"This is insane! It really was the Bronx Zoo!" Another look back documentary heading to streaming soon. Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a documentary series titled Bronx Zoo '90: Crime, Chaos & Baseball, which is a real mouthful title for this sports history mini-series. It's about the 1990 New York Yankees, which not only was one of the worst years in Yankees history, but one of the most controversial with all kinds of problems with players, management, and beyond. Now that title makes sense! Based on a series of articles from New York Post columnist Joel Sherman, this docu series covers team owner George Steinbrenner’s removal from baseball for trying to buy info on Dave Winfield, and every other mishap and incident. Series interviews include Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Dave Lapoint, Kevin Maas, Jim Leyritz, Jesse Barfield, former Yankees manager Buck Showalter, Yankees' announcer Michael Kay, Brian Cashman,...

It’s a zoo out there. In 1990, the New York Yankees were a disaster; these were not the Derek Jeter years.
With a 67-95 record, 1990 was the first time in 24 years the Bronx Bombers finished in last place in the division, a whopping 21 games behind the rival the Boston Red Sox. It was the team’s worst record since 1912, two years before Babe Ruth even entered Major League Baseball (and eight years before he joined the Yankees). How bad were the 1990 Yankees? They threw a no-hitter and lost.
A new docuseries coming soon to Peacock, “Bronx Zoo ’90: Crime, Chaos, and Baseball,” gives the abysmal season a “The Last Dance” spin, covering both the drama on the field and off. Like what? Well, there was the time when Yankee owner George Steinbrenner paid a notorious gambler to dig up dirt on superstar player Dave Winfield. That gambler is interviewed in...

What do Bryan Cranston, Sebastian Maniscalco, Shohei Ohtani, Humphrey Bogart and hot dogs all have in common?
Major League Baseball hopes that they’ll all be getting you excited about America’s pastime.
2023 is shaping up to be a year of change for the league, thanks to things it can control, like a range of major new rule changes meant to speed up the game, as well as some things that it can’t, like the challenges facing the regional sports network business.
The league thinks that now is a good time for a brand reset, thanks in part to those new rules that it hopes will add more “excitement” and “athleticism” to quicker-paced games, according to executives.
Hence the Breaking Bad star Cranston, sitting in an empty theater, telling viewers that the new rules will “free up the players to put on a show”; or the comedian Maniscalco touting...

Francisco Lindor's daughter is an attention magnet in the great tradition of Riley Curry. The shortstop for the New York Mets brought his toddler, Kalina, to the press conference that followed a game against the San Diego Padres on Oct. 8.
In the middle of the postgame interview, Kalina called out to Mets manager Buck Showalter, who she apparently has an affinity for. "Papa! Buck," she said from Lindor's lap. "Buck, yeah. Buck left. She loves Buck," Lindor explained, to audible laughter from reporters in the room. "Safe to say Francisco Lindor's daughter likes Buck," the official MLB account tweeted.

There may be no player in pro baseball who is easier to root for than the R.A. Dickey. The Mets knuckleballer continued his amazing run of dominance last night at Citi Field, becoming the first pitcher since 1988 to pitch back-to-back one-hitters. Dickey has put together five straight starts (42 2/3 innings) in which he's allowed no earned runs and struck out at least eight - an Mlb record.
I was at Citi Field last night, got to saw Dickey baffle the Baltimore Orioles while striking out a career-high 13. It was a thing of beauty. After the game Dickey gave an on-field interview that was broadcast stadium-wide to adoring Mets fans, who are suddenly no-hitter crazed.
Dickey, 37, spoke with genuine humility, telling his fans that he can appreciate his success, because he's seen the other side of things. He didn't specify whether he was referring to the doldrums of baseball, or of life,...

Yes, that's John Kruk. Pretty good match, huh?
Of course, even the slovenly Kruk is way classier than Dave could ever imagine, but I think there's a pretty strong resemblence.
Consider what Orioles manager Buck Showalter, who used to work with Krukie at Espn, had to say about Kruk.
"Have you seen the rigors of Espn at 3 o'clock in the morning when a guy blows a save on the west coast and you have to stick around for another two hours? And then try to go through the Taco Bell with John Kruk? That ain't fun. I mean, basically, we don't have any taco salad back there with John Kruk. Everybody should, at some point in their life, you wanna think about tough times, is being around him at 2 o'clock in the morning when he's hungry. That's not good."
