The woman who launched one of the world’s most esteemed digital media brands has decided to move on. Arianna Huffington, who in 2004 founded The Huffington Post, will leave the company to focus on her health and wellness startup Thrive.
Huffington announced her departure from her eponymous publication through an article in the Wall Street Journal. “I really thought I could do both [HuffPo and Thrive], but as we started building [Thrive] up, I realized that it really needed my full attention,” she said. “It is important to know when one door closes and another opens, and I felt that moment had arrived.”
Huffington’s departure from HuffPo follows the exists of several of her deputies over the past year. The Huffington Post is restructuring its video operation, and as a result, it will decrease its investment in one of its most ambitious original programming experiments. According to a company memo obtained by Politico, HuffPo is consolidating its four video units into one, and the biggest casualty of that shift will be daily streaming program HuffPost Live.
HuffPost Live won’t go away completely, but it will no longer maintain its eight-hours-per-day broadcast schedule. Instead, it will only show up for major news events, and HuffPo will instead dedicate more resources toward shareable video, documentaries, and original series. When Politico reached out to HuffPo founder Arianna Huffington, she declined to comment on whether the restructuring will involve personnel cuts, though she did say that "HuffPost Live remains an integral part of HuffPost."

A long-tenured Huffington Post employee who served as one of the chief architects of the publication’s video presence is on his way out. Roy Sekoff, who has spent the past decade at Arianna Huffington’s digital news source, will depart the company, according to a memo Huffington sent to HuffPo employees.
Capital New York, which first reported the news of Sekoff’s departure, also reprinted Huffington’s message to her employees in full. “It’s time for him to, as he put it to me, ‘stop dancing to the rhythms of the 24/7 news cycle,’ she wrote. “After years of cross-country commuting, he has decided to spend less time on planes and more time helping his daughter with her homework, while figuring out what he wants to do next.”
Sekoff has been with HuffPo since its inception, but in recent years, he has been most closely associated with the company’s digital video operation.

The Huffington Post has a new interview series all about Vine stars. On September 15, 2015, the publication giant and burgeoning online video brand released HuffPost 6x60, hosted by Vine star Chaz Smith.
HuffPost 6.x60 is a weekly web series where Smith provides what a release calls a “360-degree look at the lives of ten 6-second stars in just 60 seconds.” Ten episodes of the series will debut over the next few weeks, with Smith sitting down with various digital stars who found success on the Twitter-owned Vine app.
In the premiere episode of HuffPost 6x60 (which is actually more like 180 seconds in length), Smith interviews Viner and 20-year-old singer Summer Boissiere (aka Summerella), who boasts 1.3 million followers on the short-form video platform alone. Boissiere rose to Vine popularity in summer 2014, and has since leveraged that influence to release two hit singles, “11 Something” and “Hide & Seek.”

“HuffPost Show” hosts Marc Lamont Hill and Roy Sekoff gave new “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah some advice on dealing with media backlash in wake of the controversy surrounding a few jokes he made on Twitter as early as 2011. “The media cycle is so fast paced, and people pounce on stuff. There’s a pile on effect that happens, so you can go from being a star to the next day being a villain. Sometimes you gotta work through it, and tweet through it, and a wait a week or two, and people forget about it,” Hill told TheWrap in a.

Are you itching to become the next George Will, Keith Olbermann, or Michelle Malkin? Well, Arianna Huffington has a proposition for you tied to the launch of HuffPost Live 3,2,1…, an opinion site that goes live on August 13. Her AOL-owned company said today that it is inviting visitors to audition to become regular contributors by sending in videos “sounding off on what they are passionate about, what ticks them off, or what they’d like to see the network cover.” Those submitting the most “engaging” videos [not necessarily the most thoughtful or well argued ones, I guess] will be invited to to become regular guests. “HuffPost Live is all about engagement and making the HuffPost community an integral part of the dynamic, ongoing conversation that will be the heart and soul of the network,” Huffington says. “And we wanted to have a launch as innovative as the project itself, as opposed to a traditional top-down approach.” Does that mean viewers will vote...
