Danish editor Molly Malene Stensgaard, best known for her decades-long collaboration with Lars von Trier, won’t be returning for the third season of his cult series “The Kingdom,” she confirmed at Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, where she also joined the Crystal Globe jury.
“It will be strange,” she admitted. Ghita Norby, Soren Pilmark and Peter Mygind will reprise their original roles.
“I did [‘The Kingdom’] less than a year after graduating from film school, where I learnt all sorts of rules. The first thing I heard from Lars was: ‘Forget them.’ It felt odd to stop this work relationship after almost 25 years. But it also felt right.”
After “The Kingdom,” which premiered in 1994 – with Jacob Thuesen and Pernille Bech Christensen also on editing duties – they went on to work on, among other films, “The Idiots,” “Dancer in the Dark” and “Melancholia,” with 2018 “The House That Jack Built” marking their final collaboration,...

Based in Denmark, Real Lava will aim to produce cinematic documentary films and series for international audiences. Kicking off Real Lava’s documentary slate is Alex Pritz’s “The Territory” which will be premiering at Sundance. “The Territory” follows the indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau community as they defend their land against a network of Brazilian farmers who are colonizing their protected territory.
A leading figure in the film industry, Dyekjaer has produced some 30 documentary features in the past 23 years. She most recently produced Feras Fayyad’s Oscar-nominated documentary “The Cave” which won Emmy and Peabody and Cinema Eye awards.
The Paris-headquartered Newen Studios has scaled up its international presence in recent years, investing in production companies in the U.K., Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada and Denmark. The group is already well established in the documentary field.

Jørgen Leth hates being called “a multimedia artist,” but the fact is that “filmmaker” doesn’t really do him justice either. Now 82, the Danish polymath has a number of strings to his bow, including poetry, journalism and a passion for sports and cycling that means he truly believes is most famous in his homeland for being a TV Tour De France commentator.
Leth arrived at Idfa in Amsterdam for two reasons: the first was to collect the festival’s prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to celebrate 56 years of making films that defy categorization. But Leth was not just resting on his laurels: he also came to compete, with his latest film “I Walk.” Assembled from journals and random footage snatched on his iPhone, the film documents the fallout from a serious earthquake that destroyed his house and whole swathes of Haiti, Leth’s adopted homeland, in 2010.

★★★★☆ Sofie Gråbøl makes a welcome return to the small screen with the UK DVD release of Accused (Anklaget, 2005), a dark, psychological drama co-starring fellow The Killing alumni Søren Malling, Troels Lyby and directed by Jacob Thuesen. The film centres around an accusation of abuse within a family unit. Henrik (Troels Lyby) is a swimming instructor, employed in a position of trust within the community. He dotes on his beloved spouse Nina (Sofie Gråbøl) and the two have a seemingly perfect relationship. However, their 14-year-old daughter Stine (Kirstine Rosenkrands Mikkelsen) is becoming an increasing cause for concern.
It's soon recommended that Stine visit the school counsellor for assistance with her social issues, but during one counselling session she accuses her father of a horrific crime that threatens to tear the family to pieces. Stine is removed from the family home and her father is arrested and taken into custody. Due to...
