The twisted universe of Miranda Sings just got a little more twisted. Colleen Evans, the YouTube mastermind behind the delusional chanteuse, just unveiled two of Miranda’s much-talked-about-but-never-before-seen family members, who are set to costar in the forthcoming scripted Netflix series Haters Back Off.
In a video on her personal channel, Evans shared that Miranda’s mother, Bethany, would be played by The Office’s Angela Kinsey. Miranda’s uncle, Jim, with whom she has an oddly-charged relationship, will be played by The Grinder’s Steve Little.
“They have been in my head for eight years,” Evans said of the characters. “You guys have been wanting to see Miranda’s mom and uncle in videos for years -- you’ve been begging for it -- and I’ve been saving them for this Netflix original series.” Following the announcement, Kinsey joined Evans for a classic YouTube collaboration in which they...

Among the plethora of ads that will arrive online ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, we can expect some collaborations between brands and social media stars. One of the series that falls into that category is Digiorno’s Make the Right Call campaign, which pairs digital personalities Colleen Evans, DeStorm and Ray William Johnson with NFL star Clay Matthews.
Each of the three participating online video stars appears in his or her own commercial within the Make the Right Call campaign. In each video, the featured creator manages to annoy Matthews with a bit of irksome behavior. We then fast-forward to the “right call,” in which Matthews gets his way and Digiorno pizza ascends to a starring role. A longer, 30-second spot features all three creators alongside the Green Bay Packers linebacker.
Make the Right Call certainly won’t be the best bit of branded content we see over the next month,...

We could all use a little guidance--and Miranda Sings is happy to provide us with all the “Selp Helf” we need. Miranda’s comedy special, first announced last month, has now premiered on Vimeo On Demand.
Selp Helf, which runs for 74 minutes and was filmed earlier this year at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, features the comedic stylings of Miranda, who is the alter ego of Colleen Evans. The special shares its name with a book authored by Evans and published by Gallery Books early in 2015. When it became available for pre-order, the Selp Helf book became a quick bestseller. Given Miranda’s popularity and the success Vimeo has seen with other projects led by YouTube stars, the Selp Helf special is likely to emerge as a top seller in its own right.

YouTube’s most talented performer (at least as far as she is concerned) is getting her own on-demand special. Miranda Sings, the alter ego of entertainer Colleen Evans, will star in Miranda Sings: Selp Helf, which will arrive on Vimeo On Demand on December 14th.
Selp Helf will translate Miranda’s successful live shows into a digital format. Over the past few years, Evans has toured the world, putting on shows in character and drawing huge crowds wherever she goes. Many of her other fans, however, have been unable to unable to attend any of Miranda’s live shows, and for that group, Evans hopes the Vimeo special will be a worthwhile consolation. "After touring the world for years, there are still millions of Mirfandas that have yet to see the live show but are eager to watch it," she said, referring to the name Miranda’s fans have applied to themselves.

When it comes to actresses, the movie business has always had an eye for beautiful faces. Unfortunately, it has often only been an afterthought as to whether or not that beautiful face could do anything other than be beautiful. Leaf through the archives of any of the movie glamour magazines from long ago and you’ll find them a cemetery of beautiful faces primped and hyped by the Hollywood PR machine to be The Next Great Thing. Some never made it past a screen test, while others managed to survive a few screen roles, but through lack of talent, charisma, the right roles — whatever mysterious magic it is that causes a performer to click with an audience — soon disappeared, never to be heard of again. It’s a long, looong casualty list of forgotten pretties like Merrilyn Grix, Eleanor Counts, Kathy Marlowe, Myrna Dell, Sandra Giles, Jean Colleran, Sunnie O’Dea,...
