When Neil Young hits the road this summer with Crazy Horse, he’s planning on performing “Cortez The Killer” with verses that have been missing from the song for 50 years. “Just a couple of days ago, I found the other verses,” Young told fans Monday afternoon during a Zoom with paid subscribers to the Neil Young Archives. “Just the lyrics…We may have those lost lyrics in the show, which will be fun for me.”

More than a year after the death of David Crosby, the music he made with Stephen Stills and Graham Nash will be saluted in a tribute concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall this spring.
Set for May 13, the show — simply titled “The Music of Crosby, Stills and Nash” — will present interpretations of both group and solo songs by an eclectic lineup, including genre-fluid singer Yola; classic rock visionary Todd Rundgren; singer-songwriters Shawn Colvin, Rickie Lee Jones, and Aoife O’Donovan; indie rockers Iron & Wine and Real Estate; and jam-rock vanguard Grace Potter.

George Harrison let another rock star use the guitar that Eric Clapton played on The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” What an honor! That rock star used the guitar on another classic song. “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is a beloved tune but it was never a hit in the United States.
The guitar from The Beatles’ ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ was used in a soul song
Peter Frampton is a rock star who was part of the bands The Herd and Humble Pie. He also had a number of solo hits, including “Do You Feel Like We Do,” “Baby, I Love Your Way,” “Show Me the Way,” and “I’m in You.” In a 2022 Loudersound interview, Frampton recalled what it was like getting to work with George and company. “It was: ‘Nice to meet you, man … Do you want to play?’ I said: ‘You mean now?’

For my money, the Monkees are way, way more interesting than the Beatles.
According to Andrew Sandoval's thorough and invaluable book "The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the '60s TV Pop Sensation," an ad was put in Variety and the Hollywood Reporter on September 8, 1965, looking for "four insane boys" to be the members of a new pre-fabricated pop band. The band would also star in a TV series -- deliberately meant to evoke Richard Lester's 1964 Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night" -- that would use their real names, but present their lives as a fictional merry-go-round of kooky shenanigans.
The producers zeroed in on former child actor Micky Dolenz, a friend of musician Stephen Stills named Peter Tork, a British, boyish heartthrob named Davy Jones, and heir to the Liquid Paper fortune, Mike Nesmith. Their TV series debuted on September 12, 1966, the week after "Star Trek" debuted, and...

This post contains spoilers for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
The first episode of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off seems designed to make even the most passionate fans of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic books — or the cult classic film Edgar Wright made from them — wonder if perhaps they’ve had their fill of Scott and friends up in Toronto. Much of the premiere, written by O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, is simply recreating scenes familiar from the comics and the movie. The dialogue is tweaked here...

Scott Pilgrim is back, but not in the way anyone expected. The new Netflix animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is both a continuation of the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” story and a complete recontextualization of what transpired, twisting and morphing the source material into something completely new. And who better to do it than the author responsible for creating “Scott Pilgrim” in the first place?
The anime “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, and while it begins similarly to “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” a shocking twist at the end of Episode 1 soon takes this story in a different direction.
Edgar Wright, who co-wrote and directed the 2010 film adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” is involved in this new series as an executive producer and he also helped bring a big piece of the puzzle together: the cast.

This article contains spoilers for Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
Scott Pilgrim‘s wild and retro-infused world is populated with sociopathic, cruel, and disloyal people, and that’s not even counting the literal league of evil exes. In a tale about 20-somethings learning to become less terrible, only one angelic character lies within the ensemble, and she’s a few years shy of 20. Call me Alanis Morissette because of how ironic that is.
That person is none other than Knives Chau, the bubbly 17-year-old Chinese-Canadian high schooler obsessed with her 23-year-old boyfriend, Scott Pilgrim, to the extent she fights others to regain the love he never reciprocated. Before Ramona Flowers roller-skated into Scott’s life, Chau was just peachy keen on being a groupie to Pilgrim’s rock band, Sex Bomb-Omb. However, when she’s whisked away from Scott’s life, across each iteration –– the book, the movie, and...

Is there anyone who doesn’t know Scott Pilgrim, a quirky, adventurous 23-year-old who loves video games and comics more than anything? He never saw himself falling head over heels for someone, but when he did, everything changed. If you’re picturing him going on tranquil dates, drinking coffee from the same cup, and watching movies with chocolate popcorn, you’re dead wrong. He wanted to do these things but had a different matter to deal with first. The girl he fell for had an impressive dating portfolio; she had dated seven men, each more evil than the last. So, in order to woo the girl of his dreams, Scott Pilgrim had to fight this army of exes and survive.

Even if you’ve read Bryan Lee O’Malley’s seminal Scott Pilgrim Oni Press graphic novel series and even if you’ve seen Edgar Wright’s 2010 live-action Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski’s new Netflix animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off isn’t what you’re expecting it to be.
Because of Netflix’s very restrictive requests regarding what critics can and cannot reveal about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, I can’t tell you how or why it’s different or what the differences do to the themes of O’Malley’s fantastical story. Heck, I can’t even tell you if there are guest stars, much less who they are or who they play.
Darn.

It’s a battle of the exes like you’ve never seen before in the first full look at Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the new anime series from Netflix.
The two-minute teaser for the show, created for television by executive producers and co-showrunners Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, debuted during New York Comic Con on Saturday. As part of the hour-long panel, O’Malley and Grabinski not only presented the trailer and teased the series, but confirmed that Julian Cihi will voice the Katayanagi Twins (Kyle and Ken).
The trailer takes fans back to Toronto “not too long ago” as Scott asks out Ramona Flowers, the “girl of my dreams.” But in order to date her, Scott must defeat her “seven evil exes.” Electric battles and even more electric guitar riffs set up a new chapter in the Scott Pilgrim saga, which sees the return of the live-action cast as their respective characters.

Eric Clapton performed for Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. at a fundraising event in Brentwood this week.
Kennedy’s campaign said that the Monday evening event — at a private home in Brentwood — raised $1 million for his campaign and $1.2 million for a Pac supporting it.
Clapton made headlines during the Covid pandemic, as he came out forcefully against Covid protocols, including venues that required attendees to show proof of vaccination. Clapton claimed he experienced “disastrous” (albeit temporary) side effects after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, and that his hands and feet were “frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks…”
Kennedy has made numerous allegations about the safety of the vaccines, claims countered by numerous fact checks.
In a statement on Clapton’s appearance, Kennedy said, “Eric sings from the depths of the human condition. If he sees in me the possibility of bringing unity to our country,...

Graham Nash covered the George Harrison song “If I Needed Someone” when he was in The Hollies. Nash felt the band put out a solid cover, but Harrison didn’t agree. He publicly criticized the song, saying he didn’t want to be associated with it. Nash didn’t take the insult lying down. He ripped Harrison for using his platform to insult a smaller artist and wondered if Harrison would collect royalties from the cover he hated.
Graham Nash didn’t appreciate George Harrison’s negative opinion of a cover
The Hollies covered “If I Needed Someone” in 1965, much to Harrison’s distaste. He noted that the band had “spoilt it” and sounded like session men on the record. Nash was not happy when he heard this.
“Sometimes, even Saint George didn’t know when to keep his snarky views to himself,” Nash wrote in his book Wild Tales.

Nearly half a century after he began recording it, Neil Young has finally released his “long-lost” album, Chrome Dreams. Stream the record below.
Chrome Dreams’ journey began back in 1974, when Young cut a version of “Star of Bethlehem” that would eventually end up on his 1977 album American Stars ‘n Bars. From there, Young found himself in an era of fluidity, recording different songs with a variety of collaborators. By 1977, he had racked up a number of demos, some of which were compiled as an acetate to be considered for an album, dubbed Chrome Dreams.
Ultimately, Young decided not to release Chrome Dreams. Instead, he picked it apart, putting some songs on American Stars ‘n Bars, others on 1979’s Rust Never Sleeps, and some into the vault, never to be heard… err, until bootleggers got a hold of the acetate in the ‘90s, that is. Once copies started going around, the...

Robbie Robertson, the iconic guitarist and principal songwriter of The Band, passed away on Wednesday, August 9th after a long illness. Naturally, tributes poured in from the likes of Joni Mitchell, Stephen Stills, Neil Diamond, Stevie Van Zandt, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and more.
“A good friend and a genius. The Band’s music shocked the excess out of the Renaissance and were an essential part of the final back-to-the-roots trend of ‘60s,” wrote Van Zandt. “He was an underrated brilliant guitar player adding greatly to Bob Dylan’s best tour & best album.
“The music world lost a great one with the passing of Robbie Robertson,” Diamond said on Twitter, while Stills added, “Always kind and generous. Rest in peace, Robbie Robertson.”
Filmmaker Martin Scorsese described Robertson as a “confidante.” He wrote in a statement, “Long before we ever met, his music played a central...

The death on Wednesday of Robbie Robertson, the legendary 80-year-old founding guitarist for The Band who wrote many of the iconic group’s most famous songs – including “The Weight,” “Up on Cripple Creek” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” – spurred friends, fans and peers to remember his remarkable talent and the considerable mark Robertson left on the worlds of music and film.
Heading that list is a fellow named Martin Scorsese, who memorialized The Band’s farewell in his seminal 1978 concert documentary “The Last Waltz.” Scorsese also collaborated with Robertson on the music for some 14 of the filmmaker’s projects over the past several decades, including “Raging Bull,” “Casino,” “Gangs of New York,” “The King of Comedy,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Irishman” and the forthcoming “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

Sixteen years ago, in 2007, Neil Young puzzled quite a few people when he released a new album called Chrome Dreams II. Only his most devoted followers knew that the title was a reference to Chrome Dreams, an entirely different album he had put together in 1977 before shelving it in favor of American Stars ‘n Bars. The original Chrome Dreams leaked out years later as a bootleg drawn from the ’77 acetate, and many fans felt he had made the wrong choice. “In many ways,” Young biographer Jimmy McDonough wrote in his 2002 Young biography,...

David Crosby’s final band will reconvene later this summer for a special concert honoring the folk rock legend, who died back in January.
The show is both a tribute, as well as a make-up show of sorts: Crosby was originally scheduled to perform a set of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young classics at the Lobero Theatre on Feb. 22 to mark the Santa Barbara venue’s 150th birthday. The gig was obviously called off after his death, but now the band he assembled for that show will gather at the Lobero on Aug.

Neil Young and Stephen Stills reunited at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater on Saturday night for the latter’s “Light Up The Blues” autism awareness event. It was Young’s first on-stage performance since 2019.
The largely collaborative set concluded the night, with Young stepping up for solo renditions of “From Hank to Hendrix” and “Comes a Time” before being joined by house band Promise of the Real for “Heart of Gold.” Stills added piano accompaniment on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young number, “Helpless,” and remained to deliver a series of Buffalo Springfield songs, including “For What It’s Worth,” “Bluebird,” and “Mr. Soul” with help from Joe Walsh.
They closed with a rendition of “Long May You Run” from Stills-Young Band’s one-off 1976 joint album of the same name. Watch fan-captured footage of the setlist’s highlights below.

Nobody knew quite what to expect when Neil Young walked onstage Saturday night at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles to wrap up Light Up The Blues, a fundraising event organized by Stephen Stills and his wife Kristen Stills to benefit Autism Speaks. Discounting a surprise, two-song acoustic set at a Canadian environmental rally in February, Young hadn’t faced a live audience in nearly four years. The other performers at the show (Joe Walsh, Willie Nelson, Sharon Van Etten, Chris Stills, and Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real...
