When young musicians Ray (Ed Hayter) and Don (Aki Omoshaybi) are evicted from their South London squat, they decide to sell their precious vinyl collection and fly to Memphis in search of their destiny. Frustrated by the shortfall in funds, they steal an ‘uber-rare’ Black Metal record at a Camden record fair and head out of town to sell it. As they drive north in their beaten-up Volvo Amazon, picking up hitchhiker Susie (Elinor Crawley) en route, they find themselves stalked by dark forces apparently unleashed by the ‘devil disc’ they have stolen.

Well this years Frightfest is over and I’ve had a week to digest everything – it’s safe to say this year was… interesting. The move from the Empire to Vue West End, whilst not without the odd teething problem, was a success. Yes, the atmosphere had changed a little, at least in terms of experiencing a film with hundreds of people instead of thousands, but the positives of the move truly outweighed any negatives. My personal positive? The wide range of films on show this year and that fact there was No problems getting into the Discovery Screens this year – which in my own case, was where I saw some of the best films of the festival.
Speaking of films, whilst there was no outstanding, totally blown me away, movie this year, there overall standard was Very high, with only one real dud of the entire week (and I...

The international flavour of this year’s FILM4 FrightFest is underpinned by an historic moment, as the fifteenth installment of the festival features the first Venezuelan film to screen at the festival – Alejandro Hidalgo’s The House at the End of Time.

Both The House at the End of Time and Blood Moon possess a distinct sense of feeling, and serve as a testament to the importance of the creative voice even within the shadow of genre. But these are two films that paint a picture of horror in the Americas.

It’s safe to say horror westerns don’t have the best track record. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a good amount of decent examples out there such as Grim Prarie Tales, Ravenous, Dead Birds and The Burrowers. Given that, it was with a sense of trepidation that I approached Blood Moon…

Tagline: "When it's red, you're dead." Blood Moon is a film from director Jeremy Wooding and writer Alan Wightman. Wightman developed this feature from a short film, of the same name. Blood Moon is currently in Cannes; here, the film had its World Premiere. Now, a concept poster and several stills are available for this horror, western feature. All of the available promotional material for the film is hosted here. The story begins in Colorado. The year is 1887 and several stagecoach robbers find themselves hounded by a wild beast. Passengers of a nearby stagecoach must also deal with this murderous creature, which only comes out during the blood red moon (to feed)! The film stars George Blagden (After the Dark), Ian Whyte (Prometheus) and Anna Skellern. These actors can be seen in three early stills, which are shown below. The movie stills show characters stalked by a sharp taloned monster.
