UK gangster drama Rise Of The Krays is on course to break a home entertainment record for a direct-to-video production after selling more than 22,000 DVD and Blu-ray units in its first three days.
The Signature release is on course to become the first film in at least five years to go without a theatrical release and cross 40,000 unit sales in one week, according to Official Charts Company data.
According to distributor Signature the film has also registered the company’s best performance on digital platforms to date.
Co-produced by West Ham Chairman, David Sullivan, The Rise Of The Krays charts the early years of the notorious East End gangsters, who are also the subject of upcoming biopic Legend, starring Tom Hardy.

David Sullivan, chairman of London football club West Ham United, has invested in UK distributor Signature Entertainment.
According to Signature MD Marc Goldberg, the undisclosed level of investment will “allow for more tent-pole acquisitions and international expansion”.
The company is planning to launch more theatrical campaigns over the next 18 months, including both day-and-date and wide releases, and intends to produce its own content and form strategic alliances with foreign distributors.
Goldberg said: “David’s investment will help to bolster our already impressive slate for 2016 and beyond, and will allow us to reach our ambitious goals in the months and years ahead. David’s decision to invest in Signature only highlights our burgeoning reputation and will help to cement our place as the fastest growing, and most commercial UK film distributor.”

Trash is not necessarily a bad thing in a movie. Of course there are irredeemably trashy movies which are just plain awful, but then there are the transcendental trashy movies produced by directors such as Ed Wood, Doris Wishman, John Waters, H G Lewis and Troma. These directors manage to capture a weird quirk or a sincere passion for film making which is infectious, despite their shoddiness. Such films are a joy for fans of low rent cinema.
I have listed below nine trash masterpieces which we should kneel before like Magi, such is their entertainment value.
9. Come Play With Me (1977)
A British entry into the trash stakes, I used to find this film quite repellant, but I found my copy of Come Play With Me (which I got on a collect the coupons special from the Daily Sport!) the other day and I watched it and reappraised it. I actually found it quite entertaining.
