Stop telling everyone you were duped by Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Who Is America?” show, celebrities and politicians. Your episode might not even air, Showtime programming president Gary Levine (indirectly) said on Monday.
Levine made the remark in a reporter scrum following Showtime’s broader executive session at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour. Here’s how that smaller-scale Q&A went:
Reporter: “When does the Sarah Palin episode air?”
Gary Levine: “All I can say about that is there are several people who have thrown themselves in front of buses that may not be heading their way.”
Reporter: “So some of those bits he shot with famous people might even not end up in the show?”
Levine: “Sacha is incredibly hard-working and selective in the final product and he’s always refining it and he has a very high bar. So we will see what we will see.

Showtime President and CEO David Nevins wants to stay in the Sacha Baron Cohen business.
The premium cable network boss told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday that he’s itching to do a Season 2 of Cohen’s “Who Is America?” — which premiered last month to 1 million viewers, after being secretly in the works at Showtime for over a year.
“I’m dying to bring it back, you know,” Nevins said. “There’ll be a process and I don’t know that I’ll be making an announcements, but, you know, he had me at hello.”

Since the announcement of Sacha Baron Cohen’s new Showtime series, “Who Is America?” several politicians including Sarah Palin and Joe Walsh publicly announced that they had been tricked into interviewing with the actor’s many aliases. They seem to be in good company, as many other public figures have been deceived by Baron Cohen into appearing in (sometimes unflattering but always uncomfortable) onscreen moments.

In the first episode of Sacha Baron Cohen‘s new Showtime series Who Is America?, he roped several U.S. politicians into endorsing a program focused on arming children – in some cases, pre-schoolers – with guns and other weapons. And as Politico reports, the show utilized false identities, mock websites and lavish flattery to earn their interview subjects’ trust.
One of Cohen’s victims was conservative radio host and former Illinois Republican congressman Joe Walsh, who in one sequence endorses “Kinderguardians,” a non-existent course designed to combat school shootings by arming children.

President Donald Trump’s refusal to endorse the U.S. government’s assessments that Russia interfered in the 2016 election at a joint press conference in Helsinki with Russian president Vladimir Putin drew harsh criticism from not just members of the intelligence community and congressional politicians from both sides of the aisle, but several distinguished news anchors. In a broadcast panel directly after presser, Cooper described it as “disgraceful.”
“You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader truly that I’ve ever seen,” Cooper said.
CNN’s chief White House corespondent Jim Acosta, who was in the room during the presser, echoed his sentiments, saying it was astonishing to see the president retreat back to previous talking points about Democratic National Committee computer servers and election opponent Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Sacha Baron Cohen is already generating some controversy with his upcoming Showtime interview series “Who Is America?” with conservative radio host and one-term congressman Joe Walsh saying Cohen tricked him into an interview.
Walsh took to Twitter to defend former Alaska governor Sarah Palin after she claimed she had been “duped” into an interview with Cohen where he disguised himself as a disabled veteran in a wheelchair, tweeting he had also been similarly duped.

New day, similar headline, different victim — we might have to get used to this. Life apparently hasn’t been good lately for Joe Walsh, the former Gop congressman-turned-radio host who has come out as the second pundit-pol in two days to say he was punked by Sacha Baron Cohen for the comic’s upcoming Showtime series.
The conservative talk-show host who used to represent Illinois’ 8th District is calling for a boycott of the premium cabler behind Who Is America? after Baron Cohen’s team convinced him to do an interview for a fake pro-Israel event. Walsh claims that he was told he’d been chosen to receive an award for “Significant Contributions to the State of Israel.” Seems that wasn’t the case — though he got a hotel-room freebie out of it:
@SachaBaronCohen's cronies said that Tony Blair, Rupert Murdoch, Bono and Steven Spielberg had also been honored – I flew to D.
