He joined The Kingston Trio in 1961, replacing founding member Dave Guard. He led the group for six years, during which time they
recorded 13 albums. At one point, they had four albums in the top 10 at
the same time.
After The Kingston Trio disbanded in 1967, Stewart went on to a successful solo career, and was a prolific songwriter.
Father of five children: John, Mikael, Jeremy, Amy and Luke
Stewart.
World Folk Music Association (WFMA) Tribute to John Stewart. Recipient
of Life Time Achievment Award. Held January 2001 at The Birchmere,
Alexandria, Virginia.

His brother, Michael Stewart, formed the 1960s folk rock musical group, We Five in 1964 when he was a student at the University of San Francisco.
