Mário Soares, ex-President of Portugal, give Rui the Grã-Cruz da Ordem
do Infante, a very important Portugues distinction.
"Chico Fininho" and "Não há estrelas no Céu" are two of his most famous
songs.
In 1996 he got together with singers João Gil, Tim, Jorge Palma and
Vitorino and formed the group Rio Grande. They recorded two albums
(1996 and 1998).
In 1982 his first child, a daughter was born: Joana.
Rui and Paula are parents of a girl and a boy: Maria and Manuel.
He was born in Lisbon, but his family moved to Oporto when he was 3
months old.
He started to sing in a garage band called Magara Blue.
Started his career singing the blues.
He meet his ex-wife Paula (psychologist) in 1991.
He and Paula got divorced in 1997 but then they got back together in
1999. They split again in 2007.
