To Hong Kong documentary filmmaker Ngan Chi-sing, seeking asylum in the U.K. is going to be one of his priorities in the coming year. That’s because he has made a film about the 2019 protests that he fears would endanger his security, should he ever return to his home city.
“Hong Kong cannot tolerate documentary films like mine anymore,” Ngan, the director of “Love in the Time of Revolution,” which premieres this week at the inaugural edition of the Melbourne Hong Kong Film Festival running from June 12-19 in Australia, told Variety. Ngan himself handles the international sales of the film, which appeared in Vision du Reel earlier this year.

“Iceman Cometh” is a upcoming remake which will be directed by and starring Donnie Yen, recently director Stephen Shiu Jr spoke about the movie and that Yuen Biao will also be making an appearance.
This is fantastic news, having been a Biao fan for a long time and that i also love the original Iceman Cometh movie, to see Yuen Biao and Donnie yen back in the same movie again will be a great watch (The first being Circus Kids).
Original movie plot.
A royal guard from the Ming Dynasty and the criminal he chases are frozen in ice during a fight. They are discovered in the 1980s and are transported to Hong Kong as historical artifacts. There they are defrosted and continue their rivalry.
How did you get the idea to cast Donnie Yen in “Iceman Cometh”?
I was always thinking, “if I had Donnie Yen, what kind of movie would I shoot?...

Want to know how shallow I really am? Take a look at the poster for director Stephen Shiu’s upcoming action flick “3D Bauhinia Heroine”, a film which stars Chrissie Chow. I don’t know a damn thing about the movie’s plot, but I’m already hooked because the poster features a lithe young woman decked out in all black. Right now, that’s really all I need to know. The artwork is pretty stylish, and as long as the movie delivers plenty of epic martial arts mayhem, chances are I’ll be all over this one as soon as it arrives next year. That’s right — next year. Oh, well. It’s a damn good thing there’s plenty of stuff to tide me over until then. “3D Bauhinia Heroine” will open across China sometime in...

Exactly one year ago at the Hong Kong International Film & Television Market (Filmart), Hong Kong producer Stephen Shiu Jr. was starting to sell the erotic movie "3D Sex & Zen" which at that time had not been released in local theaters. The movie beat "Avatar" at the Hong Kong box-office on its opening day, which created worldwide buzz. This year, Stephen Shiu Jr. is back at Filmart with his film company China 3D and six new movies. The first “3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy” proved to be so successful that it took the biggest opening day crown from the likes of James Cameron’s “Avatar”. I guess when it comes right down to it, Hong Kongers prefer their 3D with a nice helping of boobies and badly simulated sex that doesn’t involve the color blue or tails. Can’t say I blame them. With the fist film being such a hit, obviously you knew a sequel would be coming. The film’s producer Stephen Shiu is already hard at work on said follow-up, which has now received the ponderous title of “4D Sex and Zen: Slayer of a Thousand from the Mysterious East”. My guess is that by the time the film leaves the former island colony to seek its fortunes on the International scene it’ll just be called “4D Sex and Zen”. So...

The makers of "3D Sex & Zen: Extreme Ecstasy" don't want you to just come To the cinema any more.
Stephen Shiu, the producer behind the 2011 Hong Kong 3-D erotic costume drama theatrical feature, tells Daily Chilli (via The Hollywood Reporter) that a sequel is in the works and plans to top the previous film. How? By going 4D.
Vibrating seat technology will be incorporated into Hong Kong theaters for the film's sequel "4D Sex and Zen: Slayer of a Thousand from the Mysterious East".
Seats will no doubt be set to tingle during some of the more sensuous scenes, hopefully an army of dry cleaners will also be on standby at all times.
The previous film, a darker toned remake of the classic 1991 2D erotic comedy, scored an opening day take of Hk$2.79 million on the island, taking the previous box office record from "Avatar".

Once again demonstrating that America lags behind the Asian markets when it comes to innovations in technology and sexual perversion, a sequel to last year’s breakout hit/breakout penis film 3-D Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is already in the works, with producer Stephen Shiu vowing it will breach a whole new dimension in genital immersion. Yes, 4-d Sex and Zen: Slayer Of A Thousand From The Mysterious East will, as its title suggests, at last give the mysterious East what’s coming to it, but more importantly it will feature “4-d” effects—namely, the addition of vibrating seats ...

When the Hong Kong erotic costume drama film 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy became a huge box office success across Asia last year, we knew its just a matter of time before a sequel is in the works. Sure enough, producer Stephen Shiu Jr recently revealed to the media that he will follow up but the real kicker is he plans to upped the ante to "4D" in hopes to surpass its predecessor. The experimental idea for the sequel (tentatively entitled: 4D Sex and Zen: Slayer of a Thousand from the Mysterious East) is to have the audience watch the film while the seats vibrates at various points, adding an extra dimension to the movie-going experience. This technology has already been installed to atleast...

3D Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy
Stars: Hiro Hayama, Leni Lan Yan, Saori Hara, Yukiko Suô | Written by Stephen Siu, Mark Wu | Directed by Christopher Sun Lap Key
When reviewing 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy it’s hard to understand what point of view to take it from. If you take it from the fact it’s advertised as the first 3D “erotic” movie then you would expect nothing but a porn movie where you have to wear uncomfortable glasses and expect to be sexually turned on by what you are seeing, but then when you actually do make it through it you realise that it’s false advertising.
The movie is about Wei Yangsheng who on marrying Tie Yuxiang for love fiends that he underperforms in the bedroom department, in his view of course it is not he who is the problem but her and his lusts lead...

The latest project with Donnie yen attached to it is the classic 1989 movie “The Iceman Cometh” which starred kung fu legend Yuen Biao and the beautiful Maggie Cheung. When i first heard about this, i wasn’t sure how to take it as im a big fan of the original and thought Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung did a fantastic job.
The movie will once again be shot in 3D, why? im not to sure, it seems this is the way they want to make movies from now on, but i feel it only works on big blockbuster movies and this movie doesn’t need it. Raymond Yip and Christopher Sun will both co-direct the movie with Stephen Shiu returning once again as the producer of the movie.

Given the current popularity of 3D technology, it was always inevitable that sooner or later someone would use it for full on exploitation cinema – and so it’s hats off to Hong Kong for getting there first, with “Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy”, proudly branded as being the world’s first 3D erotic film. The marketing tactic has certainly been a hit, not only propelling it to great success at the Chinese box office, but also whipping up hype around the globe and marking it as one of the very few Category III rated local productions to win an international theatrical release. Directed by Christopher Sun, the film is essentially a remake of the 1991 original, with producer Stephen Shiu back on board for another adaptation of the Chinese Qing Dynasty erotic classic ‘The Carnal Prayer Mat’. The film features a pan-Asian cast giving their all in the name of art,...

Goggle-eyed pervs rejoice, the entirely bizarre 3D Sex and Zen finally hits cinemas today, albeit in a slightly trimmed version due to some cuts requested by the BBFC. Some of you may have seen last month my PR-sanctioned tweetathon during the press screening of the film – if you didn’t it’s safe to say I found watching it a curious, but hugely amusing experience filled with titillation, innuendo and enough bodily fluids flying out of the screen to scar some timid souls for life.
After seeing the film I was given the chance to speak to director Christopher Sun. During our conversation we discussed the original Sex and Zen films, the incidence of erotic comedies in Asian cinema, and just how he feels about the insistence of the BBFC that certain scenes were removed before it could be shown in the UK. I must admit from the outset the subject matter of 3-D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy (2011) would not be my usual choice. However, this new exercise in erotica from veteran screen writer and producer Stephen Siu, his son Stephen Siu Jr., and director Christopher Sun Lap Key, though taking the subject of soft porn about as near to the limit as you can, is not the vacuous entertainment you usually get with western pornography.

Quick, what 3D film holds the opening day record in Hong Kong? I'll give you a hint. It's not Avatar, and it's in the headline. There's a common belief in technology that new consumer technologies only become successful when they find an application in sex. The Internet? Porn. VHS beat the superior Beta format because Sony wouldn't give licenses for pornography to be produced on the Beta. The printing press? Monk slash fiction. Well now we can add 3D to that list, because the first successful adult film in 3D is coming to America.
Sex and Zen 3D is an erotic costume drama set in the historical Ming Dynasty and was adapted from the novel The Carnal Prayer Mat, which I think is a far superior title. Its Chinese distributor reached a deal at Cannes with China Lion, an America distributor of Asian films, to bring the film to American theaters.

I wonder how 3D advocate James Cameron would react to this news. Would he approve if he found out that it was shot in 3D? Avatar had previously held the record with a 2.63 million dollar Hong Kong gross. In the end, the only thing that could take down the Na'vi was full frontal nudity. Among its many box office records, Avatar held the single day box office record in Hong Kong, grossing 2.63 million Hong Kong dollars on its opening day. That record has now fallen, though, as a 3D soft core porno film called 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy made Hk$2.78 million (the equivalent of $340,ooo U.S.) on its opening day on just 73 screens, eventually grossing Hk$17 million over its opening weekend. 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is a remake of a 1991 film of the same name about a sexually frustrated teacher in ancient China who gets wrapped up in the harem of a new friend. The Cantonese-language Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy turned out to be such a quick hit that its producer already started talking about a sequel. “It depends on the box office of 3D Sex and Zen but we’re hoping the sequel will start production as soon as the end of 2011 with an all-new cast,” producer Stephen Shiu said in London’s Guardian.

Producers of groundbreaking adult movie Sex and Zen 3D: Extreme Ecstasy planning follow-up with new cast
They say sex sells, and it now seems that sex in stereoscope is at least twice as marketable. A Chinese film billed as the world's first 3D porn movie may get a sequel after opening to enthusiastic audiences in Hong Kong.
Sex and Zen 3D: Extreme Ecstasy packed cinemas across Hong Kong yesterday as curious filmgoers flocked to see the highly hyped movie for themselves. The film, set at the raunchy court of Ming-dynasty ancient China, is a sequel to an earlier Chinese movie, 1991's Sex and Zen, which remains Hong Kong's highest-grossing adult film.

Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is a world first, with technology that hopes to revive an ailing industry. But it is unlikely to be seen in full in the mainland
It is being billed as the world's first 3D porn film, a movie so salacious that Chinese audiences are reportedly flocking from the mainland to more permissive Hong Kong for the chance to see an uncut version.
Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy will open in the former British protectorate and Taiwan next week. The £2m Cantonese language film is an ornate fantasy with high production values, set at the kinky court of Ming dynasty ancient China. It is ostensibly based on the classic Chinese erotic text, The Carnal Prayer Mat, and follows a young man as he befriends a duke and enters a world of royal orgies and other sexual peccadilloes. The film is also a reworking of an earlier Chinese movie,...

A reworking of 1991 Hong Kong cult sensation Sex And Zen, the upcoming 3D Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy is being widely billed as the world's first 3D sex film. It's not true, of course - I doubt it's even true of the new generation of 3D technology - but since when did facts get in the way of a good story?
Original producer Stephen Siu is behind this new version with Japanese Av starlets Saori Hara and Yukiko Suho featuring prominently. The original trailer for the film showcased surprisingly high production values and a playful sense of comedy, the film feeling far more like a 1970's style Japanese effort than a cheap video cash in, but those wanting the *ahem* full experience may have been left wanting as all the naughty bits were blurred out.
Well, no more. A fully uncensored version of the trailer has arrived and can be found below.

Billed as the world's first 3D sex picture - it's not, just trust me on that - Hong Kong director Stephen Siu has "revisited" his 1991 film Sex And Zen with all of the wonders of modern technology to create 3D Sex And Zen: Extreme Ecstasy with Japanese Av girls Saori Hara and Reiko Suho starring. The 3D will ensure that when those bodices pop open, you know, they'll pop right open.
Hong Kong actually has a limited - and often very peculiar - history with this sort of film and it seems clear from the trailer that Siu is intending a very deliberate throwback to Hong Kong's Cat III heyday while also showing off an obvious sense of humor that could actually give this a life beyond being a simple T&A fest. If nothing else the visual gag with the Cat III logo on the poster is good for a giggle.

Hong Kong producer Stephen Siu has announced the start of his Us.2 Million 3-D adult film "3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy," Set to be released in May 2011, the film stars Japanese adult actresses Yukiko Suo and Saori Hara.
Though expecting censorship from Mainland China, a key market for Hong Kong filmmakers, Siu reports that interest from U.S., European and other Asian markets have been generated, particularly some pay TV Hong Kong channels.
Its future of being distributed on DVD or Blu-Ray is not as clear, however, with the present policy of the Blu-Ray disc association of shunning pornographic content.
