Dave Bautista may already play a major role in one comic book franchise as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Drax, but the former professional wrestler has nonetheless set his sights on the Dceu. After threatening to quit the McU if James Gunn wasn’t rehired for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3., Bautista was briefly in talks to re-team with the director on The Suicide Squad before the role ironically went to his old WWE rival John Cena.
That hasn’t deterred the Blade Runner 2049 star though, and following on from his admission that he’d pitched the idea of playing Bane in The Batman to Warner Bros. and DC, we’ve heard that they’ve now re-entered talks with an eye to having Bautista don the mask in one of the potential sequels to Matt Reeves’ film.

With the box office less than hoped for, Warner Bros. decided it was time to entice parents and the children who stayed away from the darker Batman Returns. Despite the comic book source material of the late 1980s being grim and gritty, Warner saw the dollar signs after the success of Batman the Animated Series and wanted those younger viewers.

It’s less of a thing now, but in the 1980s and 1990s, major blockbusters were sometimes accompanied by a making-of book. Sure, these tended to be quite glossy and promotional, but they also had to fill 100-200 pages with something. And in the case of Batman & Robin, one of 1997’s two notorious blockbuster flops (Speed 2 being the other), Michael Singer penned a 128 page guide to what was supposed to be the biggest film of the year.
It’s interesting, too, digging in far more detail than you might expect into the technical details. Here are 25 of the things that we found out from reading it…

Film Skechr has new Batman & Robin article that contains an interview with conceptual illustrator, Tim Burgard. The images include a design for Uma Thurman's eco-terrorist, Poison Ivy, and storyboards with Bane, who was played by professional wrestler Jeep Swenson (died 2 months after the film was released). Here's an excerpt: Maurice Mitchell: You have a design for Poison Ivy that is pretty different from the final film. Was it considered? Tim Burgard: Because the costume department didn't release their costume designs to me for me to do my job I went ahead and did their job first. You can see from my boards that I decided to use Poison Ivy's original comic book costume, which was better than the film version in my opinion. Click here for the full interview. Like it or not Tom Hardy has some big shoes to fill. No, I don't mean Jeep Swenson's performance as Bane in Batman & Robin. I'm talking about being the next main villain in a Nolan Batman film. Having to be the guy that follows an Oscar-winning performance like the one Heath Ledger gave in The Dark Knight would probably be overwhelming to most actors, but not Tom Hardy. Did you have any apprehension for being the guy that would follow Heath Ledger’s Joker? Hardy: No, I don’t think absolutely. That would be putting myself in a competition with somebody who’s clearly brilliant. And it’s not a question of whose talent is greater or whose work is greater. It’s just trying to be the best that we can be, rather then trying to be better then somebody else. I’m not trying to be better than somebody else.

With all of the spoilers that have come out because of set photos and videos, 'The Dark Knight Rises' is due for a synopsis -- a good one, though. Comic Book Movie spotted a synopsis that was apparently handed out during this past May's Cannes Film Festival, actually prior to a lot of the leaks, so it being so vague and awful makes sense. Here it is: "Every hero has a journey. Every journey has an end. Christopher Nolan returns to complete the epic Gotham trilogy that launched with Batman Begins and reached the stratosphere with the billion-dollar blockbuster The Dark Knight. Inception's Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levett join the cast regulars along with Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as the powerful villain Bane, while Oscar winner Christian Bale prowls the night as the Caped Crusader, fighting crime and corruption with the help of Michael Cane,...

Set photos of Tom Hardy as Bane on the Pittsburgh set of 'The Dark Knight Rises' have been garnering a ton of attention over the past few days. In a sense, the mystique is gone, but there's still so much about Hardy's take on the character that won't fully come to light until the film lands in theaters. In an interview with Total Film, Hardy spoke a little about how he first got the role, what he brings to it, if he's nervous about competing with the late Heath Ledger's Joker, and what he thinks of wearing a mask. In typical fashion of anyone working on a Christopher Nolan directed film, he didn't get too in depth. While Hardy was in the middle of shooting the upcoming action comedy, 'This Means War,' he was contacted about playing Bane by Nolan himself. His response: "Hang on a minute.

The downfall of many a comic book movie franchise can be (at least partially) attributed to the fact that as the number of movies in the franchise increases, so too does the number of villains facing off against the hero. Two of the biggest offenders of this franchise-ending trend are Batman & Robin, the fourth and final movie in the original Batman movie series with three major villains — Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman), and Bane (Jeep Swenson) — and Spider-Man 3, which also upped the ante to three villains — Green Goblin II (James Franco), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) and Venom (Topher Grace).
So far director Christopher Nolan seems to have avoided this "curse," pitting his Batman (Academy Award-winner Christian Bale) against both the Joker (Heath Ledger) and Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart) — and, technically Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy), as well, though it was more of a glorified cameo — in his highly acclaimed sequel The Dark Knight.

Since being cast as the villain Bane in director Christopher Nolan's upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception actor Tom Hardy has remained relatively quiet about the situation, until he appeared on British talk show Alan Carr: Chatty Man (via Batman-News). Hardy won't be the first actor to portray the character of Bane in a Batman movie, a fact that Hardy himself mentioned.
"Have you seen Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin?" asked Hardy, after which a photo of the character (played by the late Jeep Swenson) next to fellow villain Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman). "Doesn't look very menacing does he?"
Hardy maintains that his Bane will be very different from the 1997 version. "Christopher Nolan will revisit that territory entirely, so I wouldn't go by that at all."

Tom Hardy is bulking up - the actor is piling on the pounds to play Batman's nemesis in Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.
The Brit is set to play violent villain Bane opposite Christian Bale's Caped Crusader in the next installment of the superhero franchise, but he'll have to gain more than 20 pounds (nine kilograms) before filming begins in May.
He tells U.K. talk show host Alan Carr, "I'm going to need to bulk up a lot for it. That's a lot of weight to put on and I've got to start shooting in May. I've got to go up to about 13 and a half or 14 stone (196 pounds/89 kilograms). I'm 12 and a bit now, so I've got under three months to do that. Fat - a lot of fat. And trickery."
And Hardy has vowed to make his version of Bane more terrifying than Jeep Swenson's turn as the character in 1997 box office flop Batman & Robin.
He adds, "Have you seen the Joel Schumacher Batman & Robin? (Bane) doesn't look very menacing, does he? Christopher Nolan will revisit that territory entirely so I wouldn't go by that at all."...

In a Warner Brothers Press Release and La Times report on their Hero Complex page, Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) clawed the role of Catwoman and confirmed Tom Hardy (Inception) will play Bane in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming third and final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
Hathaway continues the line of actresses who have played the sultry jewel thief Selina Kyle including Eatha Kitt, Julie Newmar, and Lee Meriweather in the 1960′s Batman TV show, and Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1992 Tim Burton film, Batman Returns. And unfortunately, we all would like to forget the 2004 Catwoman film starring Halle Berry.
Hathaway certainly has the acting skill and the looks to play the role having been nominated for an Academy Award for Rachel Getting Married and recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for Love and Other Drugs. However, she’s not the first actress that comes to mind when you...

Holy casting news, Batman! Anne Hathaway has landed the role of Selina Kyle -- whose alter-ego is the slinky, leather-clad, very nimble Catwoman -- in Christopher Nolan's third (and supposedly final) Caped Crusader flick, "The Dark Knight Rises." Purr-fect casting, if you ask us (sorry, that's the only cat pun we'll make).
Warner Bros. made the announcement via an official statement today. The statement also revealed the long-debated identity of the villain that will be played by the previously cast Tom Hardy. He'll portray the well-muscled Bane, a guy so badass that -- according to his DC comics back story -- he was born and raised in a Caribbean prison, killed his first man at age 8 and famously broke Batman's back in the "Knightfall" story line. Sounds like Christian Bale's Dark Knight has got his work cut out for him.
