Ahhhhh, it's 80s night on American Idol, that classic throwback theme that actually made sense during the early years of the show. But for most of the Top 9 (or the Top 11 who had to prepare, unaware of who will be sent home in the double elimination), they might as well be singing The Kingston Trio.
In fact, elder statesman Nick Fradiani is the only finalist who was actually alive during that decade. He was born all the way back in 1985, which makes him a dinosaur to the likes of Daniel Seavey, who came into the world one month before I graduated high school in 1999. Rayvon Owen, in 1991, is the next closest.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
The big news seems to be that The X Factor: USA has named Nicole Scherzinger (whose breasts can compete with Cheryl Cole) and a Brit named Steve Jones as hosts of the show. With the already confirmed judges Cheryl Cole (zero name recognition in the States), and L.A. Reid (great cred, but not exactly a big name), Simon better hope that he can iron out a deal with Paula Abdul by Sunday.
Thomas Roberts sits down with Towleroad to talk about his new gig on MSNBC, being out, and just generally being a hunk.
Usoc official Peter Vidmar has resigned his position after having his anti-gay past brought up by activists and athletes alike.
Nick At Night is developing an original sitcom called Daddy’s Home about a stay-at-home dad, starring Scott Baio. After his reality show and his Twitter gaffes, I’m stunned...

Lots more sports tonight, and as I sit here gazing out at weather in the mid-80s (or high 20s for those of you who speak Celsius) I find myself wondering how it is that two 'winter' sports are still going strong. Basketball makes slightly more sense, because it's always been played indoors so it doesn't matter as much what time of year the games are played. But hockey? I don't doubt there are still places where you could have an outdoor ice rink around this time of year but not for much longer. Is there an explanation for this other than "the season starts later than it should to accommodate football" or is that it? Questions for the ages, for sure. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

The big entertainment news of the day yesterday was Charlie Sheen. He went on multiple radio shows and trashed Chuck Lorre, who created his show, and used some language some are calling anti-Semitic. CBS and Warner responded by cancelling the rest of the season of Two and a Half Men, and deciding they aren’t paying him the $1.8 million/episode for the eight episodes left to film.
The animals in Rango smoke, as did most characters in westerns. This has people upset. I can only assume they’re worried about their pets picking up the habit.
Corbin Fisher is suing a bunch of file sharers for torrenting its … films. While we’re against piracy here, there is legitimate concern that some teenagers may get outed unsafely by the mass lawsuits. To which Corbin Fisher responds “Liberty Media produces straight content too. So any thieving little shit who gets caught can...

The set list for the Valentine’s Day episode of Glee is out, and it could be called a spoiler. Standard rules apply to comments. But Omg! Two tunes from the Warblers!
The director for Captain America: First Avenger says he’s watched the first cut of the movie, and he loves it. Granted, I’d be really worried if he didn’t, but he says it’s funny, Which I wouldn’t expect from what I’ve seen in stills from the movie.
Mike White has had to drop out of Pride, Prejudice and Zombies due to scheduling issues. I consider this a good thing, because it means we don’t have to cover it.
Panasonic shipped a perfect snowman to the Bahrain desert, to demonstrate some super insulation material. But what’s awesome is that they shipped a snowman 5,314 miles to show children who have never seen snow what a snowman looks like.

Michael Ian Black refuses to perform at John Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity this week, but he's got a good reason, and if you've been following his Twitter account you know what that is.
Meanwhile, the NBA tweets have been in full swing with the new season officially kicked off. Danny Pudi was all about it yesterday, while Marlon Wayans sounded worried about the Miami Heat. While the NBA is a popular topic in Twitter-Wood, it still may not have been as popular as AMC's "The Walking Dead"; Carlton Cuse and Eric Appel checked out the premiere last night and posted their thoughts. You'll find them after the jump along with Brian Lynch's concerns about last night's "Glee" episode.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is Twitter-Wood for October 27, 2010.

I've thought in recent weeks about the concept of appointment TV, sort of because I've been routinely missing "Glee" in order to go to a local trivia night. I don't have DVR (I know, right? I also still use primitively shaped rocks as tools.) so I do have to make the choice between watching things live or going out. I also have to watch all the commercials, but that's another story for a different day. With "Glee" I don't have too much of a problem because it's always on Hulu, and that's to the internet that's becoming more common, but there's still something about getting the chance to watch your favorite show when it first airs. So, what's your appointment TV show? Do you have one at all or do you value watching shows commercial free over watching them live? Also; Happy Birthday Dad! Here's your Tuesday night TV:
