Paint is a film written and directed by Brit McAdams starring Owen Wilson.
It is a comedy that boasts the flag of quirkiness, and, in its 60s hippy vibes, it is attractive… for a while.
One of those comedies that, unfortunately, runs out of fuel in its initial approach without having a clear idea to develop.
Paint Movie review
There’s some charm to it as a nostalgic product and as a chance to recall for a while the times in which Forrest Gump found love… to the rhythm of Dolly Parton. It has some style regarding the recreation more than in the interpretation or the story, which don’t want to be memorable at any time.
This film has the dubious merit of being told as it renders the life of this painter, something that ends apparently without leaving any trace, transitioning between light comedy and an acid sense...

Owen Wilson is back, with brushes, as the longtime host of a beloved but fading Burlington, Vermont-based PBS instructional art show. Paint from IFC Films opens Friday on 800-plus screens.
Public television is always ripe for parody and happens to be a world Wilson knows. His father Robert Wilson helped launch, and ran, Dallas PBS station Kera. (He also introduced Monty Python’s Flying Circus to public television.)
Paint director Brit McAdams tells Deadline said that his own after-school TV ritual, General Hospital, would often segue into PBS host Bob Ross’ The Joy of Painting. Ross is a loose inspiration for Wilson’s character, Carl Nargle, in the look at least, from permed hair, denim-on-denim wardrobe and dulcet tones that impressed McAdams and a global fan base.

Channel-surfing may be a nostalgic pastime these days, but those who experienced the mindless boredom of finding “nothing on TV” will probably recall the most compellingly boring show ever: “The Joy of Painting” with Bob Ross. With his signature curly brown afro and soothing voice, Ross was a fixture on PBS and of many a rainy afternoon. Though new episodes stopped airing in 1994, the late painter reached sustained notoriety through international reruns, Twitch streams, a Netflix deal, and a YouTube channel. In 2021, Netflix released a documentary about his life, “Bob Ross: Happy Accidents, Betrayal & Greed.”
A new fictional film plays on Ross’ pop culture icon status without using his name or any particular details of his life, instead trading on his distinctive look and the public television painting show setting. Written and directed by Brit McAdams (“Tosh.0”), “Paint” stars Owen Wilson as Carl Nargle, a revered painter with a...

If you’ve seen promos for Paint, you’ve probably figured out that Brit McAdams’ comedy starring Owen Wilson is inspired by Bob Ross, the artist who hosted the low-fi PBS series The Joy of Painting for many years before succumbing to lymphoma at age 52 in 1995. Creating landscape paintings in under 30 minutes, Ross was an unwitting progenitor of Asmr, with his endlessly laid-back demeanor, his soft speaking style and his soothing manner that exuded a sort of hypnotic calm. He was also a distinctive visual presence with his impossibly large permed hair, thick beard and mustache, invariably dressed in jeans and a light-colored shirt.
As Carl Nagle, who hosts a Vermont public television show about painting, Wilson channels Ross’ distinctive persona not only visually but also spiritually. The casting feels dead-on, since Wilson has made a career specialty of playing laid-back, slightly dazed characters who seem stoned out of their minds even while perfectly sober.

The first season of Loki helped introduce audiences to the Time Variance Authority, the Multiverse, and of course, Johnathan Majors as He Who Remains. These elements have become quite important to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leaving fans anxiously awaiting the second season of the series. It’s been nearly two years since Loki debuted, and star Owen Wilson has a thought on when the release of season 2 might happen.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his new movie, Paint, Owen Wilson teased the Loki season 2 release date. “I guess they have kind of a little shot of Tom Hiddleston and I and Jonathan Majors from Loki season two,” Wilson said. “And I think that’s coming out end of the summer or September.” Wilson promised that the second season will “get very wild.“

"Don't let fame bring out the worst in you." IFC has revealed full-length official trailer for the film Paint, from writer / director Brit McAdams. This looks like it should be an absolute delight - really looking forward to it. Owen Wilson stars as Carl Nargle, Vermont's #1 public TV painter who's convinced he has it all: a signature perm, custom van, fans hanging on his every stroke... until a younger, better artist steals takes it all from Carl. He soon finds himself in a rut, and the station isn't pulling in ratings. So when they hire a new painter to revitalize the channel, Carl's own fears regarding his talents are brought to the forefront. The film's cast includes Stephen Root, Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lusia Strus, Lucy Freyer, and Ciara Renée. I adore Bob Ross, so I hope this doesn't smear him... but it also seems like an entirely different story.

Owen Wilson appears to be channeling his inner Bob Ross in the first trailer for IFC Films’ upcoming comedy Paint.
Director Brit McAdams’ film is set for release on April 7 and stars Wilson as Carl Nargle, the beloved host of a long-running instructional painting series on Vermont public television. Trouble arises when a younger painter played by Ciara Renée is hired to attract a different demographic, exacerbating Carl’s deep-seated insecurities about his own artistic talents.
“You’re entitled to your favorite TV show — that’s what makes this country great,” a frustrated Carl begrudgingly admits in the trailer just before he is seen hurling a can of paint at a wall.
The footage also shows Wilson’s character receiving plenty of attention from female supporters, including an awkward moment involving a fondue outing with one particularly devoted fan.
Paint’s cast includes Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Lusia Strus and Stephen Root.

Almost a year ago, I saw Buffaloed at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival and was absolutely blown away. Not only is it a wonderfully smart and razor sharp satirical dramedy, it features the best turn to date by Zoey Deutch, who is quickly becoming among the most exciting actresses in the business. With the movie finally coming out this Friday, it’s a perfect excuse to unveil the first installment for 2020 of the Spotlight on the Stars series, since Deutch is well on her way to being one of the biggest in the industry. Mark my words, ladies and gentlemen, she’s shooting straight to the top of the A-list. The film itself is the year’s best title, without question. The synopsis, courtesy of Rotten Tomatoes, is as follows: “Peg Dahl (Zoey Deutch) has never run with the Buffalo pack. As a young girl obsessed with making enough cash to...

TNT has canceled the drama series “Good Behavior” after two seasons.
The series, based on the book series by Blake Crouch, starred Michelle Dockery, Juan Diego Botto, Terry Kinney, Lusia Strus and Joey Kern. It was adapted for television by Chad Hodge and Crouch. In the series Dockery starred as Letty Raines, a con artist who becomes involved with a hitman (Botto).
Hodge served as showrunner and executive produced along with Crouch. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios also executive produced. The second season of the series launched last October.
“Good Behavior” failed to find a significant audience on TNT, ranking as the cabler’s lowest-rated original series in the Nielsen Live+Same Day ratings. The second season averaged a 0.2 rating in adults 18-49 and just under 600,000 viewers per episode.

It’s over — despite efforts to give Good Behavior a proper conclusion, there will be no third installment of the TNT series. The cancellation was just announced on Instagram by creator/executive producer Chad Hodge who also included a scene from the would-be third season.
“With a heavy heart I have to let you know that Good Behavior will not return for a third season on TNT,” he wrote.
Despite solid reviews and a popular star, Michelle Dockery in her follow-up to hit Downton Abbey, Good Behavior never found a wide audience. Its Live+same day ratings were low, a fraction of the second lowest-rated original drama series on the network.
Still, the show did strong business in delayed viewing and on digital platforms, drawing younger viewers, and became a cult favorite. “It has a passionate audience,” TNT and TBS president Kevin Reilly told Deadline in May.

TNT still hasn't fully decided whether it will cancel or renew its Good Behavior TV show for a third season. The series earns cancellation-low linear ratings, but its numbers improve with DVR-delayed and digital platform views. Today at the Turner Upfront presentation to advertisers, the network indicated it would like to give the series some sort of send-off, but whether that will happen as part of a third and final season, or in a Good Behavior TV series finale movie is still up in the air. On the TNT series, Michelle Dockery plays Letty, who is on the run from the FBI just as she was heading toward a new life with Javier (Juan Diego Botto) and her son Jacob (Nyles Julian). But as fans know, one deal always leads to another problem. In Et's exclusive clip from season two's upcoming episode, Letty has a heart to heart with her mother, Estelle (Lusia Strus), about where things stand with her and Javier.
In an interview with Et, the former Downton Abbey star said that shunning crime and settling into a normal family life would be difficult for Letty, whose complicated relationship with Estelle is also further explored this season. “Letty has a tumultuous background,” Dockery explained. “From the moment she could find her independence, she was on a rampage, wanting to rebel. I love the grifter in her, the sense of survival. She’s super-intelligent, and that makes her an outsider. It’s impossible...

On the TNT series Good Behavior, which returns with season two on Oct. 15, Michelle Dockery -- best known for playing the coolly aristocratic Lady Mary Crawley on Downton Abbey -- returns as Letty Raines, an American con artist sprung from prison with the intent of applying her relatively limited resources, chief among them her wits, to a fresh start.
It’s a 180-degree turn from her Downton character, says Dockery, who in fact was offered the part just as Downton was coming to an end in 2015. “But what I love about Letty and Mary is that they’re both complex, deeply flawed women,” she says.
And like Lady Mary, who thawed substantially over six seasons, Letty is evolving. In this new season, having regained custody of her young son, Jacob (played by Nyles Steele), Letty aims to establish at least a semblance of domestic stability with her hired-assassin lover, Javier (Juan Diego Botto).

Three episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
The short-form anthology feel of the novella lends a gritty realism to the opening hours of TNT’s new drama Good Behavior. That makes sense, given that the show is based on Blake Crouch’s Letty Dobesh novellas (Crouch also wrote Wayward Pines, alas there is no such fringe weirdness here), but it also makes the show feel unique in spite of, or perhaps because of, a few problematic imperfections.
There’s occasional blandness to the way the show treats its degenerate-with-a-heart-of-gold main character, the ex-con con artist Letty Raines in this version, but it’s got an elusive, dreamlike vibe to it that makes it one easy rabbit hole to fall into. Not much that happens here is shockingly new – there are salacious relationships, drug addicts forced to get clean, shocking murders, and attempts to hide a true self from the public.
