Far back in the mists of time (well, the mid-Noughties), the BBC approached Russell T. Davies with an idea: a Doctor Who spin-off about the adventures of a young Doctor on Gallifrey. In a moment that Whovians owe him hugely for, Davies promptly vetoed this and suggested The Sarah Jane Adventures instead, later commenting that:
“Somehow, the idea of a fourteen-year-old Doctor, on Gallifrey inventing sonic screwdrivers, takes away from the mystery and intrigue of who he is and where he came from”.
Even though the BBC has so far had the wisdom to not try to revive the young Doctor concept, the idea has never quite gone away with an attempt at a fanmade prequel titled A Wild Endeavour featuring Yee Jee Tso (Chang Lee in the 1996 film) having been in the works for some time. But no matter where it comes from and who’s involved, a...

Welcome to my Big Finish mega-review for the month of July! I’m also including one June release, since I wasn’t able to listen to it until just this month. Enjoy!
Companion Chronicles 8.01 – “Mastermind”
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
The Vault – an archive of alien artefacts securely stored deep beneath the Angel of the North.
There’s also a prisoner in the Vault. An extraterrestrial known as the Master. He has been on Earth for some time, but now he’s under lock and key.
This is his story.
Or, as Captain Ruth Matheson and Warrant Officer Charlie Sato discover… perhaps it is theirs.
Starring: Geoffrey Beevers (The Master), Daphne Ashbrook (Ruth Matheson), Yee Jee Tso (Charlie Sato)
This is easily the best audio this month, and one of the best Companion Chronicles stories period. The story itself revisits the Unit vault, previously seen a few chronicles ago, and brings...

This is a big weekend for Whovians in the U.S with the Gallifrey One convention (#gally) taking place in La.
In it’s 23rd year this convention is pretty much as official as it gets ‘across the pond’ (no Pond intended) and has seen a huge swell of interest thanks to the intense promotional work and focus on American Who fandom since we first saw The Impossible Astronaut in 2011.
While not an “official” convention like the one to be held in Cardiff in late March, this one is crammed with guests that will interest both classic and current series fans (thought not Matt Smith and Karen Gillan as they are the primary focus of the official convention). Firstly, the day is being billed as a 1996 TV movie reunion with 8th Doctor Paul McGann reunited with Daphne Ashbrook, Yee Jee Tso, Eric Roberts and producer Philip Segal.
I wear a Fez now.

50/50 walks that fine line between drama and comedy and makes you question if it is ok to laugh about a guy dying from cancer. The film deserved more love from this year.s Oscars and features an incredible performance from its star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. This is a film that deserved multiple Oscar nominations, thanks to the superb screenplay by Will Reiser (Bridesmaids gets a nomination for best screenplay but not this film? Get real Hollywood) and the bare-bones direction of Jonathan Levine. Along with an award-worthy performance from Gordon-Levitt, the film features Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Huston, Serge Houde, Andrew Airlie, Matt Frewer, Philip Baker Hall, Donna Yamamoto, Sugar Lyn Beard, Yee Jee Tso, Sarah...

The 1990s were Doctor Who's very own Decadus Horriblus (thanks to the Basil Brush Book of Latin for this). Up until 1990, Doctor Who had carved itself a niche in the BBC schedules, usually to worldwide applause, high ratings and positive critical feedback.
And then it all went horribly wrong.
By the mid-1980s, Doctor Who was starting to get out of its depth as a result of a misunderstood Doctor, over-complicated plots and a dash of violence. Cue an extended holiday; but on its return, its reputation was still in tatters. Despite a bold attempt to re-invent itself as a confident, clever show of mystery, the BBC bosses weren't impressed. And so the axe fell, leaving the faithful mob of Doctor Who fans to wait and wonder.
But don't forget – TV programming had radically changed in the 1990s in a number of ways. For one thing, there was an...

With the producers of 'Saw' blurb plastered onto the new official one-sheet for upcoming revenge thriller 'The Tortured' the good news is that a slew of new images from the flick have arrived with it. Starring Bill Moseley, Erika Christensen (below) and Jesse Metcalfe the Robert Lieberman directed horror deals with an upper-middle-class couple's lives destroyed when their only child is kidnapped and killed. Obsessed with revenge, the couple seizes an opportunity to kidnap the killer (poor old Moseley). Chelah Horsdal, Aaron Pearl, Fulvio Cecere, Viv Leacock, Sheila Shah, Yee Jee Tso and Samantha Gutstadt round off the cast. The Twisted Pictures production is complete but is still waiting to officially give it a release date. It's been kicking about a lot of the more recent horror festivals so perhaps we'll get to see this one before Christmas? You can check out the new images and poster below. ...
