- He was an NBC vice president, responsible for finding and recruiting talent for the network. He signed Dean Martin, James Garner and Michael Landon to contracts. When Jack Paar was preparing to leave The Tonight Show Starring Jack Paar (1957) in 1962, Tebet saw Johnny Carson on a daytime TV program and convinced him to take over as host of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962).
