The chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine in The Idea of You is truly rare. The pair found something exceptionally unique through the process of filming the project; companionship. They found a friendship and understanding that few co-stars have encountered throughout their career and this is reflected in the interviews they give.

The Idea of You has been the talk of the town ever since its trailer was released. This is not surprising considering its unique premise and the dedicated fans of the book. Despite its mixed reactions, the film has managed to do excellently, receiving gleaming reviews from critics as well as fans. With the way it has been perceived, it is only natural for the book to gather attention as well.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galatzine in The Idea of You
The movie strayed away from the source material quite a bit. Not only was the entire ending of the story changed, but Anne Hathaway’s character, Solène, was also fundamentally different. One would assume it would get a lot of hate from fans because of this. However, such was not the case.
It would seem that the intention behind the changes has led to a more supportive reaction from fans.

“The Idea of You” is like Taylor Swift’s “Illicit Affairs.”
Several TV shows and films have featured forbidden romance, but this film included a May-December romance and character exploration uniquely.
Varied audiences will appreciate the stellar performances of Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.
Adapted from Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, the film follows Solène (Anne Hathaway), a divorced single mom who is turning 40 and seeking direction in her life.
The film’s heart is about her self-reflection and unlikely romance with the 24-year-old lead singer of August Moon, Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine).
Solène had hoped for a weekend alone but got roped into taking her teenage daughter Izzy (Ella Rubin) and her friends to Coachella when her ex-husband, Daniel, bailed on taking them.
In an adorable meet-cute, Solène accidentally ended up in Hayes’ trailer, thinking it was the VIP restroom, and immediately formed a connection with the hunky Brit,...

Spoiler warning for those that haven’t read or watched The Idea of You.
Anne Hathaway’s rom-com, The Idea of You, co-starring Nicholas Galatzine, has managed to impress fans of the genre. Hathaway’s pairing with Galatzine intrigued fans, in addition to the beloved reputation of its source novel by Robinne Lee. Fans are already raving about the film on social media.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galatzine in The Idea of You
As expected in literary adaptations, the cinematic version takes various liberties and changes from the novel. But surprisingly, the film changed the sad ending of the book to an optimistic one. While Lee did not feel betrayed by the ending, she understood why the makers went for a more traditional Hollywood ending.

Romance is complicated. The meshing together of two or more people isn’t designed to be a smooth process and art has reflected that for generations, most recently in the new Amazon MGM rom-com “The Idea of You”. In honor of the film dropping on Prime Video, IndieWire has compiled a list of the best age-gap romance films to enjoy after watching Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine’s jaunt within the genre. From the best-selling novel by Robinne Lee, “The Idea of You” follows a 40-year-old gallery owner and divorceé, who, after escorting her daughter to Coachella, ends up in a whirlwind romance with the 24-year-old lead singer of a famous boy band. The book was adapted for the screen by Michael Showalter, as well as Jennifer Westfeldt, who’s dabbled in complicated romances in the past with films like “Kissing Jessica Stein” and “Friends With Kids”.

Fiona Apple is the go-to songwriter for exorcising your romantic demons, ruing the ones you loved, the ones who didn’t love you back, the ones you pushed away amid yet another freefall of your own design. She’s also the go-to singer for three studio comedy auteurs: Michael Showalter, Judd Apatow, and Paul Feig.
Apple’s songs have featured in three of their films — Apple wrote the original song “Dull Tool” for Apatow’s “This Is 40,” capturing a decades-long marriage at its breaking point. Elsewhere, her epic ball of romantic resignation “Cosmonauts,” off the 2020 album “Fetch the Bolt Cutters,” was also originally meant for that film. Meanwhile, her classic cabaret-inspired love song “Paper Bag,” about having too much emotional baggage to enter into a new relationship she wants “so bad, oh it kills,” featured in Feig’s “Bridesmaids” in a montage of Annie (Kristen Wiig) making cupcakes as...

In 2022, Nicholas Galitzine was on the main stage of “Coachella”, flanked by bandmates Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham Jr., Vik White, and Dakota Adan.
Surrounding them were 5,000 screaming fans, chanting at the top of their lungs, “August Moon! August Moon! August Moon!” For most of the guys, who are professional dancers, this was somewhat familiar, they’d performed for much bigger audiences, supporting stars like Beyoncé and Britney Spears, and dancing on national TV. But for Galitzine, this was all brand new.
Under the spotlight, the actor was playing the role of a world famous pop star — one fifth of a massively successful (fictional) boy band. So while the crowd was real, it helped that they weren’t actually in Indio, California for their set, but a couple thousand miles away on a chilly December morning in Atlanta, filming scenes for the Prime Video rom-com film, The Idea of You.

The Idea of You starts like any other romance movie: A boy and girl meet, fall in love, and maybe have a swoon-worthy ending. But what happens when the girl is a 40-year-old woman, the boy is a 24-year-old boy band member, and fame and public scrutiny bring obstacles to the journey that might’ve been leading to a happy ending?
The Idea of You centers on 40-year-old art gallery owner Solène Marchand (Anne Hathaway) who, after being forced to take her daughter and friends to Coachella after her ex-husband bails on the plans, unexpectedly meets Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), British front man to the uber-popular boy band August Moon. Despite Solène being unfazed by the pandemonium and allure of the young singers, their meet-cute eventually turns into a steamy romance, but not without the hiccups of fame and attention that come as a result.

The Idea of You Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin, and Reid Scott
Director: Michael Showalter
The Idea of You Movie Review Out ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
What’s Good: The chemistry between Hathaway and Galitzine is unique, and their characters’ relationship feels genuine in the film.
What’s Bad: The film feels outdated in its concepts, as the One Direction angle has not been popular for quite a while. An update to the idea would have made the film better.
Loo Break: The film’s length feels quite right, but the movie’s start feels a bit too redundant, and the same happens towards the end.
Watch or Not?: Watch if you are a fan of romantic comedies, but be ready for this to be more drama than comedy.

It feels like suddenly Nicholas Galitzine is everywhere.
The 29-year-old English actor had a runaway streaming hit last year with “Red, White & Royal Blue,” starring as a prince caught up in a closeted gay romance with an American politico (Taylor Zakhar Perez). Now, he’s a full-blown romantic drama lead in “The Idea of You,” starring as Hayes Campbell, the frontman of a One Direction-inspired pop group who falls for a divorced single mother, Solène, played by Anne Hathaway. Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Jennifer Westfeldt, the film situates us in the moony dazedness of new love that becomes Solène’s fixation. In an era where romantic comedies strive to distinguish themselves, Prime Video’s latest offering, provocatively titled “The Idea of You”, emerges as a captivating blend of charm and depth. Anchored by the always enchanting Anne Hathaway, this film ventures beyond the genre’s typical confines, exploring themes of maturity and self-discovery with a deft touch that resonates with audiences seeking more than just surface-level entertainment.
Star-Studded Performances
Anne Hathaway delivers a compelling performance as a gallery owner navigating the complexities of life in her forties. Her character’s encounter with a boy-band singer, portrayed with youthful zeal by Nicholas Galitzine, sets the stage for an unexpected connection that defies easy categorization. Galitzine, despite being a newcomer to the rom-com genre with only a handful of roles under his belt, holds his own against Hathaway’s seasoned prowess. Yet, it is Hathaway’s portrayal that elevates the narrative, infusing it...

Some have dubbed it “the Harry Styles fan-fiction movie”, while others are already calling it the new Notting Hill.
The Idea of You, the latest film from The Big Sick director Michael Showalter centres around a passionate, if a little vanilla, age-gap relationship between a forty year old divorcee from LA and an internationally renowned boy-band singer in his early twenties.
Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine are Solène and Haze, two star-crossed lovers who after a meet-cute at the Coachella music festival – she is there to chaperone her teenage daughter and her friends, while he is headlining the main stage – can’t seem to get enough of each other. But while Solene repeatedly rejects Haze’s advances invoking their 15 year age-gap, Haze is convinced that she is the woman for him and refuses to take no for an answer.

In the 1990s and 2000s, May (and specifically Memorial Day) typically marked the beginning of Summer Movie Season. Multiplexes nationwide were packed to the emergency exits with big names, big explosions and (presumably) big box office. The film industry has changed since then, obviously, and summer no longer packs the same high-octane punch that it once did. But in this evolution, release schedule space has opened up for a stellar month of Don’t-Miss Indies titles.

The Idea of You should never work as well as it should, but the rom-com does. A whimsical tale full of heart, Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine is an addictive, often hilarious, and meaningful addition to the genre that has made a comeback of late. This is an old-fashioned effort that swoons the audience’s expectations to its heart’s contents.
That’s mostly because it rides the back of its leads, whose chemistry should come with a warning because they burn up the screen. Despite the 12-year age gap between them (and it helps Hathaway has the same ageless disease Paul Rudd finds himself afflicted with), you never question the differences because the script is upfront and honest by never letting us forget them.
The Idea of You gets ahead of the elephant in the room early, and often, that slowly fades away.

The Idea of You, based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, isn’t just about a woman falling in love with a pop star. Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom, gets involved in a passionate romance with Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the 24-year-old lead singer of the boy band August Moon. Since the book’s release in 2017, there’s been criticism of the age-gap romance at the center of the story.. To some, Solène and Hayes’ relationship is problematic because of their age difference. The backlash resurfaced online ahead of the film adaptation’s release. “I think it’s so derogatory,” director Michael Showalter told TV Insider during SXSW about the age-gap criticism surrounding the movie. “As a director, I feel like I get to know every character in my movies, so I get to experience the emotions of everybody I get ...

Despite their rom com-heavy résumés, Anne Hathaway and actor-turned-director Michael Showalter had never met prior to collaborating on the May-December love story “The Idea of You,” which bows May 2 on Amazon Prime Video. Unless you count that one time at Beverly Hills’ Gucci Osteria, which in 2022 was the site of a dinner party to celebrate Jessica Chastain’s Oscar nomination for the Showalter-directed film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
“I wanted to talk to Anne, but I was too embarrassed,” Showalter recalls of the soiree. “The path of least resistance is to just not talk to anybody.” Adds Hathaway with a chuckle: “I couldn’t figure out how to breach my wall of shyness.”
Months later, Hathaway conquered her timidity when she recruited Showalter to co-write and direct “The Idea of You,” in which the star of “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Princess Diaries” portrays a 40-year-old single mother...

Cathy Schulman says getting into the movie business was a “bit of an accident.” It was a time before studying cinema was recognized as a fine art, so she was a playwrighting major at Yale. Then someone told her she would average about $1,500 for her plays. Concerned if she could support herself, she was advised to look into the movie business. “I said, ‘What’s that?’” Schulman, now the CEO and president of Welle Entertainment, recalls. “And the next thing you knew, I was in an interview, and I was hired to work on a set, and the rest is history.”
The movie was “Blue Steel,” and the-then 22-year-old Schulman was excited to see the film was being directed by a woman, Kathryn Bigelow. (She didn’t know it would be another 20 years before she worked with a female director.) From those humble beginnings, Schulman would go on to enormous...

Anne Hathaway opened up this week about her experience “back in the 2000s” being asked to kiss “ten guys” for a chemistry read.
“I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited,” Hathaway told V Magazine. She didn’t specify what project the audition was for.
“I thought it sounded gross,” she continued. “And I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it.”
Hathaway said this practice was “considered normal” during the early aughts. “It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me,” she said. “It was just a very different time and now we know better.

Anne Hathaway recalled an earlier time in her career when she was required to make out with 10 men as part of a chemistry test for an audition.
“Back in the 2000s — and this did happen to me — it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it,” she explained in an interview with V Magazine out Monday.

Anne Hathaway said in a new interview with V Magazine ahead of the release of her upcoming movie “The Idea of You” that chemistry tests have come a long way since her auditioning days in the 2000s. While the Oscar winner did not cite any movies by name, she did reveal that she was once required to kiss a handful of men in order for the team behind the film to find her the perfect co-star.
