A familiar face showed up in The Conners Wednesday (March 13) night when legacy cast member Natalie West returned to the show to reprise her role as Crystal Anderson. West featured on the fifth episode of the currently airing sixth season, marking her first appearance on the Roseanne spinoff since the popular sitcom’s inaugural 2018 run. She appeared in the episode “When Sisters Collide and The Return of the Grifters,” where it was revealed Dan (John Goodman) had been using money to pay for her medical bills. Long-time viewers will remember West from Roseanne, where she starred in a total of 59 episodes across the show’s ten seasons. She was made a series regular for Seasons 3 and 4 and recurred before and after. Her character, Crystal, was introduced as an old friend of Roseanne and Dan. She later married Dan’s father, Ed (Ned Beatty), and the pair had two children together,...

The Conners said goodbye to another Roseanne character, again off camera. Warning, spoilers follow for the Tuesday, Feb. 18 episode of the ABC sitcom. In "Brothers, Babies and Breakdowns," Dan (John Goodman) learned his father, Ed (Ned Beatty), had passed away. He read about it in the local paper's obituary page. The Roseanne revival earned terrific ratings for ABC in the 2017-18 television season. It stung them to cancel it in the wake of star Roseanne Barr's offensive Twitter behavior. Rather than let the whole Conner family (and that great big audience) go, the Alphabet Network has introduced The Conners TV show. Can the first season of this spin-off even come close to being the kind of Nielsen knockout the revival was, or has the audience already moved on? Will The Conners be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

It’s official — ABC has ordered a second season of Roseanne spinoff The Conners. The renewal comes after series’ producer Werner Entertainment secured new deals with the core cast of Roseanne veterans, John Goodman, who plays Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf (Jackie Harris), Sara Gilbert (Darlene Conner) and Lecy Goranson (Becky Conner-Healy). The size of the order has not been revealed by ABC but has been speculated to be 13 episodes, slightly bigger than last season’s 11.
While not the mega hit of the size of the Roseanne revival, The Conners has been a breakout for ABC. In its first season, the Roseanne followup averaged 9.5 million total viewers and a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating (Live+7) to rank as the season’s No. 1 new comedy in total viewers and 18-49 and ABC’s No. 1 comedy in both categories. While The Conners TV show has not been cancelled or renewed for season two, ABC has shown it has some faith in the Roseanne spinoff. The network has ordered an additional episode for the first season, bringing the total count to 11. The accidental sequel, which was only ordered after the network cancelled Roseanne in wake of Roseanne Barr's 'repugnant' social media posts, has done quite well in the ratings thus far, but it has a limited episode count, because of the principal cast's limited availability.

This week on Roseanne, Beverly makes Jackie’s life a living hell, while two of Rosie’s oldest friends return.
The episode begins in the Conner kitchen with Roseanne talking to Jackie about Bev’s sleepwalking. Bev enters soon after, and complains about sleeping on a lumpy bed upstairs. Dan suggests she go live with Jackie, but Jackie refuses because, well, she “hates her.” Roseanne argues that she has no space, what with Darlene and the kids already living under her roof. The two eventually agree to share “joint custody” of Bev.

Here’s the no-brainer of the week: ABC has finalized a renewal of its “Roseanne” revival for a second go-round — which, the network notes, will actually be its 11th season. ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey, who told IndieWire earlier in the week that such a move was likely forthcoming, announced the pickup on Friday.
“Roseanne” opened to huge numbers, which continue to grow. After just one day of Nielsen’s delayed viewing counted, Tuesday’s “Roseanne” premiere has now jumped to 21.9 million viewers, and its adults 18-49 rating is now at a 6.2. (It was a 5.2 rating after its live debut.) That number will continue to grow once Live+3 and Live+7 data come in.
ABC had already sealed deals with the show’s stars to return for another season — this time, for 13 episodes. And Roseanne Barr has previously expressed her desire to keep the show going in success.

Riving old TV series has become big business in Hollywood and it seems like one of the most anticipated revivals coming is Roseanne. I was never really into this show when I was growing up, but I know a lot of people loved the sitcom, including my parents who watched it all the time. Those people are sure to enjoy this revival.
The full cast of the original series is coming back, including John Goodman, who originally died at the end of the series. But, as you'll see in the trailer, they play it off like he never really died. I guess if the comic books can get away with cheating death all the time, Roseanne can do it too.
Featuring the complete original cast, new series regulars and notable returning guest stars, the revival will explore life, death and everything in between through the relatable, hilarious and brutally honest lens of the Conner household.

Nate And Margaret
Stars: Tyler Ross, Natalie West, Conor McCahill, Gaby Hoffmann, Charles Solomon Jr., Cliff Chamberlain, Danny Rhodes, Allison Latta | Written by Nathan Adloff, Justin D.M. Palmer | Directed by Nathan Adloff
I assumed upon hearing its title, that Nate and Margaret would be a quirky indie rom-com in which a young couple get together, break up and then get together again, having learnt some valuable life lessons along the way and exchanged some winning one liners, possibly co-starring a comedy dog. I was right on some counts but off the mark on others. Most unfortunately, there’s no comedy dog. Pleasingly though, Nate and Margaret managed to be far less predictable than that and was in fact an enjoyably offbeat tale of friendship.

Chicago – Sometimes the best way for comics to find an ideal vehicle for their abilities is to direct it themselves. 2012 offered ample proof of that, with Louis C.K. and Lena Dunham setting a stupendously high bar for TV comedy with their respective self-made programs. Of course, “Louis” and “Girls” benefit greatly from the contributions of their first-rate ensembles, yet both are also driven by a singular vision.
I can’t imagine a better person to direct the adaptation of Mike Birbiglia’s 2008 one-man stage show than Birbiglia himself. He’s already proven in a series of bit roles (most notably in Lynn Shelton’s “Your Sister’s Sister” and on Dunham’s “Girls”) that he’s a master of awkward humor as excruciatingly funny as it is painfully authentic. His nonchalant mannerisms and seemingly offhanded line delivery are so believable that it frankly hurts to watch his alter ego bomb onstage,...

Chicago – The wider range of films critics see during a single year, the less susceptible they are to the inevitable onslaught of expensive awards campaigns. Just because a studio can bark the loudest doesn’t mean its product has any bite. The majority of Oscar bait I’ve witnessed during the final months of 2012 have been wildly overrated behemoths weighed down in self-importance and executed with all the calculated precision of a undergrad aiming to score an A on the final. What’s lacking from many of these pictures is the spontaneity and imagination of true artistry, and that is precisely what the films on this list have in spades. From the most criminally overlooked blockbusters to the most invaluable indie gems available online, here are the Top Ten Most Overlooked Films of 2012.

Chicago – Nothing forms the basis of a friendship quite like a shared understanding. When the hearts and minds of two people are compatible. everything else falls into place. It doesn’t matter if one happens to be a 52-year-old woman and the other is a 19-year-old man. That’s one of the simple truths that “Nate & Margaret” illuminates without drawing too much attention to it.
The ages of Margaret (Natalie West) and Nate (Tyler Ross) are irrelevant. When they’re first seen browsing through a thrift store with a mixture of curiosity and amusement, their chemistry is immediately apparent. It’s clear that they provide each other with a sense of comfort and completeness that they haven’t found with anyone else. Yet as both friends reach pivotal transitional points in their lives, their tight-knit relationship threatens to stunt their growth. Only on their own can Nate and Margaret truly explore their identities as individuals.

Chicago – Few performers are lucky enough to make their big-screen debut in a hit movie, let alone two. In 1989, 7-year-old Gaby Hoffmann starred opposite John Candy and Macaulay Culkin in John Hughes’ “Uncle Buck,” as well as shared the screen with Kevin Costner and Burt Lancaster in Phil Alden Robinson’s Oscar-nominee “Field of Dreams.” Not a bad way to start a career.
Over the following years, Hoffmann has worked with acclaimed filmmakers such as Woody Allen (“Everyone Says I Love You”), Kenneth Lonergan (“You Can Count on Me”) and Todd Solondz (“Life During Wartime”). She’s also made a number of TV appearances, and recently starred on the third season premiere of Louis C.K.’s revered sitcom, “Louie.” Her latest film is the award-winning indie, “Nate & Margaret,” which marks the feature directorial debut of Chicago actor and filmmaker Nathan Adloff. Chicago – One of Nathan Adloff’s goals as a filmmaker is mastering the art of the awkward silence. That moment when audiences shift uneasily in their chairs, balancing on the razor’s edge between amusement and agony, appeals greatly to Adloff, a self-professed fan of Christopher Guest and Todd Solondz. His award-winning shorts “Untied Strangers” and “Irregular Fruit” are both squirm-inducing gems.
For his feature directorial debut, “Nate & Margaret,” the Chicago filmmaker made a couple notable departures from his usual work method, the results of which can be seen at the movie’s Chicago premiere June 8th at the Gene Siskel Film Center. Instead of relying heavily on improvisation, Adloff crafted a script with his close writing partner, Justin D.M. Palmer. And though his picture is chockfull of awkward silences—at brutal open mic nights and in tense restaurant altercations—it is also a surprisingly warm-hearted and endearing look at an unconventional friendship.

Director: Nathan Adloff Writers: Nathan Adloff, Justin D.M. Palmer Starring: Natalie West, Tyler Ross, Conor McCahill, Gaby Hoffmann, Charles Solomon Jr., Cliff Chamberlain, Danny Rhodes, Allison Latta, Sadieh Rifai, Shawn Ryan, John Ainsworth Margaret (Natalie West) is a 52-year-old amateur stand-up comedian. Her best friend is Nate (Tyler Ross), a 19-year-old film student. Because of their age difference, one might ask why Nate would choose Margaret as the person he hangs out with the most? Writer-director Nathan Adloff's answer to that question is simply that it does not matter. Of course Adloff is well aware that our society is confounded by spring-winter friendships -- which is sort of the whole point of Nate & Margaret, to show that age does not matter as much as people think. And, really, why does society stipulate that friends must be of the same generation?...
