The amusing “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” capably makes the case that more animated kids’ movies should be based on classic comedies.
Formerly titled “Blazing Samurai,” “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank,” written by Ed Stone and Nate Hopper, directed by Rob Minkoff (“The Lion King”), Mark Koetsier, and Chris Bailey, borrows a title structure from the Bruce Lee movie “Fist of Fury” and riffs on the classic Mel Brooks Western comedy “Blazing Saddles” (Brooks also offers a delightful vocal performance).
It’s a breezy, funny, highly self-referential flick steeped in movie history.
Stone and Hopper swap the Old West setting for a Japanese village inhabited entirely by cats, and the intrepid Sheriff Bart played by Cleavon Little in “Blazing Saddles” for a dog named Hank (voiced by Michael Cera), who dreams of being a samurai. “Paws of Fury” stylistically inhabits the aesthetic of the Western and the classic martial arts movie,...

Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will return to its normal two-hour live format on TNT and TBS. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute. The 2021 segment saluted 55 people because they had responsibility for 14 months instead of 12.
Among that group will certainly be previous SAG president Ed Asner, who was also a life achievement award recipient. That honorary award was also presented to Sidney Poitier and Betty White, who both died this past year.

Although he had become quite famous and successful in the years before, there is certainly no doubt that the release of “Enter the Dragon” marks the greatest triumph in the career of Bruce Lee, as well as the greatest tragedy as it would be his final film before he died at the age of only 32. Nevertheless, even after all these years “Enter the Dragon” remains one of his most influential and most popular works , inspiring films such as the highly successful “John Wick”-franchise and many more. Despite it being relatively low budget, its aesthetics among other features make it feel like a big budget-production, which is also due to the narrative bearing some resemblance to popular James Bond-movies. It is also a feature telling a story about the encounter of East and West, and about the birth of a new kind of hero, which big budget Hollywood seems to have forgotten about.

If your only introduction to the work of Bruce Lee was a certain summer tentpole last year, The Criterion Collection is here to change that. This summer, they will be releasing a box set of five of his greatest kung-fu actioners, spread across seven beautiful discs with a plethora of special features.
Officially titled Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits, it includes the best of the martial arts legend’s 1970s work, including 4K digital restorations of The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, Game of Death, and The Way of the Dragon, along with a new 2K digital restoration of the rarely-seen 99-minute 1973 theatrical version of Enter the Dragon and the 102-minute “special-edition” version.
All in all, it’s the perfect tribute to the man who would’ve turned 80 this year, but sadly left us far too soon at 32. See the trailer, full list of special features, and cover art below.

When it comes to making features like this one, i love the idea of coming up with my own personal “100 Great Kung Fu Movies” of all time. It is tough choosing just 100 because you know there are many more great Kung Fu movies that are not on the list.
I understand everyone will have their own personal favorites and some may not agree with my list and that’s fine because it’s nice to have different opinions on this genre which keeps it fresh and alive when having good debates.
Anyway, thank you for taking time to have a look at my 100 Great Kung Fu movie list and feel free to add any movies in the comment box if they don’t make my list (I have probably forgotten many movies).

Golden Harvest started in 1970, after Raymond Chow had left Shaw Brothers studios along with producer Leonard Ho and decided to start there own company and go up against the dominance of Shaw Brothers.
Shaw Brothers had been the leading studio for many years, showcasing legendary Directors, Actors and Marital Artists. Raymond Chow and Leonard Ho knew they had to come with something big and make a huge noise in the world of cinema and indeed they did just that. They made a few movies in 1971 such as The Angry River, Lady Whirlwind and One Armed Boxer. But one Actor stood out over the rest, showcasing his incredible talent for the first time in a big movie and his name was Bruce Lee. When the Big Boss premiered in Hong Kong, the audience cheered and mobbed Bruce after the movie had ended.

Wesley Snipes knows how to fight ... he's a Very accomplished martial artist -- so what's his one main tip if you ever get in a scrap on the street??? Scream Bloody Murder!!!! Snipes was leaving Xi'an restaurant in Beverly Hills ... when he told us it's always better to yell like a maniac in a potentially violent situation (we're guessing the strategy is to scare the other guy away). In the realm of Martial Arts movies, Enter the Dragon is as classic a movie as Casablanca or Citizen Kane. I’m sure that will make some movie aficionados scream balderdash, but for genre fans such is the case. The movie captures the ideals and philosophy the late Bruce Lee developed in founding his unique Martial Art style, Jeet Kune Do. As Lee says in the movie, “You can call it the art of fighting without fighting.” Now celebrating its 40th Anniversary, Enter the Dragon remains a staple film in both the Action and Kung-Fu flick genres.
In Enter the Dragon, Lee agrees to go attend a Martial Arts tournament hosted by Han (Kien Shih), a former student of the Shaolin temple where Lee trained. When Han left the Shaolin temple, he used the teachings to start a worldwide syndicate of corruption. It actually sounds funny writing Han’s character description.

A bit of procrastination paid off for artist Justin Orr. After months of putting it off, he finished his amazing Enter The Dragon tribute piece just in time for this year's Anaheim Wondercon. Not only did he sell out of the prints he made, but he was able to give copies to and get autographs from the stars of the 1973 kung-fu classic, John Saxon (Roper), Jim Kelly (Williams), and Bob Wall (O’Hara).
As a kid I would spend my Saturday afternoons watching this movie after all the morning cartoon shows ended. Looking back at it, this is a pretty messed up movie for an 8-year-old to watch over and over again. What kung-fu movies did you rewatch again and again growing up?...

With the new documentary I Am Bruce Lee about to hit theaters, WhatCulture felt it was as good a time as any to recall Bruce Lee’s 10 Most Memorable On-Screen Moments:
10. Bruce vs James Garner’s Office (Marlowe)
One of Bruce’s celebrity students was screenwriter Sterling Silliphant. Silliphant, who won an Oscar for In the Heat of the Night, became good friends with Bruce and wrote a part for him in the 1969 film Marlowe.
Bruce plays a heavy sent to warn private investigator Phillip Marlowe (James Garner) off a case. Bruce does this by demolishing the guy’s office with a flurry of kicks and chops, and a flying kick that takes out an overhead light. This scene was Bruce’s first appearance in a feature-length Hollywood picture.

Here's an awesome new trailer for a upcoming documentary called I Am Bruce Lee. There's already a good amount of Bruce Lee documentaries that have been made over the years, but this one looks pretty badass. The movie was directed by Pete McCormack, and includes a ton of footage of Lee as well as several interviews with different celebrities including Mickey Rourke, Ed O'Neill, Manny Pacquiao, Gina Carano, and Kobe Bryant. I'm a huge fan of Bruce Lee, and I already watch the same old docs about him over and over again, so it will be great to see a new one. The movie will get a limited theatrical release on February 9th, 2012. Check out the trailer for the film below and tell us what you think!

To celebrate Lionsgate’s UK release of The Expendables on DVD and Blu-ray on December 13th, we here at Blogomatic3000 thought we’d take a look at our favourite team-ups in movie history…
13) Bubba Ho-Tep
Who else but Phantasm director Don Coscarelli could bring you a tale that sees an elderly Elvis team up with JFK to to battle an evil Egyptian mummy who has chosen their East Texas rest home as his hunting grounds. Based on the award-winning short story by Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-Tep is a movie that needs to be seen to be believed, and is possibly Bruce Campbell’s greatest performance.

Aside from trying to get a Martin Luther King biopic off the ground and keep his name in the hat for any further Blade films, Wesley Snipes is also finding time for a role in what is being described as a cross between Kung Fu Hustle and Meet The Parents. If you haven’t seen both of those films, let’s just say that they don’t seem like obvious companion pieces.
Master Daddy is also set to star a ridiculous roster of fighting stars in cameos and appearances, with Chuck Norris, Sonny Chiba (Kill Bill: Vol. 1), Joe Frazier, Samo Hung, Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak), Dan Inosanto, Simon Rhee, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage (The A-Team), Anderson Silva (Ufc) and Ron Van Cleef all on board.

Since no one saw Brooklyn's Finest, I'm declaring this news the official return of Wesley Snipes, and guess what? He's doing martial arts again. Snipes is set to start in Master Daddy, an action comedy he describes as Kung Fu Hustle meets Meet The Parents. Um, highly questionable, but when you check out this promised roster of cameos you might change your tune a little bit. Chuck Norris, Chiba, Frazier, Gracie, Hung, Inosanto, Jaa, Rhee, Kim, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage, Anderson Silva...

It had to happen – following the box-office success of The Expendables, Hollywood is looking to cash in on the ageing hero team-up movie with every action star worth a damn being touted as starring in the “next Expendables”…
Well not to be out done, former action star Wesley Snipes has signed on to star and produce a martial arts comedy called Master Daddy. So far, so meh. But… also touted as a member of the films cast is none other than arse-kicking legend turned internet meme Chuck Norris!!
Snipes tolds Variety that the film is a multi-racial action comedy and is Kung Fu Hustle meets Meet the Parents – an odd combination, but one that sounds remarkably similar to films like The Spy Next Door, Spy Kids, etc. I placing my bets on a plot that involves a family that don’t know their father is a kung-fu expert or some such “comedy” premise.

Wesley Snipes has signed to star in and produce the martial arts comedy "Master Daddy" for Maandi Media Entertainment and Tayrona Entertainment Group reports Variety.
In what could be seen as almost an 'Expendables of the martial arts circuit', dozens of martial arts and fighting arts stars will populate the cast including Chuck Norris, Sonny Chiba, Royce Gracie, Sammo Hung, Dan Inosanto, Phillip Rhee, Tony Jaa, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage, Anderson Silva and Ron Van Cleff. Musicians Rock Steady, Jabbawakkies and Quest Crew will also appear.
Filming kicks off this Fall for release next year. Dan Meachum and James Ordonez are also producing but no word on who'll pen the script or direct.

Even though Wesley Snipes is battling his tax problems he is staying busy. He has signed on to do a martial arts comedy called 'Master Daddy' and produce it through his Maandi Media Entertainment along with Tayrona Entertainment Group with Dan Meachum and James Ordonez also producing.
Master Daddy will have cameos by many of the martial arts fighting stars like Chuck Norris, Chiba, Gracie, Hung, Inosanto, Jaa, Rhee, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage, Anderson Silva and Ron Van Cleff.
Snipes had this to say about the film;
"This multi-racial action comedy is a mix of 'Kung Fu Hustle' and 'Meet the Parents,'"

We alerted you to this project back in August, and it looks like it’s a definite go.
Master Daddy, which Wesley Snipes described previously as “Kung Fu Hustle meets Meet the Parents” – essentially a martial arts comedy – has started shooting, with a cast that includes martial artists like Chuck Norris, Chiba, Frazier, Jaa, Rhee, Kim, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage, Anderson Silva, Ron Van Cleff, and several others.
No word on what the distribution plans for this are – whether theatrical, or straight to video. But it’ll be released next year.
No director has been mentioned.
Not sure what to make of this project; I guess I’ll see when it comes around.

Don't let the title fool you, this doesn't really sound that bad. Although he's been talking about the return of the Blade series and another J. Edgar Hoover film with other members of the press, Wesley Snipes is also lining up some other projects. Variety reports that Snipes will both star in & produce a martial arts comedy called Master Daddy. "This multi-racial action comedy is a mix of Kung Fu Hustle and Meet the Parents," Snipes said. That doesn't sound too good. Tayrona Entertainment is cofinancing with Snipes' Maandi Media Entertainment, with production beginning this fall for release sometime in 2011. But there's more - read on! Not only will Master Daddy star Snipes, but the film will feature cameos and performances from dozens of other martial arts and fighting arts stars including: Chuck Norris, Chiba, Frazier, Gracie, Hung, Inosanto, Jaa, Rhee, Kim, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage, Anderson Silva ...

Tax-Troubled Star Prepares Low Budget 'Expendables'-Type Comedy Wesley Snipes' recent legal troubles haven't slowed him down at all. The martial arts star has started shooting "Master Daddy" this fall. The film is being described by Mr. Snipes as a "multi-racial action comedy" and he's calling it a combination of "Kung Fu Hustle" and "Meet The Parents." Because those two things go together like Hi-c and turkey! Snipes has quite a cast lined up, including appearances by fighters and martial artists like Chuck Norris, Chiba, Frazier, Gracie, Hung, Inosanto, Jaa, Rhee, Kim, Lee Mosely, Bob Wall, Rampage, Anderson Silva and Ron…...

Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none There have been many books written about the charismatic ‘King of Kung Fu’ Bruce Lee since his untimely death in 1973. None, however, have captured his passion for filmmaking quite like Bruce Lee: Legends of the Dragon by Steve Kerridge. This three volume pictorial history of the making of his third Hong Kong action film, Way of the Dragon, follows ‘The little Dragon’ through true timeline from April to August 1972 in Italy and Hong Kong. Each book is lavishly illustrated with several rare and unseen photos that have come from the Bruce Lee Estate archive and the personal collection of Bruce’s friends and colleagues. Many of those who were involved in the film, such as Bruce’s business partner Raymond Chow, actor and American Karate Champion Chuck Norris, leading Lady Nora Miao and production manager Chaplin Chang, share their stories.
