise” spins off some of the sillier elements of the long-running boat ride and attempts to turn them into the kind of frisky, feel-good family adventure the studio has long been known for.
The adventure film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a wily boat captain, with Emily Blunt (literally) on board as a determined explorer on a research mission into the heart of the jungle, where she believes...

Dwayne Johnson is attached to star in the proposed film adaptation of the Disneyland ride "Jungle Cruise" for Disney Pictures.
Following the success of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, studio has been trying to adapt the ride onto film for over a decade now with the last version slated to star "Toy Story" duo Tom Hanks and Tim Allen from a script by Roger S.H. Schulman.
One of the original park's rides, the retro adventure takes people down various famous rivers like the Amazon Nile and Congo rivers where they encounter rhinos, hippos, headhunters and piranhas.
John Requa and Glenn Ficarra ("Focus") are penning the new take's script which is said to go back to "The African Queen"-style period setting. The pair aren't attached to direct at this point. John Davis and John Fox are producing.

There are a few sure ways to get me uninvolved in a story, and prequels are at the top of the list. Considering how prevalent prequels are in our culture these days, it’s worth clarifying why they almost always do nothing for me. I’m sure, for example, I’ll go into more detail on this topic when we discuss Monsters University on the podcast next summer, but now’s just as good a time to get into it. What prequels do chiefly is eliminate tension. For this discussion, we can extend that into midquels, a shudder-worthy term referring to stories that take place within the larger timeline of its predecessor. Whether it’s a prequel or a midquel, such a story features as...

No, this isn’t the plot of the second Toy Story short (here), but Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will be re-uniting for a Jungle Cruise. This will be a feature film based upon the theme park ride at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Disney has been pushing to re-unite the two after the billion-dollar success of Toy Story 3, and Disney felt this was the perfect film to achieve that after attempting to make it after trying ot make it for several years. Roger S.H. Schulman has been hired to pen the script, but no director has been attached.
This continues Disney’s goal of adaptation their theme park rides after the major success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The fourth installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, will be hitting theaters this May.

Here's a story that doesn't involve any toys (inevitable tie-ins aside), but still appeals to the kid in all of us. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have decided to lend way more than their voices and actually work together in the flesh on the live-action feature film Jungle Cruise, based on the popular Disney theme park ride. The project, confirmed by the Walt Disney Studios in a statement to E! News, marks the latest collaboration from the guys who helped bring Woody and Buzz Lightyear to life in the animated Toy Story film franchise. Roger S.H. Schulman, who cowrote Shrek, has signed on to pen the movie's script. No word yet as to when Jungle Cruise will, er, cruise into theaters, but our bags are...

Disney pulled off a seemingly impossible task when it turned an amusement park ride into 2003's box office hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which earned $654 million worldwide. With Pirates heading into it's fourth installment, Disney is looking to other rides and hoping for the same success. Guillermo del Toro announced at last year's San Diego Comic-Con that he was going to write and produce a remake of 2003's The Haunted Mansion, though del Toro says his Haunted Mansion would be "the haunted house movie that a generation remembers and loves".
Del Toro isn't alone. In December of last year, Jon Favreau decided not to direct Iron Man 3 so he could tackle the entirety of Disneyland in the upcoming Magic Kingdom. The next ride to be adapted? The Jungle Cruise ride.

As Deadline first reported and has been lately confirmed by Disney Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have teamed up to launch the live action Jungle Cruise.
It will be for the first time since their voice work in the roles of Woody and Buzz Lightyear in the Pixar and Disney Toy Story trilogy.
Disney is joining the pair together to star in Jungle Cruise, an adaptation based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name. The project has been withdrawn for years with Roger S. Schulman (co-writing duties on Shrek and Jonas) recently brought on-board to write a new draft of the screenplay.

Mark another Disney-ride-turned-movie in the works. As many of you know, Pirates of the Caribbean was based off of a popular ride at the Disney themeparks. Now they’ve decided to test that some concept and bring another popular ride to the big screen with Jungle Cruise. Deadline reports Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are set to team up to star in the film coming from screenwriter Roger S.H. Schulman. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who were recently nominated for an award for The Fighter will be producing the picture. As of right now, there is no director on board.
Hanks and Allen have worked before on the highly successful Toy Story series, so it’s no wonder why Disney wants to bring them back together, but this time in a live-action flick. Read more on Jungle Cruise after the jump.

Roger S.H. Schulman ("Shrek," "Jungle Book 2") has been hired to pen a script for a film adaptation of the Magic Kingdom theme park ride "Jungle Cruise" for Disney Pictures reports Deadline.
The aim is to re-team "Toy Story" duo Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in this live action family film inspired by said ride. The studio has been struggling for years to get the property going, previously "Smallville" showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar were hired to pen a draft back in 2006, but the pairing of Hanks and Allen would immediately push this towards production.
The ride itself has parkgoers traveling the jungle river guided by a riverboat skipper, encountering such wild creatures as piranhas and gorillas during their tour.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman ("The Fighter") will produce, no director has yet been set.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, the voices of Woody and Buzz Lightyear respectively, are reuniting for another Disney-produced feature and the studio’s next adaptation of a theme park ride.
The two are attached to star in a live-action adventure centered around the Magic Kingdom ride “Jungle Cruise,” according to Deadline. Hanks will play a family man and Allen is a tour boat captain. Earlier versions of the story followed a journey into the jungle to find a cure.
Roger S.H. Schulman, who defected to Disney after contributed to the original Shrek, will write an update of the script. A Jungle Cruise movie has been in the works since at least early 2006, between the second and third installments of the ultra-successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which is also based on a Disney theme park ride.

Looks like Disney isn’t quite done with Toy Story veterans Tom Hanks (Woody) and Tim Allen (Buzz) since they’re looking to bring both guys onboard their latest amusement-park-ride-turned-movie, Jungle Cruise. Unlike the Toy Story movies from Pixar, Disney’s Jungle Cruise would follow in the footsteps of other rides-turned-movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and be live action, not animated. There’s no director yet, but Roger S.H. Schulman (Shrek, Jungle Book 2) is writing the script. No word on what the story will be about, though we imagine it’ll have something to do with a jungle cruise that goes wrong. Question is, can you sell Hanks and Allen to kids if they’re not coming in the form of their Woody and Buzz characters, but as a couple of older...

Deadline is reporting that The Walt Disney Company isn't done with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen quite yet. The company is reportedly seeking to re-team the two actors, who voiced Woody and Buzz Lightyear in all three Toy Story movies, in a live-action project called Jungle Cruise.
The movie will be based on the theme park ride of the same name found at Disney's Magic Kingdom. The ride sees park-goers jumping on a riverboat and navigating many rivers as animatronic animals pass by.
The script is being written by Roger S.H. Schulman, who was a writer on Shrek and has penned many of Disney's sequels like Mulan II, The Jungle Book 2, and Bambi II.

After taking on Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear in "Toy Story 3," Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are about to come face-to-face with cobras, crocs and some angry, angry hippos. The Disney dream duo are set to reunite for "Jungle Cruise," a live-action film based on the Magic Kingdom theme park ride.
According to Deadline, Disney has been trying to get "Jungle Cruise" afloat for several years, but it wasn't until the studio decided to bring Hanks and Allen on board that the project began to sail forward. If there's one thing that Disney has learned throughout the decades, it's to not let go of a good acting duo when it happens. Toy Story stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen might end up reuniting for a new Disney film inspired by the classic theme park ride Jungle Cruise. This is a film project that the studio has been wanting to get into production for a long time, with Hanks and Allen attached to the project there's no doubt it will take off.
The film will be a live action film, and the studio has hired Roger S.H. Schulman to write the script and Mandeville's David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing the film they recently produced the Academy Award nominated film The Fighter.
There is no director attached to the project yet, but I love the thought of seeing Hanks and Allen together up on the big screen in a film with a Disney Jungle Crusie setting. There's no details on the story but I'm sure it will end up being a fun adventure film.

Have you ever wanted to see Woody and Buzz team up for a live-action film? Disney is in the business of making your dreams come true, and their latest project is looking to fulfill just that. Deadline reports that the studio is in negotiations with stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to team for Jungle Cruise. Based on, of course, the Magic Kingdom theme park ride, the script will be written by Roger S.H. Schulman (Shrek, sequels to The Jungle Book, Mulan, Fox and the Hound, and Bambi).
There are little details, including no director yet. We know The Fighter producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are also attached. With Pirates Of The Caribbean being a huge cashcow for the studio, it is no surprise they are going after similar territory. Based on Schulman’s credits this will likely be much more family friendly that the Jack Sparrow teen-oriented adventures.

Exclusive: After Toy Story 3 cracked the billion dollar worldwide gross mark and got a Best Picture nomination for Disney, I'm told the studio is making moves to pair stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in Jungle Cruise, the live action film inspired by the venerable Magic Kingdom theme park ride. The studio has hired Roger S.H. Schulman to write a script that's being produced by Mandeville's David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, who themselves are coming off a Best Picture nomination for The Fighter. No director yet, I'm told. Schulman has written on such films as Shrek and Jungle Book 2. Disney has been trying to get Jungle Cruise out of dry dock for several years, but the combination of Hanks and Allen in a family film makes this the equivalent of an E-ticket for a family-themed film. Hanks just direct Larry Crowne, starring with Julia Roberts and producing with Playtone partner Gary Goetzman.
