- Was a squadron leader in the RAF during World War II. After the war, worked variously as a fruit picker, cattle breeder and manager at London Airport.
- Had a habit of cracking up on the set of the Benny Hill Show, beginning with a giggle which would then become fits of laughter infecting the rest of the crew. He was also prone to drunkenness, but seemed to be one of those people who could work quite well, even when under the influence. However, one one occasion he went on a bender for five days, having left a performance at the London Palladium, and waking up in a Dublin hospital. Hill consequently dropped him from the show for several seasons.
- Christopher Lee, having worked with him in 'Scars of Dracula' described him as ' The funniest man he had ever worked with.'.
- Merseyside band Half Man Half Biscuit immortalised him in the song "99% of Gargoyls Look Like Bob Todd" in the 1980s.
- Stooge for Marty Feldman, Spike Milligan and Jim Davidson.
- Tall, bald comic character actor of lugubrious countenance, at first trained to become a dentist. A genuine eccentric, often the stooge for comics like Benny Hill and Eric Sykes, but invariably a scene stealer. At his best as the priest in 'Rhubarb, Rhubarb'.
- Worked as a cattle breeder before turning to Comedy.
- Broke into acting opposite Sid James in 'Citizen James'.
- Died six months after Benny Hill, with whom he had frequently worked.
