Sonu Nigam Says “Humne Dekhi Hai Na Blue Films, Gaali Di Na?” Over Rappers Using ‘Raunchy Lyrics,’ Is He Hinting At Honey Singh, Badshah’s Alleged Volume 1? (Photo Credit: Instagram; Facebook)
The Indian Rap scene is one that should be lauded for the kind of improvement it has witnessed over the past many years. From Baba Sehgal to Badshah, from Devang Patel to Dino James, from Honey Singh 1.0 to Honey Singh 3.0, we’ve witnessed an inflow of many brilliant artists, and Sonu Nigam is in complete agreement with the same.
Recently, Javed Akhtar talked in detail about how the dependence on rap songs to revive classic Hindi songs, giving a funny analogy of having Psychedelic lights in Ajanta or disco music in the Taj Mahal. I’m not saying Javed Ji is wrong because he’s specifically talking about the usage of rap in remixes.
But Sonu Nigam’s perspective...

Rapper Baba Sehgal says the industry should stop recreating old classic film soundtracks and that the industry is lately more of copywood than Bollywood.
"It's time Bollywood stop recreating/remixing old classic film soundtracks. There's no harm in recreating a song but the quality, instrumentation and the output in doing so is sad and pathetic. Is it because there is no creativity left or is it because they want to encash on super popularity of the old songs?" Baba, who rose as a rap artist in the early 1990s, tweeted on Sunday.

Popular Hindi-rapper and actor Baba Sehgal, who recently appeared in the horror-comedy web series titled 'Bhoot Purva', says the Indian pop music has changed over a period of time so much so that it is a constant task to stay relevant as an artist; especially in a space where Bollywood music that does not celebrate original music as much is overshadowing the 'indie' space.
The "Ice Ice Baby" famed singer told Ians: "I am not a big believer of Bollywood music because people are more into copying or recreating the old songs rather than writing original songs."
"Why am I an artist if I am not creating original stuff? Some of the music directors are good, but then they also follow what producers want, and frankly, if a producer does not have strong music sense, they will not understand the power of original music," said the artiste.
Why doesn't he work in Bollywood?...

In Kajol’s upcoming movie, Helicopter Eela, the actress plays a character that was once an inspiring singer in the 1990s but now is a helicopter mother who even goes to college with her son played by Riddhi Sen.
For a very cool scene from the character’s singing days, the makers of the film roped in singers Anu Malik, Shaan, Ila Arun and Baba Sehgal for special appearances.
Director Pradeep Sarkar explained, “Since the role spans from the ’90s to 2018, with Kajol playing an aspiring singer, we wanted to recreate the music scene of that decade for one of the most important sequences. And since it was vital that we keep it authentic, we decided to get in touch with these four industry stalwarts who graciously agreed to be a part of the film. The Bank Chor trailer had many unsurprising elements to it – Riteish Deshmukh doing a comedy again, Vivek Anand Oberoi following him, the fact that it is called Bank Chor, etc – but there’s one element that surely managed to surprise shock people: a Baba Sehgal cameo.
Unofficially the world’s worst special appearance ever, India’s favourite superstar rapper Baba Sehgal, who plays himself in the movie, has also created what could easily be called the world’s maddest rap song ever.
The song, with an innovative hookline that goes, ‘Bank Chor, *gibberish*, Bank Chor’, is a rap number that was created and sung by Baba impromptu during the shoot of Bank Chor (and it shows). 24 hours later, he turned it into a song with lyrics no one can get into their heads and music that no one can get out of their heads.

Two days ago, Y-Films launched the trailer of Bank Chor to no fanfare whatsoever. Barring Riteish Deshmukh and 2-3 of his Twitter friends, no one was excited about another film starring him in the lead. There was also no press conference or event because clearly, the makers of this “comedy” have no money left (#haisiyat). So in a desperate bid to grab attention, Y-Films has come up with the dumbest marketing idea ever thought of within the whole of Andheri: An Imaandaar trailer.
A logic-defying, sense-defying and completely unnecessary idea that will almost certainly backfire and ruin any chance Y-Films had of getting people to a theater, the Imaandaar trailer reveals everything about the movie that most studios Never do… imaandaari se. Bank robbery films have always been cool, sexy & dangerous. And the legacy of the Dhoom franchise is testimony to that. Now Y-Films, the youth wing of Yash Raj Films, is all set to destroy that with their new feature, Bank Chor.
The film’s trailer launched today, introduces the worst bank chor Ever: Champak Chandrakant Chiplunkar, a simple Marathi manoos played by Riteish Deshmukh who picks the worst day possible to rob a bank. To make matters worse, he recruits 2 idiots from Delhi who’ve never even picked a pocket in their lives. Top that with the craziest bunch of hostages including a high-strung housewife, a hyper chef, a possibly undercover cop… and Baba Sehgal [yeah, ‘Thanda Thanda Pani’ wala!]. How could it get any worse, right?
Wrong! Enter tough as nails supercop, Cbi officer Amjad Khan played by Vivek Oberoi, who shoots first and interrogates later. And a mad media circus outside led by...

Mumbai, June 28: Gone are the days when independent musicians or bands were on centrestage and music lovers revelled in songs like "Mai ri" and "Sayonee". Now, "manipulated" Bollywood hit numbers not only whet the appetite of listeners but also overshadow non-film music and budget constraint makes survival tougher, musicians say.
The 1990s were ripe for music bands and independent musicians. The era saw the emergence of bands like Euphoria, Silk Route, Aryan, Junoon and Stereo Nation which carved a niche for themselves.
During the same period, pop singers like Alisha Chinnoy, Falguni Pathak, Lucky Ali, Bali Brahmbhatt, Shaan, Daler Mehdi, Adnan Sami, Mika and Baba Sehgal rose on the music firmament and earned name and fame.

New Delhi, Oct 7: Remember the last time you walked into a music store to buy a pop music album? The era of the 1990s may have seen an upsurge in private albums by singers like Baba Sehgal, Anamika, Shaan and Jasbir Jassi, but their charm and popularity seem to have faded over the years.
A few artists blame the audience's preference for the change while others point fingers at music companies, saying these are hesitant to invest in such albums.
'First we need to address the question whether the audience wants such music or not. The singers do come up with albums, but there are no sales,' music composer-lyricist Prasoon Joshi told Ians.

You could call it a 'desi' version of Bob Dylan's social poetry set to music - novel to the ears. Contemporary urban music in India is drawing its soul from tradition, narratives from socio-political circumstances and beats from Western pop, rock and funk genres. Journalist-turned-Bollywood composer and writer Neelesh Misra, who released his band's new album, 'Rewind: Nine Lost Memories', at a concert in the capital Wednesday has combined the north Indian storytelling traditions of Dastangoi with funk rock in his new album. The album tells the story of an upwardly mobile small-town young man in a metro - who suffers the pangs of love, loss, loneliness and the blues that come with a clash of values. 'I would describe my music as 'funk kissagoi (storytelling)', a modern take on the medieval story telling tradition of Dastangoi of Islamic origin. It is a meeting point of Dastangoi and contemporary funk-rock,...

May 20, 2010:Mrs. and Mr. Sharma Allahabadwale got going from 17 May. The cast and crew assembled together to celebrate the first telecast at Mumbai’s Bjn Banquets.
One was surprised to see the presence of actors Baba Sehgal and Abhishek Avasthi, who were entertaining Sab viewers at the same slot just a week ago with their show Jugni Chali Jalandhar. The struggling DJ’s show had to make way for Mrs. and Mr. Allahabadwale.
It’s never a nice feeling to see your show come to an end. ‘Jugni’, Muskaan Mehani, claimed to have cried for six hours. It must have been emotional day.

March 12, 2010: The mercury is rising and so are tales of tantrum from tellyland. Under the gun is actor-singer Baba Sehgal who allegedly is giving a tough time to one and all on the sets of Sab show Jugni chali Jalandhar. Apparently, a few of his erstwhile colleagues too are said to have taken a cue from his book.
A little birdie from the sets informs, “Baba Sehgal has been causing a lot of grief for a long time. He’s very egoistic. He thinks he’s the biggest superstar on the show. He’s been reporting late to work and even takes his own time to get ready for the shot. Because of him,.
