For the first time, NewsNation is going all-in on news programming.
The cable network that relaunched from the ashes of WGN America will finally ditch its predecessor’s re-runs of sitcoms and dramas when it introduces a new schedule consisting entirely of news and political affairs programming in June.

Three years after rebranding the channel formerly known as WGN America to NewsNation, the Nexstar-owned channel will officially be a 24/7 cable news outlet.
NewsNation says that with the addition of NewsNation Now with Adrienne Bankert on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the channel will officially be programming news 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
NewsNation had been programming reruns of the CBS series Blue Bloods during the 4-7 p.m. weekend hours. Bankert will now anchor the window.
“We are immensely proud to announce that NewsNation is now a 24/7 cable news network,” said Sean Compton, president of Nexstar’s networks division, in a statement. “This milestone marks the culmination of our efforts to continue expanding and growing the network since launching it in 2020. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem embarked this week on one of the more tumultuous book tours in recent memory, as she was peppered with questions about an anecdote about killing her dog Cricket, and another story about meeting North Korean leader Kim Jung Un. Major doubts were raised that the latter story was true.
As she sought to promote No Going Back, she was peppered with questions in interviews with mainstream outlets like Face the Nation and NewsNation, but some of the most contentious Q&a have been with those on the right, like Fox Business’ Stuart Varney and Newsmax. The book was an obvious was of getting attention as Donald Trump considers potential running mates, but Rob Finnerty of Newsmax went so far as to tell her, directly, “I don’t even think you’re on the list.”

Will Ronna McDaniel land another TV gig? There is already interest in the former Republican National Committee chair brewing from a couple of cable news outlets.
Sources at both Newsmax and NewsNation tell The Hollywood Reporter that they would be interested in pursuing a deal with McDaniel, should she ultimately finalize a separation agreement with NBC News.
McDaniel has been seeking a lawyer to negotiate an exit from NBC, which announced her hire as an NBC News contributor last Friday and reversed course just a few days later after facing backlash from MSNBC stars like Rachel Maddow and the Morning Joe team, not to mention an on-air rebuke from Chuck Todd on Meet the Press just minutes after McDaniel’s debut appearance.
McDaniel is likely to receive a hefty payout from NBC, given her two-year, $300,000 per year deal, though sometimes negotiations result in a lower payout in exchange for a shorter noncompete.

Media-wise, the 2024 presidential election crosses the official starting line with debate season, and this cycle the contenders on the Republican side, including a multiple-indicted former Potus, are looking to beat Democrat Joe Biden and take over the White House. But first they have to take on one another.
For the candidates, debates are a way to score points against a rival, stand out from the field or define a campaign that’s heretofore been rudderless.

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

The duo will premiere as hosts on January 22, succeeding Elizabeth Vargas, who briefly took on the role when Fox revived Amw in 2021, a decade after its cancellation in 2011. “It’s an incredible time for America’s Most Wanted to return to Fox, especially in partnership with my son Callahan, to continue my lifetime’s work,” said the elder Walsh in a statement. “I’m in constant awe over how instrumental our loyal viewers are in ensuring we get justice for victims and their loved ones, and today, they have entirely new tools at their disposal to help us fight back and quickly solve even more crimes.” Callahan, who was recently featured alongside his father on Investigation Discovery’s In Pursuit, works...

Viewership for the fourth Republican debate fell since the last event, drawing more than 4 million for Nexstar’s NewsNation and its simulcast on The CW.
But it was a record night for NewsNation, which drew 1.6 million viewers for its debate coverage, the largest audience in its history, according to Nielsen’s early fast national numbers. Another 2.5 million watched the simulcast on The CW, giving it its most watched program since 2018. In the 25-54 demo, NewsNation drew more than 350,000 viewers and The CW drew nearly 500,000.
That said, the debate audience was down from the last event in November, continuing a trend since the first GOP gathering. Some 7.51 million watched the Nov. 8 debate across NBC News and its streaming and digital platforms. That debate averaged 6.86 million viewers on NBC alone.
The first Republican debate in August, hosted by Fox News, drew 12.8 million viewers.

The audience for NewsNation’s Wednesday-night Republican primary debate was one of the smallest and the biggest.
Nearly 1.6 million tuned in to the Nexstar-backed upstart cable-news outlet to watch two former Republican governors (Chris Christie and Nikki Haley), one current one (Ron DeSantis) and one outlier (Vivek Ramaswammy) tangle for attention and donors in a debate moderated by Elizabeth Vargas, Megyn Kelly and Eliana Johnson, with more than 2.5 million choosing to watch a simulcast on the CW broadcast network, a corporate sibling. At about 4.1 million, the overall TV audience is the smallest secured so far for this cycle’s Republican debates, two of which were broadcast by Fox News Media and a third by NBCUniversal.
But for Nexstar, the numbers may as well be akin to the Super Bowl. The NewsNation primetime lineup typically lures tens of thousands, not hundreds.

CNN has unveiled plans to host two more Republican presidential primary debates in Iowa and New Hampshire in January.
The first debate on Jan. 10 in Des Moines, Iowa, will take place just before Iowa caucus-goers vote in the 2024 Republican presidential race. The second new debate will take place on Jan. 21 in Goffstown, New Hampshire, with that state being another early contest for GOP contenders and an opportunity for voters to hear the Republican candidates before they vote in their primary.
Neither of the planned CNN debates will be sanctioned by the Republican National Committee, which organized the four GOP debates so far this year. Candidates aiming to qualify for the Iowa GOP debate must receive at least 10 percent in three separate national or Iowa polls of Republican caucus-goers or primary voters, and be approved by CNN.
