- He was awarded the 2009 (American) National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama and the National Endowment for the Arts at the White House in Washington, District of Columbia, USA, and was presented by President Obama on February 25, 2010 for his services and contributions to art. Additionally, In 1983, prior to the official establishment of the National Medal of Arts, through the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, President Ronald Reagan awarded a basically unnamed arts medal to a variety of artists and patrons of various art mediums, included in those 1983 arts medal awards by President Reagan was a medal award to the very same Frank Stella who was bestowed with an official 2009 National Medal of Arts by President Obama in February 2010.
