New Tricks Season Nine
New Tricks has become one of the staples of British TV over the last decade and its success is hardly surprising given the quality of the cast. Regulars include Dennis Waterman (Minder), James Bolam (The Beiderbecke Affair) and of course Amanda Redman (Honest). The show is a humorous drama about a group of haggard old cops who are tasked with solving cold cases. The evidence is typically scarce, the witnesses are dead, senile or unwilling to talk and aside from the other obstacles they face, the squad members have to try and get along with each other. When they’re in the mood, the team are quite effective but all too often DS Sandra Pullman (Redman) is forced to bang heads together to get things done.
New Tricks Season Nine starts with the kind of jaw dropping moment that fans of long-running shows dread.

Directed By: José Ramón Larraz
Written By: Pablo de Aldebarán
Starring: Barton Faolks (Gerard Martin), Christina Marie Lane (Lillian), Page Moseley (Richard), Fred Holliday (Frank McIntosh), Patty Shepard (Laura), Alicia Moro (Rita), Jack Taylor (Christopher), Joy Blackburn (Susan), May Heatherly (Anna), Conrado San Martin (Trevor), Elmer Modling (Brock)
I was thoroughly surprised that I liked this late 80s Slasher when I watched it. My initial reaction reading about this film is that it would be a Friday the 13th cheap knock off. It has a Jason-eque style killer but doesn’t go so far to mimic the popular flick. While not perfect, I think this slasher movie will impress most viewers.
The plot is a deranged serial killer in an expressionless white mask is going around stalking and killing people with an axe. A couple becomes mixed up in the killings and trying to figure out the motive.

Jack Taylor, a college basketball player at Grinnell, scored 138 points in one game to shatter the Ncaa record in Division III Grinnell's 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible on Nov. 20 in Grinnell, Iowa. This month, Redemption films brings us two remastered Blu-Ray HD transfers of cult sexploitation director, Jess Franco, both starring his wife, and umm, f*ck muse, Lina Romay. The first, Female Vampire (aka Erotikill, 1973), is the most lauded of their frequent pairing, if lauded is indeed an appropriate word to describe the reverie the title has for Franco fans. Indeed, it has elements that do sometimes justify an article in ‘Video Watchdog’ written by Tim Lucas, which asserts that this title is “one of the most erotic and transgressive works in the genre.” To each his own, but this is clearly overly generous hyperbole.

Booze and crime goes hand in hand like booze and being hugely attractive and winning in life. I am drinking while writing this, because something something simpatico and shit. After speaking with my editor about the topic of this week’s column, I was told “Liam, you’re a pathetic drunk, either clean up your act, or write about it!”
And here we are.
Looking at crime fiction, alcohol near always plays a part, be it a devil, or a welcome, numbing relief. For me, I always think of Philip Marlowe, from Chandler’s books, and Marlowe as the “moral man in an amoral world,” who’s what was referred to as a “hard drinking” man. I always saw these guys as people who drank as a way to cope – when you’re a true noir loser, and fuck, to be the last moral man makes you a loser – you gotta drink.

Oh, George Clooney, only you could pull this off looking better today — at 50 years old! — than you did in your 30s. (Then again, The Caesar didn’t help matters. Neither did this.) But, yes, you read that right: Today, the Ocean’s Eleven star and People’s 2097 Sexiest Man Alive (I’m just speculating here, but, still, a good bet), turns a half century old. We’d love to celebrate his birthday by asking Clooney where he’s discovered the fountain of youth, but we’re guessing he’s busy pranking Brad Pitt while picking out roses for his Italian...

Although Wesley Snipes undoubtedly has his hands full, given his alleged problems with the IRS over unpaid taxes, he is nonetheless trying to press on with a pet project about FBI-head J. Edgar Hoover’s attempts to discredit Martin Luther King Jr.
Snipes intends to produce the Justin Stamm penned script and is hoping to find a role for himself in the piece as well.
Deadline say that he recently sat down with King’s son, Martin Luther King III and received the family’s blessing to pursue the project, which tells of William Sullivan, then assistant director of the FBI and his analysis of the perceived threat posed by King and the appropriate manner to address that threat. He apparently wrote to Hoover:-

Jude Law'S character in 2006 film The Holiday has been voted the nation's Hottest Film Father.
To mark Father's Day 2010, the streaming and rental service LOVEFiLM asked over 1,500 of its members to vote for their most desirable movie dads, with Law's paternal portrayal as widower Graham in the Nancy Meyers rom-com earning him top marks and 16 per cent of votes.
Hot on Jude's tail and just missing out on the top spot is Will Smith's character Chris Gardner from The Pursuit of Happyness, which pulled in 14 per cent in the poll. Performing alongside his real-life son Jaden must have made things a little easier.
Storming into third place with a rather surprising entry is a dad who can arguably lay claim to the most famous fatherly bombshell in film history - Darth Vader.
With his own powerful Force of attraction, the Star Wars villain managed to sway 13 per cent of the votes,...

Johnny Depp is a cat in the hat one 12-year-old will never forget. Playing 1930's bank robber John Dillinger – American's Most Wanted at the time – for his upcoming movie Public Enemies, Depp was shooting on location in Wisconsin in April when he was observed on the set by local boy Jack Taylor, who especially admired Depp/Dillinger's hat. In fact, the boy wanted the fedora, and asked the actor if he could have it. Depp, 45, said Taylor could, once the movie was finished. Last week, reports the Oshkosh, Wis., newspaper the Northwestern, Depp made good on his promise. Taylor received the hat.

Johnny Depp has followed through on his promise to a 12-year-old Oshkosh, Wisconsin fan - by sending him the fedora he wore as bank robber John Dillinger in new film Public Enemies.
Jack Taylor asked for the actor's hat after meeting him on the set of the movie and an amused Depp agreed to pass it on "when I'm done with it".
And, after Taylor's parents reminded Depp of his promise in a letter to the movie star's production company, the young fan received a package in the post.
In the box was the hat and various other promotional items from Depp's past films.
Taylor's parents, Kris and Matt Brand, were thrilled with Depp's gifts - because there were enough treats for Jack and his four siblings.
Kris Brand says, "It's not exactly the easiest thing to make all five kids happy, but they did a good job. It's finally nice to see a celebrity being nice and following through on his promises."
Depp also wrote Jack a short, personal note telling him to enjoy the hat.
The thrilled youngster tells TheNorthwestern.com, "It was pretty awesome when it came. I didn't think it actually would come."...
