Barbie director Greta Gerwig emerged from the elevator at the Château Marmont with producer David Heyman and her agent Jeremy Barber in tow.
Pleasantries and hugs were exchanged between them and May December filmmaker Todd Haynes and his longtime collaborators, the producers Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler. We were all waiting to go up to the hotel’s penthouse suite, with its sumptuous wraparound terrace, for W Magazine’s annual soiree to celebrate publication of its Best Performances edition, hosted by W’s editor in chief Sara Moonves and Lynn Hirschberg, who has a pretty much unerring eye for discovering talent.

“So, if Greta’s leaving, who’s left upstairs?” Haynes wondered aloud as he entered the lift.
Amanda Grandinetti, the Château’s managing director who’d squeezed in with us, assured us that the joint was popping upstairs.

Awards season kicks into overdrive on the first weekend of the year with the return of the Golden Globes. The 81st telecast has a new broadcast partner (CBS), a new host (Jo Koy), new catering (Nobu) and a new social calendar accompanying it. For years, the Golden Globes were followed by a crush of studio and network bashes inside the show’s headquarters at the Beverly Hilton, making it a favorite of countless party-hopping revelers. But pandemic era cutbacks and studio consolidation upended the festivities — gone is the Warner Bros. and InStyle soiree while HBO scaled back under new corporate parent Warner Bros. Discovery and will be hosting something on Emmy weekend — though all is not lost. This year’s parties are spread across the weekend and at various venues across the city.

The opening credits of Belvedere Vodka’s new campaign announce that Daniel Craig plays “himself” — and this is Craig like you’ve never seen him before.
After a very 007-opening that features a dapper Craig peering out from the iconic Pont Neuf bridge in Paris, Craig offers up a sly smirk before ducking into a waiting car while throngs of fans and photographers crowd the scene. Craig then slides out the other side of the car in an all-black ensemble as he struts down the street and into the lobby of the city’s Cheval Blanc Paris hotel.
Daniel Craig appears in a new global campaign for Belvedere shot by Juergen Teller.
Craig then busts a move through the lobby and onto the rooftop before eventually making his way into his room, where he reaches inside a Belvedere-stocked bar, all the while showing off his dancing skills.

You may have heard his name uttered by Kanye West or Migos in songs but Martin Margiela isn’t necessarily a household name when it comes to fashion — but it should be. One of the most elusive designers in the fashion industry, there are barely any photos of him on the internet, but his work speaks for itself. In the Oscilloscope documentary, Martin Margiela: In His Own Words, filmmaker Reiner Holzemer takes us behind the scenes of the career of the titular avant-garde.
With the docu, Margiela breaks his no-interview policy and aversion to being in the public eye as Holzemer puts the spotlight on the “Banksy of fashion”. He worked as Jean Paul Gaultier’s assistant and was the creative director at Hermès before he started his own fashion house. For the first time, Margiela reveals his drawings, notes, and personal items in this intimate profile of his vision...

Keith Urban has a hard time not taking wife Nicole Kidman's acting personally.
In a new interview withW magazine, Kidman says the country superstar can't help but feel her pain when it comes to some of her more emotional -- and sometimes disturbing -- performances. Kidman admits her husband was particularly bothered by her role in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, a sinister horror film in which she plays the wife of a surgeon (Colin Farrell) who has to make an unthinkable sacrifice when it comes to his family.

Oh hey, Kim Kardashian... No, dolls, your eyes aren't deceiving you: These newly released pics from System magazine show Kanye West's nearly naked wife back when she was a blonde and still trying* to get pregnant with baby No. 2! The sexy, slightly eclectic shoot was styled by Kanye and captured by photographer Juergen Teller. There's not a whole lot of context here—Kim doesn't have on anything but a nude bodysuit, thigh-high stockings and black boots. She's totally cool with getting down and dirty, too—and that grass/hay combo does not look comfy. Kanye makes in appearance in the pics—he's going in for a pretty passionate kiss on the cover of the System...

Never one to miss out on a photo shoot opportunity, Kim Kardashian stripped down to barely anything and posed up a storm for System magazine’s latest feature.
The whole thing was styled by the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” star’s husband Kanye West, who brought in famed lensman Juergen Teller to man the camera.
Speaking of Kanye’s sartorial prowess, he previously declared, “I would like to be influenced as much as possible. I don’t care if you can see the influence in something, as long as I made it better. I have millions of ideas and I represent a new generation just trying to express themselves in a broken world. I don’t call myself a designer as I was not allowed to go to Saint Martins because I was too famous by the time I realized I wanted to design. Fame is often looked down upon in the design world,...

Hmm, there's some very curious styling going on here! Kim Kardashian's latest photo spread, featured in a booklet by System magazine, has just hit the web, and it's a curious one—not least because her husband, Kanye West, styled her in a nude bodysuit (and little else!) for it. Cosmetics brand Nars is just the latest big fashion name to fall under the spell of Rampling's cool, elegant beauty
From Catherine Deneuve's elegant Louis Vuitton campaign to Jacky O'Shaughnessy's rather more revealing shots for American Apparel, there's no denying that the fashion industry is wising up to the power of older models. Today, cosmetics company Nars followed suit, hiring Charlotte Rampling, 68, as its latest face.
The actor will appear in pictures to coincide with the brand's 20th anniversary in September. Though Nars has a history of hiring models in their 40s, including Stella Tennant and the grey-haired supermodel Kristen McMenamy, Rampling is the oldest so far. She is also a style icon long adored by the fashion industry, having been shot by some of its edgiest photographers. In 1973, Rampling posed naked and smoking for Helmut Newton. In 2004, Juergen Teller shot her in crumpled bedsheets for a series of campaign shots for Marc Jacobs.

Never a fan of leaving much to the imagination, Miley Cyrus goes fully topless in a newly-released outtake photo from her Maxim magazine spread.
Last year, the “Party in the USA” songstress showed her derriere for photographer Brian Bowen Smith as part of the Hot 100 list.
And it turns out she also opted to throw open her jacket to expose her bare chest, including her lady curves and her “Just Breathe” tattoo.
Meanwhile, Miley hit a snag in posing for the Marc Jacobs Spring 2014 ad campaign, as Jacobs’ preferred photographer Juergen Teller refused to shoot her.
Jacobs explained to Wwd, “I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist. He just didn't want to shoot her.” Instead, Cyrus sat for David Sims.

Although her beautiful and fashion-forward photo shoot for Marc Jacobs was officially released, it looks like it was a bit more work to get Miley Cyrus photographed for the collection.
Juergen Teller, one of the brand's normal shutterbugs, refused to photograph the "We Can't Stop" singer for the designer’s upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 ad campaign.
Marc Jacobs simply stated that, "He just didn’t want to shoot her," in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, and reports state that David Sims later photographed Miley for the campaign.
Jacobs continued, saying, "I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist." Regardless of reasons for refusal to shoot Miley, she will still appear in the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2014 ad campaign!

JLaw continued, “And then, as I started to walk up the stairs and the fabric from my dress tucked under my feet, I realized my stylist had told me, ‘Kick, walk, kick, walk.’ You are supposed to kick the dress out while you walk, and I totally forgot...

Finally: There's a magazine cover on newsstands that we can actually relate to, and it comes straight from the fashion capital of the world.
Jalouse, a forward-thinking French style glossy, has put Léa Seydoux on its September cover, foregoing the standard glam hair and makeup in lieu of a more "real" look. Photographed by Juergen Teller, the French actress gazes into the camera barefaced and sporting decidedly disheveled hair. Call us crazy, but we love it. Sure, Léa's gorgeous and doesn't need much styling. But after the barrage of glitzy, over-the-top September covers (see here, here and here), it's beyond refreshing to see a magazine take such a staunch stance against all of the fuss.
Check out Jalouse's cover below and tell us: Do you want to see more of this on newsstands? Or do you prefer the usual razzle-dazzle?

The South Korean writer, director and producer behind the popular Vengeance trilogy, whose new movie, Stoker, is out next week, picks his cultural highlights
Park Chan-wook is a South Korean writer, director and producer. Born in Seoul, Chan-wook worked as a film critic before filmmaking. Best known here for his Vengeance trilogy – Sympathy for Mr Vengeance (2002), Oldboy (2003) and Lady Vengeance (2005) – Chan-wook is a master of dark, violent films. Oldboy won the Grand Prix at Cannes the year that Quentin Tarantino (a fan of Chan-wook) was head judge. The editor of British Vogue picks her cultural highlights of the moment, from Kathryn Bigelow to Juergen Teller
The editor of British Vogue since 1992, Alexandra Shulman originally pursued a career in the music industry before following in her parents' footsteps as a journalist, working for Tatler, the Sunday Telegraph and GQ. With Shulman at the helm, Vogue courted controversy by publishing photographs of a young, extremely slim Kate Moss, but Shulman also championed positive changes in the fashion industry by writing an open letter to designers in 2009 arguing for larger sample sizes. Her 2012 debut novel, Can We Still Be Friends, has just been published as a Penguin paperback.

I saw Kathryn Bigelow's film last week and thought it was a wonderful example of how to create suspense, even though everybody knows the outcome. It's very well edited, particularly the storming of the terrorists' compound.

Emma Stone dons nothing but a black bra and a completely off-the-shoulder leather jacket for the February cover of W Magazine, in what's easily the steamiest pic yet of the 24-year-old starlet.
Shot by famous photographer Juergen Teller -- famous for his iconic Marc Jacobs ads -- who worked closely with W's Editor at Large Lynn Hirschberg, Emma sports little to no makeup and brunette roots for the jarring cover. The Gangster Squad star is featured in the magazine's Best Performances issue, in which she talks about what movie makes her cry, how she has to try hard not to be funny and about her scene-stealing Oscars presentation last year with Ben Stiller.

Who's that girl? Glam-chic Emma Stone looks nearly unrecognizable on the cover of February's W magazine, stripped down and mussed up in an effort to make over the 24-year-old actress' good-girl image. In the cover image, the usually put-together Stone tries for a more disheveled look, clad in nothing but a black strapless bra and a black leather jacket pulled down around her arms. German-born Juergen Teller, who previously photographed both Dakota and Elle Fanning for semi-controversial ad campaigns for Marc Jacobs, shot the arresting cover. The bra-and-leather-jacket look [...]...

Helena Bonham Carter was hired for a Marc Jacobs campaign after she impressed the designer by wearing mismatched shoes on the red carpet.
The Alice in Wonderland star was mauled by fashion critics after she dared to step out at the 2011 Golden Globes wearing one red and one green high heel with a Vivienne Westwood gown.
But Jacobs was a fan of her kooky look and immediately booked her to appear in his Fall/Winter advertising campaign, which was shot by iconic fashion photographer Juergen Teller.
She tells Interview magazine, "I thought, 'F**k it.' I looked at the dress and I thought, 'It's not gonna be well received, so let's just distract...' (The Jacobs campaign) was a result of those two shoes. Marc said, 'Let her wear different shoes.'
"Juergen Teller is a great photographer. He's brilliant... You know what was great with Juergen? He's so fast. We just put some music on and just dance (sic). I've been photographed now (so) long that I sort of feel like I've done all of the expressions... I don't want to become hyper-aware of what looks good because it can be creative if you've got a great photographer. It's a relationship. It's very sexy. It's like having a dance with somebody."...

Helena Bonham Carter continuously finds herself on worst dressed lists thanks to her famously eccentric style, but in a new candid interview with her Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe for Interview magazine, she reveals some of the thought process that goes into her wacky wardrobe choices.
"All I'm into is dressing up. I love dressing up. It's like what we do for our job, get paid to dress up. So I carry on doing it in life, and I do put on a bit of clothing, and the clothing changes how I feel," she explains.
And surprisingly, she reveals that she isn't immune to the harsh criticism she's often subjected to.
"I think I transform into somebody else, and then you see the photo and go, 'That's so not what I meant ... ' It's the disappointment after. That's why I ceased to watch myself anymore because I go, 'It's still me!'"

The 2011 documentary film The Look focuses its eye on the brains and beauty of French actress Charlotte Rampling (Never Let Me Go).
Director Angelina Maccarone’s method finds Rampling engaging in candid conversations with many of her closest friends, including author Paul Auster and photographer Juergen Teller. Very much at ease with these old acquaintances, Rampling reveals her views on aging, beauty, desire and death with disarming frankness. Often these conversations veer into the questions raised by her films, like the taboo sexuality of The Night Porter (1974) and Max mon Amour (1986), or the tough moral choices of Sidney Lumet’s The Verdict (1982).
Featuring a number of clips from Rampling’s films (including Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories and Francois Ozon’s Swimming Pool), The Look played a limited run in a couple of U.S. theaters in November, 2011.

One of the most authentic and important artists of modern Britain opens at the Hayward, while Donatello's awe-inspiring power of illusion is unleashed at the V&A – all in your weekly roundup
Exhibition of the Week: Jeremy Deller
Art is alchemy. Who can say why one work of art lives and another dies? Why one artist can create images that take flight while another works assiduously at producing entropic stuff? Or why art that once seemed magical suddenly seems gross? Like I say – it's an alchemical process that defies logic.
The most alchemical British artist of my generation is Jeremy Deller. This curator of social happenings has none of the conventional attributes of an artist at all. He does nothing by the book – this is, for instance, the first proper gallery exhibition of his works. His most famous creations are events and performances that involved large numbers of people: a...

Years ago, Pedro Almodovar told his old friends the Missonis he wanted to make "something" with them. Voila: a weird something they made, a video ad of nearly 3 minutes of sexy music, Almodovar, and his old and new muses, the models Rossy de Palma and Bianca Suarez in "exuberantly ruffled" dresses from Missoni's spring/summer 2012 collection.
Director Marco Maccapani used still shots taken by fashion photog Juergen Teller to simulate a pop-up book, and was also inspired in name by Almodovar's "All About My Mother" ("Todo Sobre Mi Madre"), all in service of a collection that sounds like something an American exchange student in Spain would dream up ("a homage to the Spanish lifestyle with women and girls who love to party and dance into the night"). A trio of Missonis appear halfway through the video with identical brown side-parted hair. Meanwhile, when he does show up, Almodovar mostly...

After making his leading ladies look gorgeous in film after film, it looks like someone decided that director Pedro Almodovar should get the model treatment. Fasion house Missoni has put him alongside model Mariacarla Boscono, Spanish actresses Rossy de Palma and Blanca Suarez and more regulars from the label in a spread shot by famed photographer Juergen Teller. His appearance isn't quite so random, as he's apparently a longtime friend of the designer's family. "Pedro had told me for years that he was keen to make something with us," explained creative director Angela Missoni to the Telegraph. "So I asked him this time and he offered to model in the campaign…It is a homage to the Spanish lifestyle with women and girls who love to party and dance into the night. It has been a great experience for all of us." Anyway, the spread is accompanied by this pretty...
