- She was Twiggy's greatest influence in modeling. According to Twiggy, she "absolutely idolised" Jean Shrimpton and has credited Shrimpton as her biggest idol.
- Is widely remarked by the media as one of the world's first supermodels and icon of 1960s Swinging London. Popular for revolutionising the modeling world with her new look, in which she began her career at the start of the 1960s, she was the predecessor to the later skinny models of that era such as Twiggy and Penelope Tree ("The Tree"). Jean Shrimpton broke the mould of the generation of 1950s models before her, who were aristocratic-looking and had voluptuous, curvaceous figures, by contrasting them with her playfully, coltish gamine looks of the Youthquake Movement in 1960s Swinging London and her long legs and very slim stick figure which gave her the famous nickname "The Shrimp". She was also known for her long hair with a fringe, wide doe-eyes, long wispy eyelashes, arched brows, and pouty lips. During her modeling career, Shrimpton was widely reported to be the "world's highest paid model", the "most famous model", the "most photographed in the world" and was described as having the "world's most beautiful face". She was also dubbed "The It Girl", "The Face", "The Face of the Moment", and "The Face of the '60s".
- Her sister Chrissie was also a leading model and dated Mick Jagger.
- Was told to take up modeling by a stranger at the polo in Windsor Great Park and by film director Cy Endfield when she was taking lunch in Hyde Park. Afterwards, she went on a Lucie Clayton course which lasted about a month.
- Owns and runs a 1620 hotel called the Abbey Hotel, with husband Michael Cox and son Thaddeus in Penzance, Cornwall, England. They purchased the hotel in 1980.
- [in 1999, on her career] It was great fun becoming famous, but I got tired of it.
- [on her looks] If you take off the make-up, I'm ugly.
- I lie in bed sometimes and think "ugh", I don't like my looks at all. [Interview with The Daily Mail, 2007]
