Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes of your favorite television show? Olivia Williams, a guest star on the hit NBC sitcom Friends, recently opened up about her “harrowing” time on set.
Even though Friends’ last episode aired in 2004, the sitcom is still a popular choice for comfort and comedy in today’s world. Getting cast as a guest star, thus, must have been a huge thrill back in the nineties. It meant getting closer to the main stars and also becoming more widely recognized. Some actors, though, have been candid about their less-than-refined experiences.

Olivia Williams spilled some tea about her time on Friends, and her experience was not great.
The 55-year-old actress appeared in the finale episode of the beloved sitcom’s forth season, where Ross (David Schwimmer) marries Emily (Helen Baxendale).
She has previously hinted that being a guest star on the show was not all that good for her. However, in a new interview she provided some explicit details about what went wrong.

“Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Olivia told the Independent.
She continued, alleging that the actress was yelled at one set: “At one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.

Olivia Williams, the BAFTA-winning actress and recent SAG Awards nominee as an ensemble member for her performance as Camilla Parker Bowles on “The Crown,” has worked on the British stage in classic and new productions. But in a new interview, she points to a beloved American sitcom as an “alarming” and “harrowing” experience when compared to other gigs.
Williams appeared as a bridesmaid in the fourth season finale, in which Ross (David Schwimmer) married Emily (Helen Baxendale) in London. (You may recall some zany hijinks at some historic landmarks.) Speaking with The Independent, the actress recalled the “alarming” experience of sharing a car with an elderly actress Williams described as “distinguished” and “very good” who was later berated by a producer and told, “You’re not funny!” According to Williams, the unnamed performer was not on set the following day.
“‘Friends’ was a brand,” she continued, “and you had to fit the brand.

The Crown, The Sixth Sense and The Father actress Olivia Williams has opened up about the “harrowing” time she spent on the set of Friends back in 1998. Williams appeared as a bridesmaid in the two-part season 4 finale of the iconic series, “The One with Ross’ Wedding.”
Recently queried about previous remarks she’d made regarding her stint on the show, Williams told The Independent, “Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman.’” The actor, whose name Williams did not recall, was “distinguished” and “very good,” but at one point, “a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming.”
Williams also told the newspaper, “Friends was a brand, and you had to fit the brand.

Olivia Williams has given acclaimed performances in “Rushmore,” “The Sixth Sense” and “An Education.” She recently appeared as Camilla Parker Bowles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s popular drama series “The Crown.” But for many people, the British actor will always be Felicity from the Season 4 finale of “Friends.” Williams once called guest starring on the NBC sitcom “harrowing,” and she recently opened up to The Independent about the reasons why it wasn’t the best experience in a recent interview.
“Gosh. Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” Williams said, noting this actor was “distinguished” and “very good” but “at one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. Directed, produced, from a story by and starring Patel, Monkey Man follows an anonymous young man who unleashes a campaign of violence against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother, and continue to systematically victimise the poor and powerless.
Filmed in early 2021, Netflix originally bought worldwide rights to Monkey Man. After Jordan Peele boarded the title as producer through his Monkeypaw Productions, Universal acquired it from Netflix earlier this year. It debuted at SXSW last month.

"At least I'm trying to be a good person." "Rich people are unreasonable." Parkland Pictures has unveiled the official UK trailer for a dark comedy film called The Trouble with Jessica, arriving in UK cinemas this April. Though there's still no US date yet. Winner of the Jury Prize & Audience Award at Dinard Film Festival 2023. This reminds me of the original Death at a Funeral comedy, and it even also co-stars Alan Tudyk just like that one. Sarah and Tom are in deep financial trouble. Their situation takes a terrifying nosedive with the shocking behavior of uninvited dinner guest, Jessica. Just when they think they can sell their stylish London home to the right buyer, Jessica's rash decision leaves them in even more of a situation than before. The Trouble with Jessica ensemble cast features Shirley Henderson, Alan Tudyk, Rufus Sewell, Olivia Williams, Sylvester Groth, Anne Reid, and Indira Varma as the titular Jessica.

Henderson, Indira Varma, Rufus Sewell and Olivia Williams attend a Hampstead dinner party that takes a dark turn in a play-like sendup that could go harder
There are echoes of Carnage and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in this satire of north London liberals. It’s an original script but has the staginess of a filmed play, set almost entirely in one location: a big fancy house in Hampstead where two uber-successful couples in their 50s are chattering over dinner. I wasn’t totally convinced by the dialogue; some of the lines aren’t especially clever or witty given that this is a bunch of highly intelligent over-achievers. Not enough sparks were flying.
What the movie does have going for it is a terrific performance by Shirley Henderson as brittle, nervy Sarah, the owner of said fancy Hampstead house, along with her husband Tom (Alan Tudyk). He’s a...

What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. Luckily, production on the small-screen prequel /spin-off was concurrent with Dune: Part Two which means before the end of the year we are going to return to the fictional realms of Arrakis, Geidi Prime, and more via Max.
While not much in the way of footage has made its way online, there have been quite a few reveals about Dune Prophecy, so let’s jump in and discuss.
Denis Villeneuve is not directing any episodes
The original plan was for Villeneuve to helm the series in addition to his big screen directorial duties. The series, originally announced as Dune: The Sisterhood,...

The awards ceremony for the 74th Berlin International Film Festival kicks off Saturday night, where this year’s jury, headed by 12 Years a Slave and Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o, will hand out the coveted Gold and Silver Bears.
Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha’s Iranian drama My Favourite Cake is being given good odds for an award this year. The drama, about a 70-year-old widow and her tentative attempts at romance with an age-appropriate taxi driver, was a critical fave. A win for the film would also send a political message after the Iranian government banned the directors from attending Berlin. If the jury picks out Cake for the Golden Bear it would be the third time in 10 years —following Jafar Panahi’s Taxi (2015) and There Is No Evil (2020) from Mohammad Rasoulof —that Berlin has given its top honor to Iranian directors in absentia. When it comes to director Piero Messina’s Another End, it’s almost necessary to begin with its ending. But only to say that its denouement isn’t unlike that of M. Night Shyamalan’s Sixth Sense, for how it confers meaning retroactively to the plot and will, most likely, leave you dumbfounded. Revealing more would mean spoiling this science-fiction film, which is as guilty of overtly sentimental dialogue as it is meticulous about revealing the rules of its world little by little. The screenplay’s last-minute plot twist is so astonishing that it all but makes one forget the hackneyed elements that structure the film.
What the atmosphere of Another End tells us from the start is that the world has become a perpetual penumbra. Its inhabitants look disaffected, if not depressed. That’s certainly the case with Sal (Gael García Bernal), who enters his elderly neighbor’s apartment...

It’s ironic that memory is the central theme of Piero Messina’s Berlin Competition title “Another End,” when so many of its twists and turns are so directly lifted from other films that it feels like you’ve seen them before; even watching it for the first time feels like rewatching. But if that makes this elegiac literalization of the timeless theme of “what is grief but love persevering?” a rather edgeless experience it’s not a wholly unpleasant one. Less designed to provoke than to soothe, perhaps the very familiarity of much of the movie is a virtue, letting us enjoy its sleek surfaces safe in the knowledge that there’s nothing much lurking in the depths to alarm us.
Indeed, the story’s central alarming incident has happened some time before the film even begins: a car crash for which Sal (Gael García Bernal) believes he was...

What would you do if you could extend loved ones’ lives through their memories?
Another End, the latest film directed by Piero Messina and his writing team including Giacomo Bendotti, Valentina Gaddi and Sebastiano Melloni, boasts a cast led by Gael García Bernal, Renate Reinsve and Bérénice Bejo. It aspires to weave a complex narrative exploring the boundaries of human connection, the grieving process and the possibility of extending life through technological means. Yet, despite its ambitious premise, the film falls short of its potential, unraveling as a perplexing and ultimately unrewarding cinematic experience.
In a world where technology blurs the lines between life and death, Sal (Bernal) experiences a haunting blend of grief and hope. Gael Garcia Bernal grappled with questions of body and mind after death on Saturday at the Berlin Film Festival after starring in Another End, which is world premiering in Berlin.
Appearing in Italian director Piero Messina’s sci-fi drama, it turns out, changed the Mexican actor’s stance on death heralding the separation of the soul from the physical body. “Yes. “The Crown” is gearing up for its last hurrah at the SAG Awards, an organization that has bestowed a number of prizes onto the Netflix regal show over the years. It claimed the highly coveted TV drama ensemble prize twice (2019 and ’20), while individual winners through the years were Claire Foy (2016 and ’17), John Lithgow (2016) and Gillian Anderson (2020). Now the sixth and final season is hoping to prevail for a third time, which would tie it with “Downton Abbey” in this category at three total wins.
Season 6 faces off in the TV drama ensemble race against fellow nominees “The Gilded Age,” “The Last of Us,” “The Morning Show” and “Succession.” Elizabeth Debicki is “The Crown’s” only solo acting nominee this year, with her co-nominees in the TV drama actress category being Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Bella Ramsey (“The Last of Us”), Keri Russell (“The Diplomat”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).

For sure, it will be taking over where Outlander leaves off, even if it explores a story long before Jamie and Claire were figments of their parents' imagination.
Here’s what we know bout Blood of My Blood Season 1 so far.
What is Outlander?
It’s best to start with what we know, which is what came before. Outlander is based on a series of books by author Diana Gabaldon.
Outlander is a time-traveling love story between 20th-century (married) nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser and 18th-century Jamie Fraser.

This year’s SAG Awards nominations for drama ensemble run the gamut in terms of total cast members nominated. You have “The Gilded Age” on one side with a jaw-dropping 34 people represented. And then you have “The Last of Us” on the other side with just two — hi, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! HBO’s zombie apocalypse series has now tied the Screen Actors Guild record with “Key and Peele,” which was the first TV show to nab an ensemble citation with just two stars: Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.
The “Key and Peele” funny duo lost to “Orange Is the New Black” for comedy ensemble in 2016, which had a whopping 34 cast members nominated that year. Hmm, a two-person cast losing to a 34-person ensemble? Might SAG Awards history repeat itself? “The Last of Us” competes this year against “The Gilded Age” (34 cast members), “Succession” (18), “The Crown” (15) and “The Morning Show...

[This story contains spoilers from the final season of The Crown.]
With the release of the last six episodes of The Crown on Netflix have come new questions about the fictionalized depiction of the British royal family.
In part two of the sixth and final season of the critically acclaimed historical drama, the stage is set for the future heirs to the throne as Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams) are granted permission to wed, and Prince William (Ed McVey) and Kate Middleton (Meg Bellamy) rekindle their relationship after a brief break.
“Those couples coming together felt like a beautiful end to our story,” executive producer Suzanne Mackie told The Hollywood Reporter in a previous interview. “That, in a way, peace is restored to the land.”
In staying true to his original vision of ending the series in 2005, writer and creator Peter Morgan had to also find a way to conclude the Queen’s story...

For Imelda Staunton, filming Season 6 of “The Crown” was “very odd” after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
“My first day of filming back was the day after the funeral,” Staunton told TheWrap. “I think it was very difficult for other people looking at me. I got dressed, and I had to get my head around that. Then, for other people, I think they found it very odd. It was very odd. Of course it was.”
Because of filming schedules, Dominic West, who plays Charles, Prince of Wales, didn’t return to set until weeks after Queen Elizabeth II’s death on Sept. 8, 2022. Even though he wasn’t on set immediately after, he felt the impact of the Queen’s death on production.
“The fact we were making a show about this woman who had such a momentous life and that just died, I know that must have affected Imelda a lot.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Crown Season 6, Part 2, Episode 10, “Sleep, Dearie Sleep.”] The Crown came to a rather anticlimactic conclusion in its final Season 6 episodes with Queen Elizabeth II’s (Imelda Staunton) journey. In the finale episode, “Sleep, Dearie Sleep,” Queen Elizabeth II approves the engagement of her son Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Camilla (Olivia Williams) and faces the reality of preparing for her future funeral at the behest of Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce), who is finalizing his plans. This realization leads to a bout of self-reflection for the Queen, who is deciding if it’s best to step down and hand over the Crown or remain in her position. (Credit: Netflix) Helping sort out the choice are her inner voices, or rather, outward manifestations of herself in the form of Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, who step back into their portrayals of the monarch to guide her decision. While Elizabeth is really...

Peter Morgan may have brought the curtain down on The Crown decades before Prince William and Harry’s real-life feud, but it has not stopped him from imagining the early signs of discontent between the brothers.
The Crown’s final episode, now streaming on Netflix, foreshadows the cracks in their relationship as the two royals wrestle with adulthood and their royal duties.
The princes, played by Ed McVey (William) and Luther Ford (Harry), have a frosty exchange after being told by Imelda Staunton’s Queen Elizabeth II that their father Prince Charles (Dominic West) intends to marry Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams).

On Dec. 11, 1998, Touchstone Pictures unveiled Wes Anderson’s Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray starrer Rushmore in theaters, where it would go on to gross $17 million domestically. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
This sophomore feature from director Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket) is an unusually stylish and quirky comedy that represents a significant marketing challenge for Touchstone Pictures.
A bizarre romantic triangle among a precocious teen wunderkind, a millionaire industrialist and a young schoolteacher, Rushmore has far more imagination and wit than most major studio efforts, but it is occasionally undone by its preciousness. The presence of Bill Murray, delivering one of his sharpest comic performances in eons, should help significantly. The film screened at the recent New York Film Festival.
Jason Schwartzman, making an auspicious screen debut, plays Max Fischer, a bespectacled l0th-grader at the upscale, snotty Rushmore Academy. Max is not exactly an academic star, but...

Postmodern attempts at genre defiance have become de rigueur for pop artists today. In a streaming-dominated world where we can type away on our laptops to ambient hip-hop in the morning, sing along to old yacht-rock hits on our afternoon commute, and dance to Edm at night, what other way is there to keep our attention than to try to give us everything everywhere all at once? We’ve gotten a few attempts to do just that in 2023, from Kara Jackson’s quietly rebellious blending of folk and R&b, to Yves Tumor’s kitchen-sink instrumentation, to 100 gecs’s audacious and absurd hyperpop assaults.
Many of the artists who appear on this list, though, no longer seem content to just break down old barriers, as they also seek to shatter interpersonal and emotional ones as well. The oft-cited isolation of modern living, heavily exacerbated by the pandemic, has compelled some...

“The Crown” series finale premiere in London on Tuesday evening brought out the cast and creatives behind the hit Netflix show as well as a smattering of other familiar faces keen to catch a sneak peek of the last-ever episode.
Imelda Staunton, who plays the last iteration of Queen Elizabeth II in the fifth and sixth seasons of the series, led the red carpet. Despite the chaos around her — from reporters clamoring to ask questions to photographers shouting her name — the star told Variety her focus had always been on the character.
“I don’t look at maelstrom,” she said. “It doesn’t interest me. I just look at the script, look at the part, go to work.”
Newcomer Meg Bellamy, who joined the series as a college-age Kate Middleton for Season 6, was more emotional about getting the part, which also happened to be her first ever professional acting job.

The Crown is preparing to release its final six episodes, and on Tuesday Netflix teased nine photos from the Emmy-winning historical drama’s last hurrah.
The first look photos for the second half of season six — which will mark the end of the hit royal drama — show a grown-up Prince William and Prince Harry following the death of their mother Princess Diana (played by Elizabeth Debicki), and introduces Meg Bellamy as the highly anticipated Kate Middleton. One of the photos is of Kate’s famous see-through dress, which marks the moment she first caught William’s eye when he was in the audience at her 2002 University of St. Andrews charity fashion show.
The first half of the final season consisted of four episodes (which are now streaming) and focused on Diana’s final months, including her overlooked relationship with Dodi Fayed (played by Khalid Abdalla) and their last moments together...

Fact check: Will Princess Diana’s “ghost” make an appearance in Season 6 of “The Crown” as the U.K. tabloid have hysterically insisted?
The answer is… kind of.
Each season of “The Crown” has traditionally spanned a decade, but, as befitting the tragedy of Princess Diana’s death, time slows down in Episodes 1-4, which covers the weeks between Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed inviting Diana onto his yacht for the summer and her death alongside Al Fayed’s son Dodi on Aug. 31, 1997.
In Variety‘s Oct. 25 cover story about “The Crown” creator Peter Morgan, he said he would have preferred “not to revisit” the period after Diana’s death, having previously written the feature film “The Queen” about the impact of Diana’s demise on the royal family. “But there’s no way.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains light spoilers for “The Crown” Season 6, Part 1.]
When the ghost of Diana, Princess of Wales, first appears, she says, “Ta-da!”
Narratively speaking, her cheeky apparition arrives in response to Charles (Dominic West) talking to himself. He’s just left Paris after examining her body — a sight spared the viewer, who’s just witnessed Mohamed Al-Fayed (Salim Daw) weep over his son’s corpse — and, on the plane ride back to England, he’s awestruck by his ex-wife’s sway over the world, even in death. “Paris,” he says. “One of the busiest cities in the world, and you brought it to a standstill.” And then there she is. No longer silent and still on a surgical table, but sitting right across from the father of her children. “Ta-da!” she says, as if Charles, let alone any of “The Crown’s” viewers, are in the mood for a magic trick.
Peter Morgan’s Netflix series has long chosen dark,...

The end is in sight for “The Crown”, the impeccably classy drama that pushed Netflix into the upper echelons of prestige TV and launched a thousand royal think pieces. Hundreds of millions of dollars were spent to turn the enigma of the Windsor clan into the fanciest soap opera of the 2010s and ‘20s.
It certainly paid off for the streaming giant, proving they could compete with traditional TV and then some, but it was always a concept set on a timer. Eventually, they were going to catch up to the current era of the British royals. Now that King Charles is on the throne and Prince Harry’s in Montecito, showrunner Peter Morgan is pulling the plug before the turn of the new millennium. Even if basic chronology hadn’t gotten in the way, it’s for the best that things end before the growing sameness engulfs the entire narrative.
