5 Best Christmas Horror Movies(Photo Credit –IMDb)
When one thinks of Christmas, horror, and gore are generally not the first things that come to mind. Christmas is all about having fun. It’s full of life and color, and identifying it as scary would be out of place. And while Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” does make a perfect example of a ‘scary Christmas,’ it does not qualify as a traditional, spine-chilling horror movie. But contrary to popular narrative — certain media out there does it, and does it well. Think of the latest “Fargo” episode that runs a Halloween theme and blends it with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
So, the appeal behind it is understandable. This is why we have curated a list of the best Christmas horror movies you can enjoy for a change of pace from all the happy and sparkly traditions.

1984 was a good year for slashers. Not only did Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) claw his way onto the big screen for the first time, Jason Voorhees (Ted White) also burst through windows and slashed through teens in the franchise high Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. While Wes Craven was releasing his genre-defining classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, another iconic killer was crawling out of a snow-lined chimney. Charles E. Sellier Jr.’s Silent Night, Deadly Night treated audiences to Billy Chapman (Robert Brian Wilson), an ax-wielding mad-man dressed as a sinister Santa Claus. This exploitative film quickly sparked controversy from horrified parents worried that their children might glimpse the jolly gift-giver dishing out bloody punishment instead of holiday cheer. An avalanche of pearl-clutching soon followed, including angry letters and protests eventually resulting in Tri-star pulling the film after only a few weeks. Despite this chilly reaction, the film...

Last week, The Arrow in the Head Show hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek prepared for the holidays by taking in a viewing of the 2006 version of Black Christmas. Now that we’re heading into Christmas weekend, The Arrow and Lance continue their holiday viewings with the 1984 slasher classic Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here). To find out what they think of the movie, check out the video embedded above!
Directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr. from a screenplay by Michael Hickey (with Paul Caimi receiving story credit), Silent Night, Deadly Night has the following synopsis: Bearing the emotional scars of a young boy who has seen his mother and father brutally murdered by a savage killer in a Santa Claus costume, 18-year-old Billy explodes into a lethal frenzy – he’s asked to put on a Santa Claus suit himself to entertain the customers of the department store where he works.

Listening to the lyrics of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town," it's easy to read a menacing tone from its warnings. Saint Nick sees you when you're sleeping. He even knows your sins. So you better watch out ... or else.
The idea of a less jolly Santa is a wellspring of humor and broken spines in Tommy Wirkola's "Violent Night," which sees David Harbour's Santa Claus doling out "season's beatings" in defense of a child on his coveted "good" list. As "Violent Night" steers its sleigh into theaters this week, moviegoers are treated to the sight of a hammer-swinging, street-fighting Father Christmas, bedecked in Celtic tattoos and crushing the heads and hearts of numerous henchmen commanded by John Leguizamo's holiday-hating mercenary Jimmy "Scrooge" Martinez. Pat Casey and Josh Miller's script ensures that nearly every holiday element finds its gruesome employment at the hands of Santa or Scrooge: tinsel becomes a garrote,...

Punishment is absolute, punishment is good.” And let’s not forget, Santy Claus only brings presents to them that’s been good all year. All the other ones, all the naughty ones, he punishes! What about you? You been good all year?

If it's one thing all horror fans understand, it's that every month is a good month for watching scary movies. Sure, we often like to ramp up the on-screen scares come October, but the frights still continue throughout the rest of the year. And while the holiday season brings with it a lot to celebrate and be thankful for, there's also quite a lot that still goes bump in the night.
In honor of the various terrors that occur every December — i.e. every single trip you will take to a shopping mall in the coming weeks — here is a list of the best horror movies available to stream this month. Consider it your holiday gift guide for movies you can watch after the family has gone home and you are left to piece your sanity back together. The holidays may only come around once a year, but terror lasts forever.

The 1984 classic Silent Night, Deadly Night (watch it Here) and the 1974 classic Black Christmas (watch that one Here) are two horror films that many genre fans make sure to watch every holiday season – so the folks at Gutter Garbs have very wisely put imagery promoting both films together for their “Holidays of Horror Double Feature” collection. A T-shirt, a hoodie, and a poster showing Silent Night, Deadly Night and Black Christmas double feature artwork can be purchased at This Link – and you can take a look at those items at the bottom of this article.

A confession: I’m not wild about Christmas. As somebody who gets unnecessarily neurotic about whether or not everybody else is having a good time, the onset of shopping crowds, traveling woes, gift-buying difficulties, and food-related malaise often overwhelms my delicate constitution. (Also, the constant claptrap about the War on Christmas doesn’t make the season any more fun.)
But there are a handful of Christmas traditions I have adopted over the years that have made the last six weeks of the year something close to bearable. The cornerstone of those rituals is the annual viewing of Silent Night, Deadly Night,...

At the end of Silent Night, Deadly Night, young Ricky inherits a Caldwell family heirloom; the blood-soaked axe that his big brother picked up from Ira’s Toys, and used to cut off the heads of humans and snowmen alike. Given the cliffhanger of a finale, not to mention the fact that the controversy surrounding Silent Night, Deadly Night provided the film with press on all the major news networks, it was only natural that a sequel wasn’t going to be far behind. This is the horror genre, after all.
Silent Night, Deadly Night’s director Charles Sellier was approached by Live Entertainment to helm Part 2 of the holiday horror story, a job that he couldn’t in good conscience sign up for. Sellier never expected that the...

★☆☆☆☆It's good to be reminded every once in a while that critics aren't always correct. On the other hand, however, you have efforts as abysmal as Silent Night (2012), a remake of director Charles E. Sellier Jr.'s cult schlocker Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) so loose that it's practically falling apart. This new interpretation by Steven C. Miller, starring Malcolm McDowell and Jamie King, is so gratuitous you could be forgiven for asking who (even amongst hardcore gore fans) would find it entertaining. It's Christmas Eve and someone dressed as Saint Nick is murdering the nice (or rather naughty) townsfolk of Cryer, Wisconsin.

An impending storm coincides with the melting of the arctic ice caps (and the thawing of some mythical creatures), which changes the world of the Bathtub forever. Five On Film is an occasional feature on “Hey You Geeks!!” where directors, writers, actors or just plain awesome advocates of geek culture are asked five questions in line with the theme of their current body of work. In this edition, I chat with Silent Night director Steven C. Miller on the topic of Christmas movies.
Miller’s Silent Night is loosely based on the 1984 Charles Sellier Jr. cult classic Silent Night, Deadly Night. The definition of a slasher film varies depending on who you ask, but in general, it contains several specific traits that feed into the genre’s formula. Author Vera Dika rather strictly defines the sub-genre in her book Games of Terror by only including films made between 1978 and 1984. In other words, she saw it as a movement. When someone describes Brick, they don’t define it as a noir, but instead neo-noir . In other words, it’s a modern motion picture that prominently utilizes elements of film noir, but with updated themes, content, style, visual elements or media that were absent in those from the 1940s and 1950s. So does one consider Scream a slasher film or a neo-slasher, or simply put, a modern slasher?
Some consider Thirteen Women to be the earliest slasher – released all the way back in 1932. Personally I think that is rubbish. Thirteen Women is more like Desperate Housewives on sedatives.

With the Screamfest Horror Film Festival hosting the U.S. premiere of Steven C. Miller's latest feature, Under the Bed, on Tuesday, October 16th, at 7:30 Pm, we have a new still for you as well as word from Miller and producer Will Clevinger.
"This film will take you back to your childhood and then rip it apart limb by limb," director Miller, who previously helmed Automaton Transfusion, The Aggression Scale and the upcoming Silent Night, stated of Under The Bed.
“It’s a movie that has its roots in films like Gremlins, The Goonies, Poltergeist, Little Monsters, and Et,” he continued, “where kids are dealing with the unknown, just like those great 80's genre mash-ups that had you wondering if they were rated PG or R. Only this one was done on a micro-budget and with 100% practical [effects]. I’m excited to unleash our creature.” (You can see a...

When I first heard that the director of “Automaton Transfusion” was embarking on a “loose” remake of Charles E. Sellier Jr.’s 1984 classic “Silent Night, Deadly Night”, I wasn’t too thrilled. However, two things have since changed my mind. First, “The Aggression Scale”, Miller’s intense revenge-oriented endeavor, is seriously badass. Second, a recent viewing of the original “Silent Night” made me realize that this story might be ripe for a re-telling. Don’t get me wrong — the original is still a blast, but I don’t think a remake is going to hurt anything. If you’re unfamiliar with the storyline, read this synopsis: The slashing begins on a snowy Christmas Eve in Cryer, Wi. The normally quiet town is bustling with activity as the the residents are getting ready for the big day. The events take place around the towns annual Santa Parade, which has brought a...

With Steven C. Miller’s slasher Santa flick Silent Night having wrapped last month in Winnipeg, we chatted with the director regarding the feature, as we also did with makeup guru Vincent Guastini, both of whom gave us the lowdown on the FX-heavy flick, its slated release date, and more.
“We shot it in seventeen days,” Miller, whose feature The Aggression Scale released earlier this week to video via Anchor Bay, told us of Silent Night, which stars veteran actor Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King (Sin City), Jamie Kennedy (Scream), Brendan Fehr (Final Destination), Lisa Marie (Sleepy Hollow), Donal Logue (Shark Night 3D) and Ellen Wong and serves as a loose remake of Charles E. Sellier, Jr.’s controversial 1984 slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night. The originator revolved around an unhinged teenager who embarks on an axe murder spree while dressed as Saint Nick.

With principal photography having just kicked off on Silent Night, Steven C. Miller’s Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, in Winnipeg, the director phoned us from the set to chat about his killer Santa flick.
“This one’s going to be dark,” said Miller (pictured right) of his approach to the remake of Charles E. Sellier, Jr.’s controversial 1984 slasher film, which revolved around an unhinged teenager who embarks on an axe murder spree while dressed as Saint Nick. “I love the original movie, and I love the mean spirit of it. I felt like it took itself pretty seriously, and while there is (going to be) some dark humor in this one, we are handling it ‘straight’ and it’s definitely a horror film and it’s definitely a ‘Santa with an Axe’ film. Variety are reporting that director Steven C. Miller (Automaton Transfusion, The Aggression Scale) has been approached to helm a remake of Charles E. Sellier, Jr.’s controversial Christmas-themed slasher movie Silent Night, Deadly Night which, in 1984, was protested and vilified by parents who perceived the film as a threat to the wholesome image of Santa Claus.
Malcolm McDowell is attached to star as Sheriff Cooper, a small-town cop tasked with stopping the killer who terrorizes a remote Midwestern town on Christmas Eve; and Anchor Bay have already snapped up Us distribution rights with a Christmas 2012 release date in mind!

Charles E. Sellier Jr's classic Chrimbo horror flick 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' is the latest in the long line of slasher movies set to get the remake treatment. 'Automaton Transfusion' and 'Scream of the Banshee' director Steven C. Miller has been lined up to helm the remake project, penned by executive producer Jayson Rothwell, and is set to start rolling next month in Canada. Brit actor Malcolm McDowell ('A Clockwork Orange', 'Rob Zombie's Halloween') has already been tapped to star in the redo as Sheriff Cooper and Anchor Bay have acquired the distribution rights. Now we just have to hope that the reworked killer Kris Kringle flick will be more of a solid effort that its seasonal counterpart remake of 'Black Christmas' attempted back in 2006....

Some will tuck in, hiding in the warmth of their homes and others will challenge the winter wonderland head-on. Here are some “inspirational” films to make tackling the winter doldrums just a little more fun. The theme in this list is what kind of beasts may lurk within that icy tundra near and afar?

Released in 1980 and once again we have an unstable main character who puts on the red suit and beard and gives the naughty what they deserve-and we’re not talking about lumps of coal. Originally unleashed back in 1984, “Silent Night, Deadly Night” was the subject of great controversy due to its premise of a serial killer dressed as Santa Claus, with outraged authorities and parents protesting its Us release. The film encountered similar moral panic in the UK, where the ever-wise British Board of Film Classification refused it a certificate, effectively banning it. Inevitably, this has led to it building up a considerable cult following over the years, with many fans considering it one of the better films of the golden age of mid-80s slashers, and with it inspiring no less than 4 sequels of variable quality and tenuous linkage. Now, the film is finally available on region 2 DVD in its most complete form, just in time for Christmas, thanks to Arrow Video, coming with a jolly host of extras including an interview with director Charles E. Sellier Jr. and a booklet containing various pieces of production information.
