Moira Stuart became Britain's first black TV newsreader, working for
the BBC first as a radio newsreader and continuity announcer in the
1970s and moving to television in 1981. She's now one of the UK's most
recognizable TV faces, and was awarded the OBE in 2001 for services to
news broadcasting.
She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours List for her services to News Broadcasting.
Daughter of Marjorie Gordon (born 1921, died 2017) and Harold Stuart (born 1914, died 1966) who divorced in 1950.
She was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2022 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to Media. She is a presenter and broadcaster in London, Greater London, England.
She was born at the old Royal Free Hospital on Gray's Inn Road in London. Some sources incorrectly give her birth place as Hampstead, London, which has been the site of the current Royal Free Hospital since 1974.
