Opening in theaters January 27th, watch two clips from The Wicker Tree – “Prayer” (featuring Graham McTavish) and “May Queens” (featuring Brittania Nicol). This sequel is written and directed by Robin Hardy as a companion piece to his 1973 classic cult thriller The Wicker Man. A highly entertaining film too I might add, but do yourself a favor and bypass the inferior Nic Cage version from 2006.
Check out the film’s trailer below.
When two young missionaries (Brittania Nicol, Henry Garrett) head to Scotland, they are initially charmed by their engaging baron Sir Lachlan Morrison (Graham McTavish) and agree to become the local Queen of the May and Laddie for the annual Tressock town festival. But the couple is not prepared for the frightening consequences of their decision and the very disturbing secrets they are about to discover about Tressock’s seemingly friendly townspeople.

Back in August, Anchor Bay officially announced that they had acquired The Wicker Tree. Directed by Robin Hardy, The Wicker Tree is considered a spiritual sequel or companion piece to The Wicker Man, which Hardy directed in 1973.
The Wicker Tree will receive a limited theatrical release on January 27th and we expect a DVD/Blu-ray/VOD release to follow shortly after. A new poster has just been released and we’ve included it for you to check out.
The Wicker Tree tells the story of singer Beth (newcomer Brittania Nicol) and her cowboy friend Steve (Henry Garrett, “The Bill,” “Skins”), two virginal Texans who come to Scotland to spread the gospel. These two innocents don’t know what they’re getting into as they find themselves trying to spread their chastity message at the estate owned by Sir Lachlan Morrison (Graham McTavish, Rambo, the upcoming The Hobbit films), who has...

That’s right, my friends. You read that correctly. Anchor Bay recently snagged distribution rights to director Robin Hardy’s “The Wicker Tree”, an official follow-up to his 1973 classic “The Wicker Man”. The idea of a sequel is interesting, though I’m not entirely sure why anyone would want such a thing in the first place. If nothing else, at least it’s not a follow-up to the remake, a film that, despite its inherent awfulness, currently resides in my DVD collection. If you want to know why, take a look at the video embedded below. It’s a hoot. Beware: The clip contains spoilers. Here’s what you can expect from the sequel: “Wicker Tree,” produced by Peter Watson-Wood and Peter Snell’s U.K.-based company British Lion, is based on Hardy’s novel “Cowboys and Christ.” Pic follows two evangelists from Texas, played by Brittania Nicol and Henry Garrett,...
